No, it was not Maradona who said that, it was not Pele or Zidane too. It was not even Romario or
Hugo Sanchez. It was Hugo Rodallega from Colombia. "but the big difference is that he plays for
Barcelona and I play for Quindio".
Hugo comment today sounds not just arrogant or unrealistic, but funny too.
Jimmy Briand's bicycle kick for Lyon against Nancy yesterday in a 4-0 rout was
just as good as Wayne Rooney's last week what a strike.
The best team in the world, Barcelona played the most popular team in Mexico (Chivas de
Guadalajara) and filled Sun Life Stadium on a humid Wednesday night in Miami. Section 404 was
packed with Miami Ultras and other fans who were present to watch the beautiful game at it's best.
We all saw Chivas shock Barcelona with their wonderful play and goals.
Last week when Chivaz defeated Barcelona 4-1, Fabian got all the spotlights scoring two great goals
especially the one with the great bicycle kick.
What is amazing now, and welcome to the world of the new internet media, here is the goal with non
official cameras : )
and here is a one with even a better angle
one more camera :)
Then, here is another incredible (half) bicycle kick from one of the most under-rated Saudi players
ever, Khalid Mosad.
After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5
average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the Revs 3-1 loss to the
Columbus Crew.
Wayne Rooney showed us just what he really is capable of with this
awesome bicycle kick which gave United a 2-1 win over neighbours City. Lets hope
to see more of this before the end of the season from him.
After Wayne Rooney reminded us all that he used to be a fairly decent professional footballer
with his derby day belter against Manchester City last Saturday, the received (Sky Sports-infused)
wisdom seems to be that the decidedly off-colour striker's effort was, without need for second
thought, the greatest overhead kick ever scored by anyone, anywhere, ever.
Absolutely amazing goal out of Greece. A rabona plus a bicycle kick for the goal. Wow.
(h/t to Route36)
Diego Maradona and Carlos Valderrama stole the show during an indoor game between former stars from
Argentina and Colombia. Maradona was good for a goal and two assists. Valderrama, still holding his
great head of hair, provided the assist for the great bicycle kick of Aristazabal and scored as
well.
A much anticipated Manchester Derby has ended 2-1. United were the more creative in the first
half and were rewarded with 4 minutes to half-time when United winger Nani scored with a clinical
finish past City keeper Joe Hart.
The second-half began with a more evenly matched game and City were fortunate enough to grab an
equaliser midway into the second half when City sub Edin Dzeko's miscued shot deflected in off
David Silva with Silva not no to much about it, however City didn't care how it went in.
Yes...I was at the Manchester derby this past weekend.
What an amazing game, and Wayne Rooney's bicycle kick goal not only proved to be the game-winner,
but he scored the greatest goal I have ever seen live. My brother and I talked later that day about
watching Paul Ince score on a bicycle kick in the 1994 Charity Shield between United and Blackburn
at Old Wembley (look it up on You Tube), but this goal was greater - it was in a critically
important match in regards to the title race, and the timing of the goal made it epic!
The Philadelphia Union officially signed former MLS Most Valuable Player Carlos
Ruiz before departing for Greece. Ruiz arrives on a free transfer from Aris FC. He has
scored 82 goals over 155 games in his MLS career.
Ruiz gives Peter Nowak another offensive option to support Danny Mwanga and Sebastien Le
Toux.
For a fair few months now, a Manchester United striker has flirted with the prospect of being
brilliant again. A bicycle-kick here, a strike there, but he has yet to really grab the idea of
returning to glory by its skirt, and devouring it in the same way he would do with any
semi-respectable prostitute in the Manchester area (allegedly).
Bob Bradley gamble opting to sit down Landon Donovan and opening with Alejandro Bedoya and Sasha
Kljestan paid off handsomely. The midfield was a beehive of meaningful activity with the fresh legs
of both players making repeated inroads into the heart of the Jamaican defense.
Bedoya in particular made the right channel a right terror with his pace and movement.
UEFA U21 Championship 2011 Semi-Finals
Belarus 1:3 Spain
Czech Republic 0:1 Switzerland
Spain will play Switzerland in the European Under-21 final on Saturday after both semi-finals went
to extra-time in Denmark.
Belarus almost pulled off a shock by leading Spain in Viborg until the 89th minute through Andrei
Voronkov's bicycle kick, until Adrian Lopez equalised then added a second at the end of the first
period of extra-time.
Probably the prettiest goal of the weekend took place in Bundesliga on Saturday when Eren
Derdiyok scored the game winner for Leverkusen over Wolfsburg with the beautiful bicycle kick
depicted in the video below. The 23 year old Swiss national's goal proved to be the game winner,
giving Leverkusen a 2-1 lead in the middle of the second half.

The Rochester Lancers took their motto "Honoring our past, Building the future" to the extreme in
their home opener Saturday, bringing back original team members, unveiling their retro logo on the
field, and even dropping their first home game just as they did 44 years ago.
When rumors of Carlos Ruiz's imminent arrival in Philadelphia surfaced, PSP's Mike Servedio
wrote, "Ruiz is known as a mixed bag, a temperamental striker who has had some big seasons in
terms of goals in the MLS, but is just as well known for his flagrant diving. The Union could
definitely use an experienced goal-scoring striker, with only three out-and-out strikers on the
roster, but with Ruiz' reputation he might have to work to win over the Union faithful (myself
included).
Do you call Rooney's goal against Manchester City a bicycle kick or an overhead kick? I don't think
it really matters.
