Watching the FA Cup 3rd round tie between Arsenal and Leeds United on Monday evening might not
have proved so entertaining if former Arsenal defender Martin Keown had not have been struck by a
ball hit by a visiting Leeds player in the pre-match warm up. Keown was standing by the pitch
alongside ESPN presenter Rebecca Lowe and ex-footballer Robbie Savage.

What with Liverpool set for their first visit to 'Anfield South' in 16 years by way of their
Carling Cup semi-final win over Manchester City last night, we though we'd revisit the last time
the club earned themselves a day out at Wembley, i.e, the 1996 FA Cup Final against Manchester
United.

Knowing that just one Milan goal would effectively end the tie, and despite struggling to
contain my pre-match excitement, I entered the game with a little apprehension. However, little did
I know, I was about to witness one of the greatest halves of football in my life don't forget, I'm
still only 20 years-old.

First I just want to wish everybody a happy New Year and I hope everybody got home safe last
night. If you're reading this now then I'm also happy you're not suffering from a severe hang over.
Seriously, kudos! I managed to escape one myself!
In any case, with 2011 now officially over I thought it might be a good time to relive some of
the year's more interesting moments.

What are the odds on Rooney scoring the winner against Newcastle? Derek McGovern's Bets
of the Day
It wasn't a good weekend to be a Manchester United supporter, what with floods still hitting
Thailand and Surrey reeling from the rising cost of train travel. There were two things United fans
did not want to see on Saturday – Wayne Rooney behind frosted glass and David De Gea behind the
defence.
What are the odds AVB is not Chelsea manager at the start of next season? Derek
McGovern's Bets of the Day
Despite the win at Wolves, Chelsea's marriage to Andre Villas-Boas looks destined to end in
tears, as 90 per cent of marriages do. That's according to a survey of Katy Perry.
Quick name the top ten players who shouldn't become coaches when all is said and done.
Did Zlatan fall on anyone's list? Or maybe...did Zlatan fall on everyone's list? To say he has a
prickly personality would be to call the old Ronaldo, now new Ronaldo, a bit chunky.
And yet.
What are the odds Warnock would top a Most Annoying Prem boss poll? Derek McGovern's
Bets of the Day
Premier League managers are largely 'orrible, not to mention largely large. They only stop
whingeing about the referee when they're whingeing about the linesman. Should their team collect
silverware they are happy to take all the credit (stand up, Fergie), but should they flop it's
because of the referee (grow up, Fergie), FA sabotage (shut up, Fergie), or the colour of the
opposition shirts (bottoms up, Fergie).
Mirror: What are the odds this is Fergie and Rooney's last season at United? Derek
McGovern's Bets of the Day
Losing 3-0 at Newcastle was Manchester United's worst performance since last year and raised
three very serious questions. First, will Wayne Rooney still be at Old Trafford next season?
Mirror: What are the odds City beat United in Sunday's FA Cup showdown? Derek McGovern's
Bets of the Day
The fact that Chelsea are favourites for the FA Cup tells you all you need to know about this
year's competition. Namely, that the bookies have made a pig's ear of pricing it up.

Mirror: What are the odds Phil Jones ISN'T in England's Euro 2012 squad? Derek
McGovern's Bets of the Day
Manchester City in round three and now Liverpool in round four. If Manchester United are going
to win the FA Cup they're going to do it the hard way... with Phil Jones in the side.
Mirror: What are the odds Thierry Henry plays for Arsenal next season too? Derek
McGovern's Bets of the Day
Who said the Premier League was no country for old men? First Paul Scholes, now Thierry Henry
– two men with the combined age of Ryan Giggs. Giggs and Scholes are now so old, they argue over
who walked further to school as a kid.

It was, in short, a poor afternoon. Let's just say our trip to Spain couldn't have come at a
better time. More, after the jump:

I'm a hazy mess. Well, not a mess per se. But, disappointed by what was without a doubt a
toothless display of our ineffective style that sums up our season.
Queens Park Rangers are reportedly keen for defender Anton Ferdinand to shake hands with Chelsea's
John Terry in a bid to ease tensions between the pair before Saturday's FA Cup fourth round
tie.
All eyes will be on the duo in the clash at Loftus Road this weekend, as they come face-to-face for
the first time since England skipper Terry was charged with racially abusing Ferdinand in the
Premier League meeting between the two sides in October.

Internet's been down in the FootyBlog mansions recently, so we were unable to share the story of
the Anfield cat...
Apparently its a homeless cat named Kenny who is often spotted around the ground, but this was
the first time it made an appearance on the pitch at Anfield. A spoof Twitter was set up after the
game, reaching 25,000 followers the next day (is currently above 40,000!
In a decision that was undoubtably cheered at the FA's headquarters, a jury today cleared Spurs
manager Harry Redknapp and former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric of tax evasion.
Speaking on the steps of Southwark Crown Court, Redknapp said the case "should never have come
to court".

The column has a distinctly domestic feel this week, with all our bets focussing on the English and

harm, but like a junkie warming up another piece of tin foil, I can't get away from my [...]

Tonight is do-or-die time for the U.S. men's Under-23 national team. A win tonight against El
Salvador and the Americans stay alive in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament. Anything less
than a win and the United States will see the dream of an Olympic berth eliminated.
