Saw three games today. Chelsea-Villa was one of those European games I'm going to point to as proof that MLS isn't THAT bad.
Don't get me wrong, Union-United wasn't beautifully played by any stretch of the imagination. But at least it was energetic and exciting. I guess they wanted to put on a good show for Joe Biden.

The undefeated Los Angeles Galaxy take on their MLS Cup rivals Real Salt Lake tonight at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.

Los Angeles is riding high right now with a league best 32 points and a 12-0-2 record. Perhaps what makes their recent run so impressive is that the club has not allowed a single goal in all contests on the road.

The clubs earned the lionshare of the publicity this week, but for two very different reasons.

The Side: A galaxy is a cluster of stars. Ironically, the LA Galaxy are not a cluster of stars. Nope, they have maybe two or three stellar players, but they do not have a cluster. I don't think they will be as successful this year as they were last year, but I am certain they will be better than they were in 2008.

One of the most interesting developments in US soccer over this World Cup cycle is the migration of American talent to Europe. The number of yanks abroad has been steadily increasing, as are the contributions to their teams:

We all remember the troubles that the Double caused Seattle.

A chilly evening here in Carson with the marine layer that has engulfed the coastal South Bay threatening to encroach a little further inland here at the stadium (don't let anyone tell you Southern California is particularly warm in late May and June).

There's two changes for the Galaxy tonight.

It's World Cup send off night tonight here at the Home Depot Center. Tonight's game between Toronto F.C. and the Los Angeles Galaxy will be the final MLS match for two weeks at least for World Cup hopefuls Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan.

Toronto FC comes to the Home Depot Center in search for their first road victory in MLS play.

It's all about Edson Buddle. I don't expect that Landon Donovan will be in the 18 today or if he is to get the start (in fact, I'd be kind of pissed if he plays since he really needs a break and this is a game where the Galaxy don't need him). So it's up to Edson to amp up the Galaxy attack.

Freddie Ljungberg ditched the Seattle Sounders to move to the Fire as their most recent DP. He came on in the 58th minute. By then his new team were in cruise control having scored three goals to Galaxy's one. There was no sighting of the other DP, Nery Castillo, who has yet to join. Ljungberg's Fire debut was uneventful.

In one of the most wildly anticipated friendlies of the summer, the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Spanish giant Real Madrid at the World famous Rose Bowl in Pasadena. (7:30pm PST, FSC)

The match serves as the final match for Galaxy midfielder Clint Mathis who will play his last match in the stadium where he began his illustrious career.

It will be standing-room only this afternoon when the Galaxy visit Toyota Park Section 8 will be in fine voice, the weather breezy but mild, the pitch immaculate, the foe imposing but beatable: exactly the situation where the Fire have laid an absolute egg again and again over the last three or four seasons.

After dominating in the first half of the season, the Supporters Shield will come down to the final match for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy need a win or a draw against FC Dallas to avoid playing FCD in the first round of the playoffs. If the Galaxy fail to earn a result than Real Salt Lake will take possession of the regular season title.

Much will/has been written about the previous two match-ups in League play. The cliche will be thrown around about how the Playoffs are a whole new season. People will also talk about how different the teams are.

Let's look at that.