MANCHESTER, England - Wayne Rooney said it was the best goal he had ever scored, and Manchester
United Manager Alex Ferguson called it the greatest strike he had seen in 25 years at Old Trafford.
The opposing goalkeeper did not even budge. Rooney put a troubled season behind him Saturday as his
spectacular bicycle kick [.
Wayne Rooney settled another pulsating Manchester derby by scoring the Goal of the
Season as Manchester United overcame their city rivals at Old Trafford.
In what may come to be the picturesque moment in this season's absorbing title race, the United
striker seized on a cross by Nani and spectacularly delivered an acrobatic bicycle kick into the
roof of the City net to seal a 2-1 win for the league leaders.
Clint Dempsey almost added another game-winning goal to his Fulham highlight reel. Almost.
After drawing a stoppage-time penalty on Chelsea's new centerback David Luiz, Dempsey stepped to
the spot and had his shot saved by Peter Cech, which preserved a 0-0 draw.
Dempsey had a chance to score off the rebound, after getting himself into position to attempt a
bicycle kick, but his shot went well high and wide of the target.
Pssssht... so what! Wayne Rooney hits a bicycle kick to win the Manchester derby for United this
past weekend. I've seen at least a half dozen just as good as that. "Silly English-types with your
K-nnnn-igits! I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of
elderberrys!
You know that picture. It brings back painful memories. But take your anxiety medications or
sip some wine (not both), and get ready for another soccer-Spanish lesson.
Last time we opened up our Spanglish pocket-sized dictionary, we focused on a young hotshot
United striker by the name of Javier Hernandez.
Very rare. You see these every now and again, but even rarer to see one score a goal! For example
in the last FIFA World Cup, I saw only three bicycle kicks. Two of them connected for a kick, one
missed, none of them could be considered a shot on goal. Author: broadbandsports Tags: rare goal
sweet awesome football futbol bicycle kick Posted: 14 February 2011 Rating: 0.
This week, there are few goals, that are really difficult to pick a single best goal among
them.
There are 4 wonderful goals, let's start from Qatar:
Juninho, the former Lyon Brazilian star, scored an amazing free kick at the age 36 with his Qatari
team Al-Rayyan vs. Al-Gharafa
The second is from Argentina when Claudio Riano scored sensational goal for Talleres Cordoba
against Alumni.
Football became so rich in beautiful goals, that it is really difficult to pick top goals. I wonder
if it is because football advanced a lot or because now we have more coverage than in the old days?
I think it is a combination of both. This post covers wonderful goals from many corners around the
globe
I will start from an amazing Egyptian goal, worth be nominated one of best goals for this year.
One is from Tunisia, when Mohammad Nasri scored a very funny goal, with a creative bicycle kick in
the Tunisian league
The second is from a Saudi fan from Al-Wihda club (that is a very old team, very modest now from
Makkah), reached the Saudi cup final but lost 0-5 in the final.
It was a night of firsts. Edmonton's first home game. Toronto FC's first game in Edmonton. The
first time in 2011 that I listened to Gerry Dobson (he was ok).
As the night wore on you started to feel sorry for Edmonton. They played an attractive style of
football, have mainly Canadian players and did not seem to sag when they went down to ten men
midway through the first half.
After long absence, I am back now, with full basket of new stuff, with the new look of the blog.
Today, I will start with videos and goals only. I will cover the past two weeks.
I will start with Sendoa wonderful goal for Hercules vs. Mallorca in a 2-2 tie.
Another look back at 1981 courtesy of FireStingDoug:
After a huge win like the one against the Cosmos a letdown could have been expected for the
Sting but it never came. The next game in Minnesota at the old Metropolitan Stadium saw the Sting
route the Kicks 5-2.
Arno Steffenhagen returned to the lineup after missing the New York game to score two goals, one
on a bicycle kick.
PARIS, France — Lille claimed their first French league title since 1954 despite being held to a
2-2 draw at French Cup final victims Paris Saint-Germain in a heated encounter here on Saturday.
Victors over PSG in last weekend's cup showdown, Lille required just a point to complete the second
league and cup double in [.
Souleymane Coulibaly scored a hat-trick to take his tally to eight goals in the U17 World Cup so
far.Coulibaly scored his first goal to bring the Ivorians back into the game after they were down
by one goal within the first 8 minutes.Brazil went back into the lead in the14th minute.Coulibaly
equalised for the second time still in the first half - on 31 minutes.
I usually try not to fall into the trap of anointing teenage sensations as the "next big thing".
With that said, what Ivorian striker Souleymane Coulibaly has done in the U-17 World Cup has been
nothing short of astounding. Coulibaly has scored an incredible 8 goals in 3 games so far. He
started the tournament with 1 goal in a 2-1 loss to Australia.
It could not be any more beautiful, sensational or better with the way Mexico reached the final of
World Cup - U17. They were playing home and against a very big name like Germany. Mexico was down
2-1 when they scored the equalizer with a wonderful goal, direct from the corner kick in the 75th
minute.
The tournament's two most impressive teams, Brazil and Germany,
who had netted a total of 30 goals between them, will be playing for third
place after being knocked out of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the semi-finals.
Brazil were not at the races in Guadalajara, falling 3-0 to Uruguay, while the German juggernaut
came off the road at last in Torreon, losing 3-2 to hosts Mexico having led 2-1 on the
hour.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. The New England Revolution may have lost 4-1 to Manchester United, but it was
nevertheless a strong showing. In front of 51,523, the largest club friendly crowd in Gillette
Stadium history, the Revolution shutout United in the first half before conceding four second half
goals.
