The first round of 2011 Serie A action came with a couple of surprises.
First and foremost, Juventus.
The bianconeri lost 4-1 at home against Parma, and this is a big surprise not only
because Juve closed 2010 in good shape and with the will of doing something more in the upcoming
year, but also because it is a defeat that can mean more.
Alberto Aquilani's agent expects Juventus to sign the Liverpool midfielder on a permanent
basis.
The Italy international is currently on a season-long loan at the Serie A club and has been one of
the stand-out performers this season.
Juve have the option of turning Aquilani's spell into a long-term deal and the 26-year-old's
representative, Franco Zavaglia, reckons the Bianconeri will honour their agreement with the
Merseysiders.
After the sad news that Fabio Quagliarella will be out for the rest of the season, Juventus got
a replacement in record time. It's Luca Toni who will be replacing Quagliarella (out for 4-6 months
with a torn cruciate knee ligament), the World Cup winner leaving Genoa to sign a one and a half
year contract with the bianconeri.
Although Diego Forlan was looking to end his career at Atletico Madrid, Serie A club, Juventus,
is now showing a growing interest in signing the Uruguayan striker for the Spanish club. As the
Bianconeri desperately look for a striker to fill the role, the Italian club thinks that it's
Forlan that can take over Fabio Quagliarella's spot.
Gazzetta dello Sport A Wasted Ibra Zlatan Ibrahimovic's most spectacular career goals was not
enough for Milan, who were pegged back 1-1 at Lecce Good thing there is Del Piero After two losses
a shot in the arm for the Bianconeri still in emergency mode (2-1). A moment of magic from
Alexandro and Aquilani punish Bari.
The Guardian is reporting that last season's treble winners Inter Milan are set to
begin a bidding war over Spurs winger Gareth Bale by offering the North Londoners £40m for his
services.
In addition to paying the huge transfer sum, it is being reported that the Serie A giants will
triple his current wages to £120,000 as club president Massimo Moratti is a huge admirer of the
player.
