*If, like me, you were unable to watch the Desert Diamond Cup opener Wednesday between the Galaxy
and Revolution on your iPad/smartphone because the MLS stream apparently doesn't support mobile
devices, check out the highlights below. Benny Feilhaber's smooth bicycle kick just 90 seconds in
got things started, while Edson

Whipping Stephen Warnock Ep.20 The O'Neill Appeal by Off The Post on Mixcloud Happy New Year one
and all! The Off The Post Podcast is the audio equivalent of a hangover on New Year's Day:
uncomfortable at times, occasionally vomit-inducing, but if you get your head down you can just
about push through it.
As if Lionel Messi needed any more evidence to prove that he is greatest player in the
world.
Messi captured the Ballon d'Or for the third consecutive year, beating out Cristiano Ronaldo and
Xavi to add yet another item to his trophy case. The 24-year-old Barcelona maestro received
47.
Considering the fact that much of the world is going to be focused this coming weekend on the
life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his accomplishments toward bringing about progress
in the area of civil rights, I believe it is quite fitting to spend at least some time dwelling on
the concept of dreams.
The Top 100 Goals of 2011
2012 is flourishing, but it's not too late to look back on the best goals from last year. Messi
is on the list. Ronaldo too. But you already knew that. Some brilliant golazos you might not have
seen are on here too.
Highly recommended hidden gems: Hernán Barcos' exquisite dribbling for
Liga de Quito (#94), Nikica Jelavic's bicycle kick for Rangers (#91), Julio Gómez with another
bicycle in the U-17 World Cup (#87), Pa Modou Kah coming out of nowhere with a thunderbolt of a
strike (#62), Gualberto Mojica's one-two to back of the net strike (#55), Lisandro López's
textbook bicycle kick for Arsenal de Sarandi (#21), and Cleiton Xavier's surreal touch for Metalist
Kharkiv (#10).
Though Ronaldinho hasn't been paid in months, a new deal has been reached to ensure he gets what
he's owed, he's still training with Flamengo and still focused on getting results for the club. And
as Flamengo head into the second leg of their Copa Libertadores tie trailing Real Potosi (who share
a ground with Nacional Potosi, of recent scorpion kick fame) 2-1, Ronaldinho was
uncharacteristically serious in training on Tuesday.
Benny Feilhaber scored an acrobatic, bicycle kick goal to open the scoring while Jeremiah White
secured the game-winner as the Revolution triumphed over the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 during the
first game of the Desert Diamond Cup on Wednesday night.
Feilhaber's stunning shot in the second minute gave the Revolution the early advantage while
John Lozano nodded New England's next goal in the 36th minute.

The last time the New England Revolution scored three goals in a winning effort came 10 months
ago in a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City.
Last night, the New England Revolution kicked off the preseason Desert Diamond Cup tournament in
style with a thrilling 3-2 win over reigning the reigning MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy.
Benny Feilhaber scored a stunning bicycle kick to open the floodgates, and goals from John Lozano
and Jeremiah White canceled out efforts from Edson Buddle and Mike Magee to mark the first time the
Revs have scored three goals in a winning effort against MLS competition since that fated match
against Sporting KC early last season.
Coach John Spencer did not have a lot of positives to say in the wake of his squad's 1-0 victory
over Oregon State University in a closed scrimmage at Jeld Wen Field Thursday night. Indeed, the
Timbers looked a little surprised at the physicality that OSU brought and have a ways to go before
they are ready for prime time.

