One thing American soccer fans, especially MLS fans, obsess over is attendance statistics. In
the general public we are a minority "niche" sport, casual Americans don't care, steeped in
foreign-ness and all things immigrant. Never mind that high school participation has not seen a
decrease since it was first tracked and soccer is the number 5 sport in high school for boys and
girls (the girls are soon to take #4 away from softball).
Last week the Major League Soccer Players Union released its annual list of player salaries.
You can find the list here. For fans of the league, the salary list always makes for an interesting
read. Thanks to the good folks at bigsoccer, we know that the average salary is approximately
$160k while the mean is approximately half of that.
I'm starting a new thing that I'm going to try to do weekly to increase more conversation both
here and on Twitter. What I'll do is I'll take some of the best comments and post them in a
follow up post later in the week. I'd wanted to get this out yesterday, but today will have to
do.
This week, the topic of discussion is Sporting KC fans themselves.
