Less than week to go until the begininng of the Fantasy Premier League, so it's about time to start
looking at the top picks and tips for your team. I'll try to give comments about the best player
for your team in every price range. So, no more blabbering, let's get right to business.
GOALKEEPERS:
Over £6M
At the top of the price list for goalkeepers are ManCity's Joe Hart and Chelsea's Petr Cech.
Lionel Messi's list of accomplishments is breathtaking, and the scary thing is, he's far from
done.
Between all of the goals (180 of them in seven seasons with Barcelona), assists, mazy runs, two
World Player of the Year awards, three UEFA Champions League titles and a various array of other
trophies, it's hard to believe that Messi is just 24.
Ronaldinho's goal against Chelsea during Barcelona's 2005 Last 16 Champions League
knockout clash was amongst the best goals ever the history of the competition, leaving onlookers in
stunned awe.
Did you see it? Did you catch it first time? Did you blink? The answer to each question is, in
respective order; yes (but I needed to see it again), no (it was that good), and yes, I blinked
several times!
It's tough to sift through 122-plus minutes of a match filled with so much action, excitement
and intrigue and distill it down to a few details. But here are the five major events from
today's match that shaped the outcome of the game.
-Brazil's Early Miscue
The United States jumped out to an early lead thanks to a flub by Brazil just 74 seconds into
the game.
By Tony Edwards – SAN JOSE, CA (Jun 7, 2011) US Soccer Players -- Who's the best American player
in Major League Soccer? Who is the best American player in Europe? The former is a more complicated
question, perhaps. Is it the best player on the team with the most points (Landon Donovan?) Is it
the player who drives his team forward, whose presence and leadership are showcased by the success
his club has had.
The SuperDraft has come and gone once again and this year's edition certainly had its share of
head turning moves and signings.
The Red Bulls came into the draft with four selections and came away with four fresh faces that
could signal quite a bit of change throughout the organization.
I could write about why Gareth Bale is deserving of his PFA Player of the Year award or I could
write about why he's not even the second best player in the Spurs side so quite how he won it is
beyond me. I could even discuss the madness of him winning the overall best player award at the
same time as coming second in the young player award.
All season long, in order to knock off the top team in the best domestic league in the world out of
the top spot in the rankings, somebody was going to knock that club out of the Champions League. It
took until the final match of the season, but that finally happened as FC Barcelona played its game
and manhandled Manchester United 3-1 in a match that wasn't even that close.
Poland 0, France 1
Hoarau
Valbuena Martin Cabaye N'Zogbia
A.Diarra
Evra Abidal Kaboul Sagna
Carrasso
This was the second run-out, by my count, of France's new-look 4-1-4-1, which is quite similar
to Barcelona's 4-3-3.
Valbuena on the left is not a typo.
I don't think any transfer, in my limited time following football, has moved me to the extent
this one did. Not even close. And I can't see it happening again in the future. Regular readers
know how much I admire Fabregas, who I rated as the best player in the Premiership. So a part of me
feels betrayed and resentful.
Lionel Messi is quitting football for good. The 5'6" player has decided to give it all up to pursue
his life long dream of becoming a jockey. The Argentine is preparing for his new career by losing
some weight with the help of his new sponsor Jenny Craig. Messi who is highly regarded as the best
player in the world decided if he was going to leave football, he would Seinfeld it.
United legends divided Manchester United's Champions League exit has created a bit of a rift
between Sir Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane. Fergie is obviously not overly pleased to see his former
fledglings now giving honest appraisals of United performances as TV pundits. He turned on Keane
after being asked about his former skipper's views [.
A few years ago, a friend invited me to see a documentary on the New York Cosmos. I must admit. I
found the movie, Once In A Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos to be quite
entertaining. It was a cinderella story of an American soccer club that appeared out of nowhere,
