Celtic triumphed over Rangers in this largely meaningless Old Firm derby at Parkhead. The win
cuts the gap to SPL champions Rangers to just eight points and hands a little pride back to the
Bhoys who have had a horrid season.
In a game that had little significance in terms of the SPL table there was still the usual blood
and thunder approach from both sides that resulted in a number of bookings and a late red card for
Lee McCulloch.
If there was ever a concrete proof needed in regards to the United States' ability to host a
World Cup in the near future, it was provided on Wednesday night in Boston's famous baseball
stadium known as Fenway Park. The venue, which is usually the home of baseball franchise Red Sox,
turned into an ice rink earlier this year, which meant that it was not all that difficult for it to
be turned into a football ground.
Converting two key penalties en route to Celtic's triumph in the Fenway Football Challenge may
not be enough to convince manager Neil Lennon about the utility of Greek striker Georgios Samaras.
In fact, a promising display including another penalty - in a 3-1 friendly defeat to Manchester
United in Toronto may not have done the trick either.
Scottish Premier League 2009/10 league runners-up and traditional powerhouse Celtic Football Club
has unveiled its Nike 2010/11 home kit. According to the Bhoys website: The launch of the new kit
by Celtic and Nike, the world's leading football brand, also marks the club's new shirt sponsorship
with Scotland's leading brewer Tennent's.
What a dashing young man
Reports in the papers today suggest that Celtic manager Tony Mowbray is lining up a loan move
for Stoke striker Dave Kitson, which would see the player move north of the border until the end of
the season.
The striker moved from Reading to Stoke in 2008 for a club record fee of £5.
My last post featured the ongoing transfer speculation between Middlesbrough and Scottish giants
Celtic.
The quartet of players that Gordon Strachan has been trying to get his mitts on were give a
thorough going over by numerous Hoops fans yesterday and have given us Boro fans an insight into
what we are to expect from the players.
The story of another South Korea star's adventures in Europe started last weekend as Ki Sung-yong
made a first appearance in the famous green-and-white hooped shirt of Celtic. The 20 year-old
played the full 90 minutes on Saturday as his new team drew 1-1 with Falkirk in the Scottish
Premier League. It was a disappointing performance from the Bhoys but a promising debut from Ki who
was impressed with his free-kick skills and was named Man of the Match.
With Neil Lennon taking charge of Celtic for the remainder of the season after Tony Mowbray
departed the Scottish giants last week it seems the first player he wants to see back at Celtic
Park is Stephen McManus.
The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Middlesbrough until the end of the season and with nine
appearances to his name already it seems that Gordon Strachan would be keen to make McManus a
permanent Boro player in the summer, but that will come under question if Neil Lennon is given the
reigns on a permanent basis during the summer.
Feeling the pressure
It was the straw that broke the camel's back. Any sort of reverse at the hands of St. Mirren
would have put Tony Mowbray under even more pressure to hold on to his job. The manner of Celtic's
4-0 hammering at St. Mirren Park made Mowbray's position untenable. Sky Sports News' Ed Chamberlain
was seen scrambling around his desk to find a statistic that further emphasised the humiliation
suffered.
Robbie Keane has been voted the Celtic fans' player of the year despite having been at the
club only two-and-a-half months.
The 29-year-old striker joined the Scottish giants on loan from Tottenham just hours before the
transfer window closed at the start of February amid huge fanfare at Parkhead.
The Bhoys did not win the SPL but they had the satisfaction of winning the best thing after
that. They beat Gers through Marc-Antoine Fortuné's header which went between goalkeeper Allan
McGregor's outspread legs in the 45th minute.
Just two minutes before Kenny Miller's header had restored parity for Rangers after Lee Naylor's
deflected free kick had given the home side an early lead.

Sol Campbell has travelled to Celtic's training ground to hold talks over a proposed
summer switch to the Scottish club.

On a morning from a Bogart movie. Here's the round-up...
Rumour No. 1: The groin strain that Fernando Torres suffered
in the World Cup final may keep him sidelined for up to two months, and will therefore jeopardise
any potential plans the Spanish striker had to leave Liverpool this summer.
If the rumors are right, Welsh striker Craig Bellamy could be set to leave Manchester City this
summer. The Citizens have a wealth of strikers on their books and could add even more before the
summer is done, and The Guardian is reporting that Bellamy is now available for
purchase.
Earlier in the summer Bellamy was linked with a move to Championship side Cardiff City.
