With just three days of turnaround time, the U.S. men's national team figures to have a
different look on Tuesday night against Colombia from the squad we saw tie Poland on Saturday.
FC Dallas teammates Heath Pearce and Brek Shea have joined the team in Philadelphia, while
Carlos Bocanegra has returned to France.

This week's recap will be a little short. I got thrown into a last minute meeting this morning
at work so it took away time from my normal writing. Anyways its probably for the best since I only
saw bits and pieces from this weekend's action.

Arjen Robben's career was stuttering dramatically at the Bernabeu, two seasons spent trying to
prove to a succession of coaches of his ability ended when the Dutchman opted for a move to Bayern
Munich, it was probably the best decision of the 26 year old's career.

According to the ticking news machine that is Sky Sports News, some bookies have stopped taking
bets on Fernando Torres joining Chelsea. Interesting the bookies usually know
what's what.
I should add that no other news outlet has reported this, so I wonder if this story comes from a
work experience boy at Sky whose mate works for Paddy Power.
When I wrote my match preview on Friday I laid out some of the daunting history that the Red Bulls
would be facing when they traveled to DC to face United in the first leg of this season's Atlantic
Cup. In addition to a 10-game winless streak against DC, the Red Bulls hadn't taken a full three
points from an Eastern Conference foe on the road since their trip to BMO Field in TFC's expansion
season - an incredible 20 game streak of suckitude.
The United States has been the favorite to win the 2022 World Cup bid since it dropped its 2018
bid to clear the way for a European nation. Going up against a Middle Eastern country, two Asian
nations that previously hosted, and an island nation with little soccer culture, the U.S. has the
money, media presence, and soccer infrastructure to guarantee a successful World Cup.
This time tomorrow, the World Cup will have kicked off, and I, along with many others, will be
spicing up the matches with a bet or two. Historically, I've always done quite well with the World
Cup by following some golden rules, which are as follows:
- Bet on African and Asian nations to do well.
Bound for Stamford Bridge?
Bookmakers Paddy Power suspended betting today on the proposed move of Liverpool and Spain
striker Fernando Torres to Chelsea.
"We re-opened the market on Fernando's next club due to the speculation and interest from
punters following comments from the City boss Roberto Mancini," said Paddy Power spokesman Roberto
Coladangelo.
Ok so we all know the Torres situation. I have been writing on here for weeks now about Torres and
his future..It has culminated in today my earlier post about the bets on Torres coming to Chelsea
being suspended by one bookmaker and Abramovich making big waves in the transfer market.
Since then Roy Hodgson spoke to press today and mentioned Fernando Torres.
If any other WAG was wearing this dress, we'd be placing bets on her due date because pregnancy
could be the only real reason someone would don that shower curtain garb. But, this is how Kaka's
beautiful wifey Caroline (at left) rolls, and we have no choice but to accept it. Image: Bellazon.
(It's Wednesday, so let's throw out some thoughts on the World Cup, which is rapidly approaching.
Today, let's take a look a the three rank longshots -- the No Hopers.)In the year 2010 it seems
like there are increasingly fewer certainties in life. When it appears the United States is headed
toward universal health care, you know all bets are off.
Just when you thought it was all over, all bets are on again following the dramatic results from
this weekend. Chelsea could almost touch the title with 17 seconds remaining of the Manchester
derby on Saturday lunchtime.
As football pundits annoyingly remind us every season "never write off Man Utd".
Tottenham to beat Man.Utd. 3-1. Gomes to score first. Tottenham to be awarded a penalty and pigs to
crash land in the centre circle at half time. Tottenham to beat the top three in consecutive games
and Bale to score in all three games. Which of these bets is the fantasy one? You've all seen them
in betting shop windows.
Talk about an anti-climatic press conference this evening in Madrid.
Real president Florentino Perez told a news conference that Madrid has sacked Manuel Pellegrini
and would be replacing him with Jose Mourinho. Note the would be part of that sentence. Mourinho is
still officially the manager of Inter Milan.
I sure hope you had your bets in!Let's start the reactions with ESPN, and we can add to it as we
go.- Greg Seltzer
After defeating England 1-1, the United States ties Slovenia 3-2 after the worst refereeing
decision in a World Cup since Maradona's Hand of God. I don't think any referee can be
unintentionally that bad, and I think the game should be looked at for match fixing via the
referee.
Highlights here.
As soon as one World Cup ends, the odds for the winner of the next tournament come out - no reason
to waste time on getting those bets placed. There's only four years to go!
We don't know what teams will take part (aside from Brazil), we have no idea who will be coaching
many of them, and every nation in the world has players you've never heard of who will play major
roles in 2014.
This morning's Times says that Mark Schwarzer is probably going to Arsenal as soon as we get a
manager, and that West Ham's Robert Green may be the man to replace him. No issues with this, but
what it did make me realise is that there are probably other dominoes waiting to fall, we just
don't know it yet.
One of the more interesting bits to selecting a fantasy squad is that of deciding which player
gets to wear the captain's armband. The fact that that player earns double the
points for the week makes the decision fairly important. But, looking back on the recently-past
season and seeing that the best player ought to be the captain every week might not be the best
method of captaincy delegation.
Most of us have done it! had a bet on a game on the TV believing that we can predict the
outcome of the game whether it be first-goalscorer, correct score or the full/time result of the
game and I bet we all make the same 5 betting mistakes I mention below. I bet most of us have at
least done 3 of the mistakes on many occasions leaving you broke, lets hope these tips can help
you overcome those mistakes.
The Weekend Six Pack, week II Betting Preview is a post from: Just Football

