More ground clearance for redevelopment in Tottenham Plenty of exciting news on the Tottenham front
this week. Unfortunately none of it about the football or the football club. On the up side that
means that Luka is still with us: on the down side that we haven't signed a new striker or sold any
of the many not entirely indispensable.

The headlines emanating from Bilbao have had little to do with Athletic's white-hot form, as the
rumors swirling around Fernando Llorente's future destination have blanketed this historic club.
Tottenham Hotspur has been the main culprit of the Llorente saga, originally offering €30
million, but after Athletic rejected the bid, they upped the ante to an astronomical €38.
But first.
Asier del Horno left Valencia today. And thank God. I was so surprised this morning at seeing
the news. The fact that he even still WAS at Valencia completely escaped my mind.
He had a year left on his contract but it was terminated early today, and for good reason. Del
Horno has had a poor 5 years at Valencia.

simbólico: el Athletic.
FC Barcelona increased the lead at the top of the table to five points with a 4-0 win at
Deportivo. Villa, Lionel Messi, Iniesta and Pedro all got into the score sheet on a very wet and
cold night. Real Madrid has teh chance to reduce the lead back to two when they face third placed
Villareal tommorrow night.

La Liga is more than just Barcelona and Real Madrid, and here is a review of the weekend action
not involving these two sides.
Villarreal and Espanyol both lost to teams in the bottom three with Pochettino's men slipping to
sixth behind a rampant Bilbao and Valencia moving to within a point of Villarreal.

2 Critical wins in 2 matches: 1 in the Champions League, 1 in La Liga: puts us right into
the thick of things and still be in contention for 3 titles this season. An amazing display of man
management by the coach, avoidance of interference by management... and above all CHARACTER by the
team.
FC Barcelona will be looking to officially win their first silverware of this season, when they
take on Real Madrid in the final of Copa del Rey tomorrow night. Ok, technically since we have
already won the Spanish super cup, this is going to be the second silverware and applying common
sense this would be actually our third, considering that we have almost sealed the La Liga trophy
with the draw at Bernebeu.

Unless Spurs can come up with a new striker in the next five days, the club is set to go in with
the quartet that struggled to find the net last season and with Rafael van der Vaart struggling
once again with injury, it looks as if the second half of the Bilbao match may have settled Harry's
mind as to what the formation will be.

Jonathan Woodgate's career has been utterly ruined by injury, which may be some kind of karma
for his involvement in the attack on an Asian student back in 2000. Still, despite his immense
talent, the 31-year-old central-half has struggled to stay fit for any decent length of time since
leaving Leeds United in 2003.
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid got pulses racing in Spain, thrashing Atlético Madrid and Rayo
Vallecano respectively on Saturday night.
David Villa produced a sharp finish to give Barcelona a ninth-minute lead and the game looked to
be up for Atlético just six minutes later when Thibaut Courtois saved Lionel Messi's shot, only
for the loose ball to cannon into the net off defender Miranda.

Athletic Bilbao is famous among football circles for being the only club in the world that
insists on signing only local players to their team. Athletic was formed in 1898 in Lamiako (now
part of the town/municipality of Leioa, about eight kilometers north of Bilbao), Bizkaia by British
industrial workers living in the area.

You gotta agree with us when we say that 'In the Air' photos of footballers
trying to score from headers or deflect a ball are brilliant! Fernando Llorente
looks like he's raving up there in mid-air, but maybe he was just trying to secure all 3 points for
Bilbao against Valencia in their 1-1 draw last night.