did the unthinkable by signing the best player in the world and then crashed out of existence in a
larger-than-life fashion.
Barcelona's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at the Camp Nou tonight sealed a 3-1 aggregate win and
secured a place in the Champions League Final on 28 May final at Wembley.
This game was the most open, and riveting of the four recent El Clasico's with both sides
committed to playing football and not diving all open the pitch.
This is the first in what I hope will be a series of guest articles. First up is Rob Handworker.
Rob is in his mid 30′s, says Glenn Hoddle is the best player he's seen at The Lane and won his
child's team loyalties thanks to Woody's head. This is Rob's first venture into Spurs blogging.
As I did with the defence, I looked at my review of the midfield from last season. It isn't as
relevant now as the one about defenders was but there were a few points I could borrow,
Our midfield is integral to the way we play and the performance of the three men in the middle
often decides the sharpness in our attack and the solidity of our defence.
Player ratings for the United States loss to Panama last night.
(GK) Tim Howard: 5
Not much you can do when your defense and midfield are not getting it done. Made nice initial save
on the first goal of the match however left the rebound for Tejada to clean up. Was again very
vocal with his back line however this time did not have the desired affect.
Few thoughts on the first half;
- Bob Bradley did it again. No one expected Freddy Adu to start in the final and no one expected
to see Donovan up top as a lone striker.
- Mexico looked the more dangerous side, and with all of their weapons it was only a matter of
time before they scored.
Who is the best player ever to have been signed by Arsenal?
Last summer I wrote a post about ‘Arsenal's Best Transfer News Ever'. The point of that piece
was to determine which piece of transfer news was the most exciting when it was announced,
regardless of how that player went on to perform for the club.
Fabregas and Nasri are not irreplaceable! by Kamrun Abbasov I'm getting sick of repeating myself.
Fabregas is a world class player who will go on to have a magnificent career, I'm sure of that. He
is the best player at Arsenal, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't be better off without him. Why?
Because we're [.
Klinsmann & Vasquez: Back together again
My concern with Klinsmann is exactly the one lots of commentators have already cited he's not
really a tactician, and it was Jogi Löw who did all that heavy lifting with the German National
Team. And Martin Vasquez, who went from being an assistant at MLS's Chivas club to being
Klinsmann's assistant at Bayern (and came back for a short tenure as Chivas's head coach), isn't
really a tactician either but he seems to impress folks since he got the Youth Development Director
position with Real Salt Lake post-Chivas.
The Philly Soccer Page " Match report: Union 2-2 FC Dallas
If you are looking for a Freddy Adu report, you have come to the wrong place.
Fans New and Old, James van Riemsdyk, Excited to See Freddy Adu and the Union in Action
A look at Freddy Adu's first match with the Union, his potential impact on and off the field,
and Union fan James van Riemsdyk's perspectives on soccer and his own new teammates.
Arsenal take round one against Udinese in Champions League is a post from: Just Football
by Theo Fan
A club in turmoil thanks to the loss of their best player to the Spanish giants Barcelona. Fans
split over the lack of big money signings. A defiant refusal to play anything other than the
stylish, beautiful football their philosophy dictates.
Just this week, Brazilian player Marta was awarded the FIFA Player of the Year award for the 5th
consecutive year. As the soccer's number one female athlete, her career is still without
obstacles.
After joining the Women's Professional Soccer league from Sweden, her club the L.A. Sol folded
after one season.
Prior to Thursday's SuperDraft, New England Soccer Today's Brian O'Connell caught up with
Revsnet.com co-founder and draft guru Mike Marshall to get his take on the annual cavalcade of
aspiring soccer stars.
Brian: When we last spoke, you referenced a number of talented Akron players (Darlington
Nagbe, Michael Nanchoff, Kofi Sarkodie, Zarek Valentin, and Perry Kitchen) which have since been
named Generation adidas players.
The combine is over, the Generation Adidas Class is finalized, and the draft is upon us. Check
out our final predictions and tune into ESPN2 at noon eastern to see how it all pans out.
Round 1

