Due to the exigencies of actually having a life, I missed the first half of the DC United -
Heywood Jablowme (I think that was the name) match last night.
Interestingly, so did the entire city of Port of Spain, as that was quite literally the emptiest
stadium I have ever seen, at any level.
Is a bidding war starting for American striker Jozy Altidore? The UK's Daily Mail thinks
so.
If this pans out, it looks like Jozy's value has already jumped by $2 million since last
summer.
Special thanks to LFV reader Marc Sarchet for digging up this nugget.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly after young Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic.
COS's Anfield Correspondent considers the possiblity of a dream deal not coming to fruition.
Is a move for David Silva imminent? That is the question being asked by supporters of
both Liverpool and Manchester United on this website. The rumour mill seems to have been working
overtime on this one and we have even seen comments posted on the site claiming that a deal has
already been done with the Valencia player: with fans of both North West clubs believing he is as
good as theirs.
Rivals go head to head for talented youngster.

Emerging striker Stevan Jovetic has said he will resist the lure of Manchester United to
continue his education with Fiorentina.
Recent reports indicated that Sunderland and Portsmouth had agreed on a fee for the Peter Crouch,
and that the lanky forward had held talks with the prospective buyers to sort out a contract.
However, there has been no official news concerning the move, which could mean that Fulham have an
outside chance at securing the signature [.
Decisions, decisions?
MANCHESTER CITY and Bolton are battling it out to land Sporting Lisbon's Miguel
Veloso.
The Portuguese midfielder, 23, has an agreement with Sporting he can leave for a fee of around
£15million and has his heart set on a move to the Premier League.
It does seem to have been a cracking week for real and imaginary Arsenal news.
We've had the exit of two established, experienced players and yet, for the most part, Arsenal
fans all see the logic of both sales. Put bluntly, Wenger wanted to sell both Adebayor and Toure,
and has done so with bells on, making around £40m.
Aston Villa fans had been worried by the lack of the transfer activity at the
club this summer, having already stayed without Gareth Barry, but they will definitely be pleased
with the latest developments. Villa have won the race for one of the hottest
prospects in England, Fabian Delph, and the 19-year-old can prove
to be a real bargain for £6 million the club paid for him.
Fingers crossed for a bidding war!

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are monitoring Liverpool winger Albert Riera
after he was dropped for the Reds' opening weekend defeat at Spurs.
Aside from Babel having a cry that he's not getting any playing time and speculation that
Aquilani might be closer to being fit than we thought, there's not a whole lot happening during the
break. There is, however, a little news on the new kit sponsor. It's nothing new that Liverpool was
looking for a shirt sponsor to replace Carlsberg that will bring more of the proverbial fat
cash.
Here's an odd and utterly shocking (to me) bit of media trivia: according to media blogs the
highest ever fee paid for movie rights to the New York Times is for a story about youth soccer in
suburban Atlanta. After a fierce bidding war between Hollywood studios spurred by Warren St.
John's Times cover article on "Outcasts United" – a team of refugee youth in the small town of
Clarkston, Georgia called the Fugees – Universal ultimately paid $3 million to the Times, to
St.
Some may argue it was opening-day bravado but a bullish Sir Alex Ferguson insisted Manchester
United were well-placed to continue their dominance of English football despite the loss of
Cristiano Ronaldo after a 1-0 win over newcomers Birmingham.
Seasoned match-going supporters fear United lack a creative game-breaker now that former
favorite Ronaldo has realized his dream of completing a world-record £80m transfer to Spain's
big-spending capital club Real Madrid.
Evening all, I have to say events over the last 24 hours have left me, for pretty much the first
time, to be rather sad at the way some sections of the Arsenal support are going about 'supporting'
the club.
There is one blog in particular that seems so devoted to ousting Arsene Wenger it does not even
mention supporting the club we love anymore, it should probably be named wengeraction.
Aston Villa boss will not Bankrupt the club.
As we sit a little less than 24 hours from the start of the Premier League season, the fighting
amongst the teams in the vaunted "Next Four" has reached the fever pitch. In a recent interview
with BBC, Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill stated that he refuses to allow his club to be forced
into a bidding war with the high spending ways of Mark Hughes Manchester City.
We heard yesterday that 26 year old Dutch centre forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar (of Real Madrid and
currently AC Milan fame) is going up for transfer come January, and, with a desire to play in
England, clubs entering the bidding war for the £12 million-rated striker will be Chelsea,
Liverpool and Birmingham, who have recently come into some money with the arrival of Carson Yeung
as their new owner.
Let the bidding war begin.

Failing that, the new new Henry would be Gabriel Agbonlahor, the £17m-rated Aston Villa
speed-merchant for whom Wenger may move in the summer if he manages to remain
consistent.