Martin O'Neill had an extremely successful spell as manager of Celtic and clearly still holds the
club very close to his heart. At the moment, there is one player at the club he is particularly
fond of - Aiden McGeady.
The Aston Villa boss - who is preparing to sell James Milner this summer - has revealed his
admiration for the Celtic midfielder.
Veteran England international David James is set for talks with Celtic manager Neil Lennon over
a possible move to Parkhead. The Hoops recently lost the services of first-choice goalkeeper Artur
Boruc as the Pole chose to sign with Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Since Boruc left the club in a deal that occurred very suddenly, his compatriot Lukasz Zaluska
had to deputize in the goal during the Bhoys' North American tour.
Scunthorpe United player Michael O'Connor says that Scottish Premier League giants Celtic would
be delighted to see teammate Gary Hooper in a green and white uniform. O'Connor even went as far as
saying that Hooper is better than former Celtic player Scott McDonald, who many wish was still with
the Bhoys.
Not too long ago, Lukasz Zaluska spoke with excitement about the lightning fast turn-around in
his fortunes as a Celtic player. The former Dundee United goalkeeper, who had been deputizing for
his Polish compatriot Artur Boruc ever since his arrival in Glasgow, was suddenly handed the
starting role during the Bhoys' North American tour.
Less than 48 hours ago, we witnessed a Wednesday evening that saw Celtic emerge victorious at
Parkhead. Hosting Portuguese outfit Braga in the second leg of a UEFA Champions League qualifier,
the Hoops won 2-1 as new signings Gary Hooper and Efrain Juarez were both on target. Yet, the
supporters headed for the exit looking quite dejected.
Former Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy is settling in at Celtic after being joined by a host of
other new signings at the Parkhead this summer.
However, the 27-year old Ireland international will miss squaring off against English opposition
over the course of the regular season, which is why he is excited by Blackburn's pre-season visit
today.
Dutch defender Jos Hooiveld, who was chosen to unveil Celtic's new away kit yesterday, was
upbeat about the club's prospects throughout his conversation with the media present at Celtic
Park.
The Hoops were eliminated from the Champions League last week but still have the Europa League
as well as the domestic title to fight for.
After an eventful summer where a plethora of new signings at Celtic Park were followed by a
heart-breaking Champions League elimination, manager Neil Lennon is ready to move on to the
Scottish Premier League.
Lennon, who formerly represented the Bhoys as a player as well, has been criticized for not
building a competitive squad after a new-look Celtic side performed inconsistently over the course
of its North American tour last month.
The transfer rumors linking Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy with a move to Celtic have
gained new momentum following comments from Celtic boss Neil Lennon. Lennon has reiterated his
belief that Bellamy is one of the finest players in the Barclays Premier League, and he admits that
the Bhoys would be foolish to not weigh up a move for the Welsh star.
Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has insisted that the UEFA Champions League elimination to Braga
is truly a thing of the past as this Thursday's Europa League opener is keeping his side busy with
preparations.
FC Utrecht will be traveling to Celtic Park for the first leg of the qualifying fixture and
Brown has expressed his confidence in the Hoops to gain the upper hand before making the tricky
trip away to the Dutch Eredevisie outfit.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng has used
Twitter as the medium to criticize manager Neil Lennon for the way he has treated the
Korean ever since his arrival in Glasgow nine months ago.
The 21-year old Ki, who excelled for South Korea in this summer's World Cup, was expected to be
a part of Lennon's summer plans as he aimed to develop the new-look Bhoys into legitimate title
contenders.
Old Trafford plays host to the "Battle of Britain" between Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers
on Tuesday
When Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers walk out of the tunnel on to the Old Trafford turf
tomorrow night the two giants of British football will write another chapter into what UK-based
journalists always refer to as the "Battle of Britain".
Despite an unsettled summer at Celtic Park, Greek international Georgios Samaras has confirmed
that he remains committed to the Bhoys' cause.
The giant striker, who had an inconsistent spell at Manchester City before moving to Glasgow two
years ago, was described by manager Neil Lennon as an 'enigma' at the beginning of this season.
Just two buttered slices away...
It's barely been 24 hours since the whole "De Ro to Celtic" drama began in earnest, but
boy - doesn't it feel so much longer? I guess when you're a TFC supporter and the circus visits
town so often, these things just get old in a hurry. At last word, Earl Cochrane has yet to be able
to confirm if he denied his original denial confirmation or whether that denial had yet to be
confirmed.
