Two players supposedly very close to hanging up their boots in the summer helped put Italy's Old
Lady in a retirement home last night. Alessandro Nesta, the 33-year-old with the bad back, and
Ronaldinho, the two-time former World Player of the Year said to be now well past his best, were
simply inspirational in Milan's 3-0 win over Juventus that effectively ended the Bianconeri's
already slim chances of winning the Scudetto.
There has been widespread criticism of the Bianconeri board and its directors yet there are some
obvious aspects which have been overlooked by the reporters and fans alike. The Juve management has
actually erred in allowing Pavel Nedved to retire, in hiring Cirro Ferrara to lead the team and in
their choice of players brought in to Turin.
Most if not all of the Bianconeri fans are wondering how many more games does Coach Ciro Ferrara
have to lose before he is fired by the Juventus board. Without going into details or providing
analysis of some of the matches lost, the abysmal record speaks for itself as Juventus have lost
five out of their last games.
Chievo, since being promoted to Serie A in 2001, had never beaten Juventus in their history. In
fact, in 15 encounters vs. the Bianconeri, the Flying Donkeys had lost 12 times and drawn 3. Last
season in Torino the two sides provided an entertaining 3-3 draw, with Sergio Pellissier grabbing a
historic hat-trick.
Juventus will take on Roma in Turin in perhaps one of the round's biggest clashes and certainly
only second behind the much-anticipated Milan derby. The Bianconeri have been struggling and the
dismal run of results shows no sign of abating. Coach Ciro Ferrara has received much of the
criticism but as pointed out in a previous article (Please refer to How Long Before Ferrara Is
Shown The Door written on January 18 for more details) the former Bianconeri defender cannot
be blamed for all the problems in Turin despite his inexperience.
The Bavarian club achieved a great result after returning from the trip to Bremen with all three
points to climb to the top of the Bundesliga standings. Their tenure at the top could be short
lived as Bayer Leverkusen will take over the top position if they can win or just tie in their
match against TSG Hoffenheim.
Juventus suffered another defeat which perhaps came as no surprise despite the fact Roma were
rather not impressive until the penalty-kick which was converted by Francesco Totti. The Bianconeri
did not deserve to lose the match but the players have certainly been struggling despite putting in
a better effort against the Giallorossi.

He doesn't look mad does he?
Some decidedly spurious rumour-mongering here, so prepare yourself.
After Juventus suffered their third straight loss (2-1 at home to Roma) on Saturday, a
journalist or two allegedly overheard Juve 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon muttering
that he 'couldn't take it anymore' as he trudged off down the tunnel at The Stadio Olimpico.
On May 5th, 2002, most Inter fans were doing the same exact thing Ronaldo is doing in the
picture. Inter had thought that they had finally gotten it right. They would finally win their
first Scudetto since 1989. But it wasn't to be, and May 5th, 2002 is a day Inter fans do not like
to remember.
