The Real Problem

SoccerLens 29 October @ 03:43 AM EST

So a new President and around 250 million pounds later, Real Madrid find themselves in exactly the same position as they were at the end of Bernd Schuster's ill-fated rated reign in 2008.

With the loss at Alcorcon in the Copa del Rey all Real Madrid's match day personnel have been thrown into the spot-light as, when coupled with the suspect draw at Sporting Gijon, the Real Madrid express train has, temporarily at least, ran out of steam.

Frank Rijkaard volverá a sentarse en los banquillos un año después de que abandonara su puesto de entrenador del Barcelona. Deep thought: Where are you, Bernd Schuster?

Soccerblog 03 May @ 10:40 AM EST

Bernd Schuster breaks his silence

Soccerblog 14 April @ 10:39 PM EST

Even George Steinbrenner in his heydays could never match Ramon Calderon in his contemptuous disregard of managers. Exhibit A is Fabio Capello who actually won them the Liga in 2007 after Fiorentina Perez's expensive set of superstars went three seasons without a title. The Italian with his unimaginative style but effective style of soccer was fired even as Juande Ramos, the present coach emulates his approach.

Remember this summer when Bernd Schuster was singing the praises of the "biggest club in the world"? Remember when Schuster said (of Ronaldo) that "some day hewill be with us"? Remember when the mustachioed German was fired for being incompetent? I certainly do.

The current situation in the Spanish Primera really makes one wonder what the hell goes on in the mind of modern footballers.

Out. Many connotations in that three-letter word; and not many of them are positive.

As far as football goes, out could be out of the Starting Eleven, or out of favor with the manager, or in the case of a few, ahem, boys, a variation of out "outed" might not be good for the marketing angle of one's career.
