Borrowing a page from SI's Peter King, here are 5 things I think I know after the Revs first
pre-season match of 2008. Keep in mind that I am fully aware that this is a mere exhibition match
against a Bermuda team that is in turmoil, so it is not going to tell us a [...]
Can FIFA VP and Concacaf President Jack Warner have any aspect of his life not surround buy chaos?
If not, could the chaos at least not have anything to do with money just once?
Mr. Warner has asked FIFA to allow T&T to play all future home fixtures abroad because he is
unhappy with the fees the T&T Ministry of Sport change the team to play at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Wow. If I hadn't read this MLSnet.com fluff-piece on Khano Smith, I wouldn't have known that
the preliminary qualifying round for CONCACAF had started this past weekend. Obviously, given
Smith's name coming up, Bermuda was one of the participants. Since the article was written on
Friday, there's nothing in there about whether Bermuda beat the [.
Barbados-USA was a dead rubber, and the less said about the match the better. It made for a good
treatment for insomniacs, although once again the match demonstrated that Freddy Adu is one of the
few dynamic American players. Barbados will take a smidgen of consolation from Emmerson Boyce
cracking a shot against the crossbar, and might even view a 0-1 defeat as a bit of a victory, but
in the end the Bajans will wait another four years for a shot at the world stage.
Sunday:
Trinidad & Tobago 1 - 2 Bermuda: The Revs' Khano Smith started and went the full 90 minutes for
Bermuda, tallying an assist on John Barry Nusum's first goal with a nice cross. Trinidad & Tobago
were heavy favorites in the match, especially since they were playing at home.
USA 8 - 0 Barbados: Matt Reis was on the bench, but saw no time after his surprise call-up due to
Tim Howard's injury.
Khano Smith's Bermuda got the job done on the road with a 2-1 win against Trinidad and Tobago last
weekend, but couldn't complete the upset at home, falling 2-0 tonight to loss the series 3-2 and
fall out of contention for a place in the 2010 World. Smith started the match and was subbed out in
the 78th minute with Bermuda already down 2-0.
Houston opened the season with a trip to New England and left with the biggest regular season
loss in the club's short history. In fact, Houston has never beaten the Revs in five regular season
match-ups. But that should come as little consolation to a Revolution side that has fallen in the
past two MLS Cup finals to the Dynamo.
Shalrie Joseph (Grenada) and Khano Smith (Bermuda) have been called up for their countries' World
Cup Qualifiers this weekend. The two join Kenny Mansally (The Gambia), who has already missed the
past two Revolution matches, on the absence list for this Thursday's match in Houston, and likely
the following two matches as well.
Good morning everybody. I'm back from my weekend away and there is a bunch to discuss from the
soccer world this Monday morning.
Let's start with several surprising World Cup qualiying results throughout the world.
Brazil, Argentina struggle before big clash
Paraguay moved into first place in South American World Cup qualifying with its 2-0 win against
Brazil on Sunday.
Trinidad & Tobago's national team have one less problem to worry about after the national
federation and the government reached an accord on World Cup qualifying matches at Hasely Crawford
Stadium. You may recall that Trinidad & Tobago had to play the home leg of their tie with Bermuda
in Macoya because they refused to pay a $150,000 user fee or 10% of gate receipts to the Ministry
of Sport.
