In last year's player of the season poll on this site, Benoit Assou-Ekotto came second –
albeit a very distant second behind eventual winner Luka Modric – and that was a measure of the
esteem that most of the fans held him in at the time.
We've always known that BAE can be a little aloof – talking about playing for Spurs as just a
job – but have his latest comments dampened his reputation?
Tottenham Hotspur vs Blackburn Rovers, Sunday 29th April, White Hart Lane, 4pm kick off,
SSHD1 & SS1
4 games left, 4 wins required. Kenny Palmer steps up to the mike to preview the
match.
Sunday's game against Blackburn is the first of the four matches which will ultimately define
Harry Redknapps four year tenure as Tottenham manager.
I've quoted Harry's post-QPR comments about our centre half issues twice already so I won't
repeat them yet again. However, it has emerged today that things are going from bad to worse on the
injury front with reports that both Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto could miss the rest of
the season.
Queens Park Rangers vs Tottenham Hotspur, Saturday 21st April, Loftus Road, 530pm kick
off ESPN 1 & HD
THFC1882 is very thankful to Ciaran Griggs who has the unenviable task after last
Sunday's game, of previewing the massively important QPR match this Saturday evening.
Lahm, Dani Alves, Marcelo, Assou-Ekotto... A Statistical Analysis of Europe's Attacking
Full-Backs is a post from: Just Football
In the past, a full-back's traditional role was to defend from wide positions, track opposition
wingers and prevent crosses coming into the box. However over recent years the role has evolved to
be almost more an attacking position than a defensive one.
This weekend sees a rather welcome break from league action as Tottenham prepare to face Bolton
in the FA Cup 6th round. A trip to Wembley beckons for the winner and a chance of a place in the FA
Cup final itself but defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto claims every game is a cup final at this stage of
the season.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester Utd, Sunday 2012, 4.10 pm kick off, White Hart Lane,
Sky Sports 1 & HD1
The Champions are in town this Sunday for a massive match. They need to continue winning to put
pressure on their bitter rivals as they try and win a 20th League Title and we need to get back
into the winning habit to maintain our push for 3rd place.
Before I start on the match preview, I just wanted to formalise what you've probably already
heard. I have taken over the running of THFC1882.com and would like to acknowledge all the hard
work Stuart put into the site and what a great job he did! It's a great opportunity and I'm
looking forward to getting some interesting topics out there.
At the start of the week, injury concerns were held over from Sunday's game at Stevenage after
Adebayor, Modric and BAE were all late withdrawals. At the time, Harry was concerned for this
weekend's match but as the week has progressed, many of the doubts seem to have eased.
Firstly, Rafael van der Vaart announced that he was winning his own fitness race before Ade
tweeted that he also expected to return.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was left furious when Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was
allowed to remain on the pitch despite a high tackle that forced forward Franco Di Santo out of the
Latics' 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.
With his side firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, the only positive
Martinez could reflect on was the mild nature of Di Santo's injury.
Benoît Pierre David Assou-Ekotto, or Mr Consistency to a growing number of Spurs fans always
scores well in our polls but did his performance last night finally secure our man of the match
award?
BAE's most telling influences on the game came in attack with the raking diagonal ball that set up
Aaron Lennon and the pile-driving second half strike that doubled his tally in a Spurs shirt.
Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto scores a fantastic goal from all of 30 yards to give the
home side a 2-0 lead against Everton at White Hart Lane.
How can anyone dare to question the abilities of my favourite Satay House fan Benoît Pierre
David Assou-Ekotto? Not to be confused with the wife and child killing wrestler Chris Benoit,
Assou-Ekotto has been one of our best players this season as far as I'm concerned. That is in
addition to having the world's biggest head of hair and saying 'lol satay house' on the majority of
his tweets.
If Danny Rose takes to the pitch against Rubin Kazan tonight, it will be a welcome sight for
Spurs fans to see one of our brightest stars return from a troublesome long term injury.
Rose was converted to an emergency left back last season and impressed in the role to give some
much needed competition and back up for BAE's slot and this position is now a long term target for
the player.
We had the same stories with William Gallas last year so it should be expected that the
newspapers should highlight Emmanuel Adebayor's past and ask whether Spurs fans will be welcoming
him with open arms this season.
To be fair, these stories had been a bit thin on the ground this far so it was left to our old
nemesis the Daily Mail to ask the question.
Two of the club's up and coming stars were rewarded with new contracts yesterday as Danny Rose
and Kyle Walker put pen to paper on deals that will take them to 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Both players were involved with England under 21's in the summer and while Walker impressed at
Aston Villa, Rose returned to the Spurs' first team and showed his versatility by covering for BAE
at left back.
Every club has players who polarise opinions. We've had and still have our share. Those players
who are loved and loathed in almost equal numbers. For years Jermaine Jenas was the ultimate
'marmite' player, though it now appears most agree he's more 'arsenic' than a harmless yet
disgusting yeast based spread.
When it came to the player of the season awards, Benoit Assou-Ekotto was a surprise candidate
for many fans and although Luka Modric was a clear winner in most polls, BAE was a strong
challenger for second place.
Fans like consistency, and aside for one or two isolated shaky performances, Benny showed a
level of form throughout that saw him make 45 appearances in all competitions for the club last
season.
The nominations are in and it's time to have your say as to who should be Tottenham's player of
the season for 2010-11.
Was Luka Modric the right decision by the supporters or do we agree with the PFA that Gareth
Bale should lift our own award? Sandro had an incredible second half of 2010-11, but was that
enough to mount a challenge?
Tottenham supporters have voted for Luka Modric as their player of the season after some
consistent performances throughout 2010-11 and while it's hard to argue with that outcome, who else
could stake a claim for that prize?
Throughout this week we'll look at some of Spurs' best players of this campaign and look at
their credentials to challenge Luka.
Benoit Assou-Ekottu has targeted the Manchester City game for his comeback after the hamstring
injury that forced him off against West Brom at the weekend.
Initial prognosis suggested that BAE would be out for three weeks, which would just leave him
the final game of the season to aim for, but he hopes it will be sooner.
Here we go again with Serie A Weekly giving you a list of five stories to read this lunchtime
that we have seen from around the web and enjoyed ourselves. Many of these will be about Italian
football of course but there is always room for something different and those will be here too.
Take a look at our recommendations, pass them on and be sure to leave a comment on these great
articles.
