In between various planes and trains back from Morocco I managed to catch yesterday's goings-on
at Elland Road, and jolly heartening they were too. One of my brothers, for whom the rigours of
parenthood mean that Spurs-watching is less frequently indulged in these days, texted afterwards to
note that, as the first full Spurs game he has seen in around a year, he was pleasantly surprised
by our performance.
The Premier League kicks off in just three days, and we need to throw some serious content at you
to prepare you for mini-league and NCNB Fantasy League domination. Just as we did for The World
Cup, I've decided to ... Continue reading →
Wayne Rooney will take up the main striking role for England at the World Cup in South Africa.
Quite right too. The Manchester United striker is in excellent form right now. Some say he is
almost single-handedly keeping his team in the race for the Premiership. He can certainly change
games in an instant.
It could still all go horribly wrong, but for the moment at least our lot continue to make all
the right moves. The threatened second half implosion did not materialise, and instead, after a
fourth consecutive League win, we now have to come to terms with the fact that our glorious heroes
have discovered some consistency, of all things.
Not exactly sure what the lyrics are to the Champions League anthem (the telly-box at AANP
Towers can only ever pick up unspecifiable high-pitched warbling, until that final chorus of "The
Chaaaaaampions") but while watching this midweek's shenanigans, AANP dreamt the dream – the dream
that next season I would not just try to fathom the lyrics from the comfort of my living-room, but
actually at the Lane.
Never mind Saturday's match, the games I find myself looking ruefully back upon are those at
home to Stoke, Wolves and Hull, way back in the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Oh for
those eight points now...
Back to the Sunderland game, and something of a whimper with which to finish the five-game
winning streak.
The Oscars they're not
There's been a slew of awards handed out in recent weeks to honour those who have made the
Premier League season just passed a memorable one. Wayne Rooney won the PFA and FWA awards for his
outstanding campaign up front for Man United, while Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson were chosen by
league sponsor's Barclay's and the League Managers Association as their respective managers of the
year.

Yesterday's result at Anfield has seen a lot of chatter around this and other Blogs, mostly
negative and mostly about Liverpool. However, two teams played yesterday and after an odd set-back
(for my money you kick a ball when it's still you've taken the free-kick) Sunderland were
Liverpool's equals.
I've barely recovered from Saturday's game as I write this. In fact, I haven't recovered at all.
In 7 days we've gone from ecstasy to despair. Oh the life of a Spurs fan. Thanks to the awful
performance against Bolton, tonight's game against Sunderland has taken on a whole new meaning.
One point, three games. Generally the solution at AANP Towers when things are not quite
tickety-boo is to drink plenty of water and wait it out. In extreme circumstances we have even been
known to chew on some raw garlic. However, something a little more drastic will probably be
required from our heroes tonight, to shake them from the alarming torpor that characterized
Saturday's performance.