football action. Rob is the public face of leading In Play betting specialists 188BET.
Another weekend, another loss. Three weekends in a row, now: is losing becoming a habit for the
champions? Well, no. But things aren't pretty on the pitch at the moment.
Off the pitch however, things are probably worse. Just as Chelsea seemed to be throwing a past of
almost continual behind-the-scenes turmoil behind them, Ray Wilkins' departure chucked a large,
slightly rusting spanner in the Cobham works.
Just a few things of note to consider before the expansion draft today.
1. Expansion teams have right to negotiate player contracts. Yes some players
up for grabs today are out of contract and were unprotected for a reason by their clubs. Portland
and Vancouver can still pick them and will have the first right to negotiate contracts (up, down,
or the same) with the player.
News this afternoon that Alan Pardew has gone past both Alan Curbishley and Martin O'Neill in this
afternoon's betting, to become the new odds-on favorite to be the next Newcastle manager. Alan
Pardew odds-on favorite to be new Newcastle manager And there are rumors that some betting
establishments are now refusing to take bets [.
Newcastle United defender Sol Campbell has slammed the club's decision to sack manager Chris
Hughton. Few people if any expected Hughton's sacking, and many questions are being asked as to why
the decision was made. Campbell, a seasoned veteran of the Premier League, has criticized the
decision, going as far as saying it "makes no sense.
The first MLS Re-Entry Draft was relatively uneventful last week, with just two players being
taken. The second Re-Entry is scheduled for Wednesday and is promising to have at least a few big
names taken.
So who might go? Established stars like Juan Pablo Angel and Guillermo Barros Schelotto stand a
good chance of being selected by teams hoping to find the missing piece to their championship
puzzles.
Tevez to fire, Milwall to win and a wispy-haired chin Firstly, apologies for 28-29 bets, we were
down 15 squids on our 35. First week in five without any profit, and who cares, cos that was sooo
last year. So New Years is upon us. Probably the worst night of the year for a seasoned [...]
"Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this sun of York"
(Shakespeare- Richard III)
Yes, I know a bit of culture is always welcomed by the Soccerlens readers and who better than
The Bard himself to open this piece? Of course Will actually meant that the time of discontent was
waning (in it's 'winter'), while I borrow the great man's phrase to suggest that down Stamford
Bridge way the words winter and discontent are becoming synonymous in recent seasons.
FIFA's latest world rankings were released in December 2009, with the next assessment due at the
start of February, just after the African Cup of Nations is due to end. So with the tournament
about to get underway, how do the teams involved fare? The number on the left represents the
nations' standing within Africa, the number in brackets their overall world ranking.
With the rest of the Premier League in FA Cup action the pressure is on United to clamber above
Chelsea and Arsenal with a win over Hull this weekend.
A victory would make the Reds the first top flight team to reach 50 points this season and take
them two clear of those London rivals. Three points is imperative.

I was shocked to see that Algeria had beaten tournament favorites Ivory Coast in the African
Nations Cup, this result will have been a major positive for England as it highlights the danger of
Algeria. I'm sure Fabio Capello would have been watching this game closely and would have learnt a
lot from it.
Premier League Team News - Betting Zone - ESPN SoccernetKlasnic remains crocked for Bolton which
could give Elmander a chance to redeem himself for the big contract he hasn't come close to earning
yet. Weiss and Wilshere look to be "included in the squad" but no mention of either starting
meaning that MTay and Lee are probably the safer bets if you can afford them.
There is a sub-plot to the battle for fourth place taking place at Eastlands on Sunday, if that is
not too grandiose a billing for the meeting of two tired teams, and its denouement may depend on
whether Manchester City or Liverpool win the race to achieve Champions League qualification. Should
it turn out to be Aston Villa or Tottenham who finish fourth then all bets are off, but as things
stand, if José Mourinho intends to return to England any time soon, and he keeps hinting that he
does, then Liverpool and Manchester City appear his most likely destinations.
Joey Barton had had quite few injuries during his 31 months on Tyneside, and it may surprise
Newcastle fans that Joey has only appeared 40 times for the Magpies with just 31 starts. Joey

There is no debating that American strikers Herculez Gomez and Edson Buddle are in the best
form of any American forwards on the planet, and this past weekend both strikers score two more
goals to boost their chance of earning a surprising World Cup roster spot.
Here my is my take on Gomez and Buddle for Fox Soccer.
