Man Utd's lone star lacks a strong supporting cast
Forget Liverpool's two-man team it appears than Manchester United have become a one-man
team. (And unless that one man is a 1986 vintage Diego Maradona, it's a dangerous situation.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly finally reached the end of his tether
with misfiring striker Dimitar Berbatov, and is prepared to make a huge loss on
the £30 million Bulgarian in a bid to offload him in the summer.
Goal highlights from the Everton vs Manchester United Premier League game on Saturday, February 20,
2010 at Goodison Park. Current score Everton 2-1 Manchester United ( Diniyar Bilyaletdinov 19′,
Dan Gosling 76′/ Dimitar Berbatov 16′) Everton 0-1 Manchester United ( Berbatov 16′ goal)
Berbatov scores from close range to give United the lead.
Amid all the tributes being paid to Wayne Rooney after another virtuoso performance on Tuesday
evening against AC Milan took his goals tally for the season to 25, it was easy to forget that
Dimitar Berbatov was even at San Siro.
Well, the goals just keep coming for Mexico's Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. Manchester
United's Hernandez found the back of the net against his new team while playing for his old squad,
Chivas Guadalajara, during Chivas' 3-2 win on Friday night.
Man U boss Sir Alex Ferguson was most likely pleased with Chicharito's performance, but would
have definitely preferred him scoring for his new squad rather than his old one.

DIMITAR Berbatov heads a list of United stars who have between now and the end of the
season to save their Old Trafford careers.
The Guardian posted a poll asking its readers whether Manchester United should have
kept Carlos Tevez. A surprising majority said 'yes.' Can this be chalked up to the fickle feelings
of fandom? Or is it sincere affection for the man who scored 37 goals in all competitions while
wearing red?
Smoking is cool. Here are some footballers rocking nicotine chic. With a couple of notable
exceptions...
Being a bad-ass, of course Man City's new signing Mario Balotelli smokes. Indoors. With fit
women.
Slaven Bilic rocking a Marlboro. Not strictly a player anymore, but still cool.
- Attempting to shift the blame from his players poor performances, Fergie has yet again
critized a match official.
- Ferguson's team selection not as weak as you may think.
Sir Alex has come out yet again and criticized a refereeing decision when his players
performances were ultimately to blame in Manchester United's 0-1 shock loss to Leeds United in the
FA Cup third round.
Five minutes before United opened the scoring today, Dimitar Berbatov missed an absolute sitter.
Gary Neville burst in to the box and played in a perfect ball to the Bulgarian, with half the
ground on their feet in celebration, only for Berb to fire wide. It was an absolutely dreadful
miss.

Manchester United forked out £30m for Dimitar Berbatov after Daniel Levy stuck to the asking
price we didn't want to pay. The downside for us was we had to pay over the odds for a player Sir
Alex Ferguson really wanted, whilst Tottenham had a load of money in the bank but couldn't do
anything with it given the deal was concluded at midnight on the transfer deadline day.

Reports emanating from Italy suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson could be keen on completing a swap
deal to bring AC Milan's misfiring striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Old Trafford.
At this point, pretty much every angle on the 2009-2010 Premiership Campaign has been covered.
Enough semi-sarcastic, semi-humorous award lists have been published that I have very little chance
of getting any new content up. So, instead, I've decided to give out my awards that combine the
past season with the upcoming transfer window.
The Brazil striker Luís Fabiano has said that he only wants to play for a club where he will
have a chance of winning titles, and he's picked out United and Milan as his two favourites
targets.
Fabiano:
"I have made it clear I will not be signing a new contract with Sevilla and at 29 I now need
to join a club where I can start challenging for the highest honours from the first
season.
Dimitar Berbatov is less a divisive figure amongst United fans and more a Red Herring, any time his
name is rolled out by rival fans it's along the lines "you could have had Torres or Tevez for less
money". His lack of goals for United is a statistic you can't ignore, over his two seasons at Old
Trafford he has managed 3 more goals than his first season at Tottenham, playing in a better team
who therefore create more chances.