1. Vancouver Whitecaps - DARLINGTON NAGBE, F (AKRON) $
The Whitecaps are lacking in the forward department, they should address it with the first pick
in the draft.
The conventional wisdom about the Red Bulls coming into this year's MLS Superdraft in Baltimore was
that they would seek out help in defense, focusing on the center back and fullback positions. On
the other hand, Erik Solér made it clear in interviews yesterday that if their favored targets at
those positions were not available, they would select the best player available.
As Barcelona head into this weekends game against Atletico Madrid looking for a record 16th
successive Liga victory, the question has be asked: Can anyone stop Barcelona this season?
It ha been an amazing season so far at the Camp Nou as Barca seem to set records on a weekly
basis.
So far this season in La Liga, Barcelona have picked up 52 points from a possible 57 after 19
games, which beats their own record from 2008-09.
While one Brazilian icon exits the soccer stage, a future one took another step toward entering
the limelight after a stellar showing in the CONMEBOL Under-20 championships in Peru.
Neymar scored two goals in the finale on Saturday -- a 6-0 thrashing of Uruguay -- to capture
the tournament's golden boot with nine goals, outlasting his closest competition by five
scores.

Suppose I asked you, dear reader, to name the best player on the New England Revolution. You'd
probably say it was captain Shalrie Joseph. And you would, of course, be right. Joseph is the Revs'
engine room, skipper, and various other vital nautical accoutrement (poop deck!
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Lionel Messi is currently the best player in the world.

I attended my first Philadelphia Independence game of the season on hot and humid Labor Day
weekend. Philly's Cheesesteaks fell to the Western New York Flash by a score of 2-1 at Leslie Quick
Stadium at Widener University. The expansion Flash are on a roll in their first season in WPS.
The Marta-led team has not lost any games and is leading the league.
I don't think I could be a football agent.
Firstly, I'm just not that kind of hard-nosed businessman driven solely by money. Secondly, I'm
not a particularly great liar. Mrs Blogs always knows when I'm spoofing because of the look on my
face. I tend to make a face which suggests that I'm making a face so as not to look like I'm
fibbing but the face says "I'm fibbing".
It is looking to be the best player move made by the Piranhas, bringing Stephanie Goddard from
Germany to play for the W-League Piranhas. For the past two weeks Goddard has been lighting

Spurs youngster big in Spain While we were all left drooling at consummate ease with which Spain
under 21s popped the ball around against their English counterparts, the Spanish media did manage
to spot something they envied in the opposition ranks: Kyle Walker. The Tottenham full-back was
undoubtedly England's best player on the night and [.
Santos lifts the 2011 Copa Libertadores. Neymar comes good, Danilo follows. Penarol manages to
pull back one through an own goal by Durval. The match ends in fisticuffs.
Neymar wept after the match as did Pele, the guardian angel of Santos who's taken quite a shine
to the striker with the mohawk hairdo.

We're about 10 hours away from the 5:30 p.m. kickoff of Copa America (Bolivia-Brazil live on
Telefutura), South America's most important national team competition outside the World Cup.
By Eric Beard
You do know this is the same guy most of you have been in awe of all year, right?
It's hard to find many cases more explicitly capturing the fickle nature of the neutral football
fan (and journalist) than the double-standard that is placed upon Lionel Messi when he's wearing
blue and red in Barcelona and when he's wearing blue and white in Buenos Aires.
One has to wonder how the remaining four teams in the Women's World Cup can top the quarterfinal
games we saw last weekend. Three of the four quarterfinals needed more than 90 minutes to be
decided. Two went to PKs. We saw the defending champs and host nation eliminated, the sport's
best player was eliminated, we had last minute goals to send games to overtime.
Ahead of our game today, Dave Clark from Sounder At Heart has shared his thoughts on Seattle
Sounders' chances, their best players and the history of the club.
Scott the Red: Are you excited about the game?
Dave Clark: I'm actually not excited about the game. Friendlies are nice exhibitions and do a
decent job of growing the potential fan base here, but I'm a fan of winning trophies (Seattle has
two in the last two years) and would rather the organization concentrate on competitive matches
while reaching out to people who will actually support a team to which they have local ties rather
than one across the pond that happens to be much better, but of little significance locally.