Two matches, two defeats. It could have been a lot worse if it had not been for some neat
goalkeeping by Ryan Meara. The Red Bulls defense was all sixes and sevens as RSL pushed up field
and recorded goals from Fabian Espindola and Luis Gil.
Thierry Henry's bicycle kick was a highlight.
Tonight was a busy night of soccer. RSL hosting Chivas USA, the USMNT U23s taking on Canada, and my
hometown BYU Cougars hosting the University of Denver Pioneers in a preseason friendly. Pollyanna
and I went to the BYU game (it's hard to argue with a game a mile from your house), and I tried to
track the RSL game at RSLKickOff while Pollyanna manned the camera and I watched and took notes on
the game in front of us.
Why is this the goal of the season?
First, Peter Crouch references his ungainly presence on the pitch, tongue in cheek with his
robotic dance celebrations. At 6' 7'' he is better known for his aerial ability.
Second, the overwhelming technical quality of this goal. It was taken on the up as Crouch
controlled Pennant's return header, relied solely on spatial intuition for location of goal,
rotated trunk and foot in perfect unison to strike the ball on its way down, creating the perfect
trajectory to beat one of football's best goalkeepers, from an acute angle about 18 yards out from
goal.

This match had everything. Nine goals. Two red cards. Three penalties. Pepe Reina wasn't the
only goalie sent off as Julio Cesar suffered the same fate bringing down Rodrigo Palacio. And
Andrea Stramaccioni's debut win which rested on a very fine margin till the very last minute.
Newcastle's January signing Papiss Demba Cisse has been a revelation for the club, scoring nine
goals in his first eight matches. According to Opta Sports, his current rate of scoring a goal
every 66 minutes he plays is the best in Premier League history. But who is this man who cost
Newcastle a relatively meager £9 million?
TweetThe In The Stands Goal Of The Week award goes to Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri whose amazing
overhead come bicycle-kick helped his side beat Napoli 3-1. In an action packed weekend which
featured plenty of fabulous strikes and mazy runs; most notably Lecce's Luis Fernando Muriel
Fruto's superb second goal during his sides' 4-2 win [.
In a beautiful day in New England the Revolution lost for the second consecutive game, losing
2-1 to D.C. United. Once again the Revs got an early goal, but their Achilles heel of conceding
late, came back to haunt them again.
Revolution coach Jay Heeps gave Jose Moreno his first New England start and he showed his class
when he scored in the 6th minute.
D.C. United looked ready for a third draw in their last four games, but Chris Pontius changed
that when he scored his first goal since returning from the injury that sidelined him for the end
of last season.
Pontius gave United a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday,
curling a right-footed shot in the 82nd minute.
Week 6 of Major League Soccer action saw Sporting Kansas City assert their dominance over the

Ten Reasons why Football is better than Horse Racing - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Despite the allure of horse racing amongst spectators, punters and race-goers alike, nothing
beats a Saturday afternoon and a game of football. Horse racing is building in popularity and,
especially with the betting on bigger races, is becoming a main sport in British society.
He certainly won't be at Euro 2012, and no he doesn't play in the Premier League, but former Lyon
star Fred scored this nice overhead kick for Fluminese over the weekend that we just couldn't
ignore. The beautiful game. ... Continue reading →
The perfect last minute equaliser...
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! It was the 6th minute of extra time, Atletico de Rafaela was
leading by 2-1 and Boca Juniors had to score to continue leading the Clausura title race. After
missing a penalty early in the second half, the young Nicolás Blandi redeemed himself by scoring
the perfect bicycle kick in the perfect moment.

What an appropriate end to the season. As the Premier League explodes everywhere else, Liverpool
fumbled aimlessly and purposelessly before unnecessarily conceding late on. The longest nine months
in memory gave birth to this. Glimpses of potential, hints of rebuilding, few and far between
blessed high points, but mostly just frustration and disappointment.
Alan Gordon came through in the clutch to prevent the San Jose Earthquakes from losing for the
second straight week, and this time he did so in spectacular fashion.
A week after heading home a late equalizer against Chivas USA, Gordon repeated his late-game
heroics by scoring a sideways bicycle kick in the last minute of regulation to give the Earthquakes
a 1-1 draw versus the Columbus Crew at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Mexico beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 in a very wet Chicago friendly on Thursday night, with the
added-time winner coming from Chicharito. The Manchester United striker had a bit of help from
Bosnia's Stojan Vranjes.
With the score at 1-1 in injury time, Vranjes' misfortune began when his attempt to head the
ball out of Bosnia's box failed.