Fredy Montero is placing the Seattle Sounders on his back and carrying them back into postseason
contention.
The young Colombian striker was once again instrumental in orchestrating the Sounders attack,
scoring one and setting up a second in Seattle's 2-0 win Sunday evening.
United went into this afternoon's clash with Fulham hoping to avenge two league defeats on the spin
at Craven Cottage, it looked as though they might just do that when Paul Scholes scored after just
eleven minutes with a trademark power-driver into the bottom corner from fully 25-yards out. The
opening goal came about following a neat lay-off from Berbatov on the edge of the Fulham penalty
area.
ESPN today significantly raised the bar today on the quality of Premier League coverage in the
United States. Their early kickoff between Manchester City and Chelsea was a turning point for a
few different reasons. First, the game featured one of the top English commentators, Ian Darke,
broadcasting exclusively to a U.
Yesterday was one of those nights, when you just plonk in front of the telly and thank the Lord
for some football, any football that is going on. Even more so for United fans, after the no-show
that we put up against Bolton on Sunday. As luck would have it, I got to catch a lot of football,
right from the highlights of the first round of the Champions League, moving on to games from the
Championship, and even a sprinkling of games from League 1 and League 2!
I'm finding it a bit difficult to make up my mind for this game. I can see Arsenal scoring three
goals and I can also imagine us conceding three or four. Goes without saying that anything in
between also seems quite possible. We could get a tight win, an exciting draw, or another in the
string of bad losses against United.
Wayne Rooney's on crutches and Cesc Fabregas has a broken leg.
Without kicking a ball, Chelsea has received an Easter basket full of good news in its quest to
dethrone Manchester United this week when the two most important players on its two biggest rivals
went down with injuries in mid-week Champions League action.
It was obvious. As soon as the camera zoomed in on Wayne Rooney's face at the end of the match
in the Allianz Arena, United fans knew their team would win neither the Premier nor Champions
League. The ‘positive' prognosis the next day offered little comfort. The margin between success
and failure for United in the 2009/10 season was four days wide.

Valencia are interested in Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
The what: FA Charity Shield – Chelsea v. Manchester United
The where: Wembley Stadium (90,000)
The when: August 8, 3pm local time (10am EST)
The how: Fox Soccer Channel (DirecTV 619, Dish Network 149)
The why: Because we desperately well, maybe not desperately need a positive
result.
Valencia's winger Juan Mata is gutted that Ryan Giggs won't be playing in his team's game
against Manchester United on Wednesday.
When he was 13-years-old, United visited Valencia in a Champions League group game that ended in
a goalless draw and Mata remembers Giggs from that night.
"Well I was 13, went to school the Gesta 1 in Oviedo and trained in the Requexon
facilities," he said.
Two London Derbies this week trump most of the other fixtures in Week 7. The early match between
Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers promises to be a raging, uncontrollable bore-fest. Of
course Arsenal's trip to Stamford Bridge has everyones' attention, but the fixture between
West Ham United and Fulham could have excitement hidden among the recent mediocrity.
Manchester United patriarch Sir Alex Ferguson has issued wayward disciple
Wayne Rooney with a stark warning, insisting that the haughty striker will not
simply be allowed to walk back into the first team once he's finished recuperating from an ankle
injury under the expert supervision of the poolside medical team at Dubai's five-star Burj Al Arab
Hotel.

Tonight's game promised to give one of the closest indications so far of who could become
European champions this year, but in truth, nobody could've predicted what followed. Barcelona
dissected their rivals with precise, incisive play that arguably would have torn absolutely any
team in the world apart.
Even Alex Ferguson acknowledged Leeds were well worthy of their victory (despite bleating on
about stoppage time AGAIN. He sounds like a cantankerous grumbling old grand-dad). This was no
Championship Manager-esque 'team who has twenty shots loses to team who had one'. Beckford made Wes
Brown look far from an England international class defender, which must be worrying for Capello as
he looked a good option to cover at both right back and centre back at the World Cup.
This is a truly mouth-watering match. Two giants of European football colliding and the reunion
of David Beckham to his old coach and father-figure in Alex Ferguson make this match maybe the most
anticipated of the Round of 16.
While the media has made a big deal about the strained way Beckham and Ferguson parted seven
years ago, Beckham says this will not motivate him further.
The race to the top narrowed Tuesday night as Manchester United swept aside West Ham United at
Old Trafford.
Shades of 1966 early on as Man United's Ben Foster dropped Alessandro Diamanti's dipping shot
onto the goal-line. Did it cross? Sir Alex Ferguson's sometime nemesis, referee Alan Wiley, thought
not.

"What's the best part of being a Manchester United footballer?" is the question directed at
Dimitar Berbatov. With a smile on his face, as if he can't understand how such a question could be
asked, he replies, "being a Manchester United footballer."
The eyes of the country are all on Dimitar Berbatov at the moment as he is given the difficult
task of replacing Wayne Rooney in Saturday's fixture against title rivals Chelsea.

For the first time in seven years, there will be no English representation in the last four of
the UEFA Champions League.
To say that an era has ended would be excessive, but it is certainly notable that none of the
established ‘Big Four' have reached their usual positioning amongst Europe's elite.

The buzz in the Mexican media is evident and if one were to read all the headlines coming out of
the Aztec media there is a sense of pride in the transfer of Javier Hernández to Manchester
United.
For many, he might not have needed the Mexican media machine or his position at Chivas to really
make a leap of this level.
