Feilhaber's Goal sunk Mexico in the Gold Cup Final/SI.com
In the recent history of American Soccer no selection of a player to a major tournament squad
has elicited as much controversy and quite frankly anger as last week's selection by Peter Nowak of
Benny Feilhaber to the US Men's Olympic Team.
Derby County is conducting a housecleaning this year bringing in nine new players and letting go of
six, including American midfielder Benny Feilhaber. After his $2 million transfer to Derby County
from Hamburg, Feilhaber has only played in ten matches (nine as a sub) since last August due to
injuries.
After scoring two goals over the weekend to help Standard Liege beat RSC Anderlecht 3-1 in the
Belgian Cip over the weekend, Oguchi Onyewu has his sights on their next foe; Liverpool.
Onyewu told the Belgian press that he thinks Standard can surprise a team like Liverpool when he
said "Now we must concentrate our Liverpool.
Keying off a BBC report (which, for the record, I didn't read), Sports Illustrated's FanNation
reports Benny Feilhaber may move to the Israeli First Division, specifically, to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Not to bag on the Israeli league (as I may have done to, say, the Greek First Division...at some
point), but this is not one [.
Benny Feilhaber's Soccer Career might be going down hill, but his singing career is on the rise big
time! This video is unbelievable, you really have to watch it. He sings the Jordin
Sparks' and Chris Brown's "No Air". All I can say is thank god for facebook, this
one is amazing. Feel free to discuss [.
Just received this link to Max Zeger's article on the possible, but sounding more probably,
trade.
And I know that Benny Feilhaber's looking to come back to the States as well.
Here's a piece of Zeger's post:
Alexi Lalas has been trying to ship Carlos Ruiz somewhere for a while now.
Rating: 4 (Good)
This is courtesy of DuNord and one of our sources. Basically the big rumor surrounding Houston
Dynamo is that Derby County of the Premier League is going to loan out a very unhappy Feilhaber to
the Houston Dynamo.
A few weeks ago, we reported that Benny Feilhaber was on the auction block at Derby shortly before
he was named to the US Olympic squad. Now, it seems he may still have a place in the club's side,
but just barely. After his meteoric rise from Hamburg and the US national team to last summer's
transfer to Derby, Feilhaber seemed to be the next big thing.
Or so says Ives in this post.
I'm on record in the comments of my last SBI Supporter's View saying that I wouldn't have used
the allocation for Cory Gibbs due to his injury history and cost against the salary cap (not like I
actually know what that is, of course). But I am not the guy(s) in charge of personnel over at the
HDC (that can only be a good thing) and I guess their calculus told them to pull the trigger.
Just five months after landing at Derby County in England, US midfielder Benny Feilhaber is looking
at a possible move to Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv. Although a move from the EPL to Israel can
only be seen as stepping backwards, this is a smart choice since he is not getting playing time at
Derby.
In an attempt to improve on covering stories until they reach an end, I updated my earlier post on
Benny Feilhaber's now-kiboshed move to Maccabi Tel Aviv; England's Derby County rejected the move.
There was more to the story - and I covered it in the update - but there's more still yet in
play...enough so [.
In a group that includes quality teams like Nigeria and Holland, the U.S. needed to beat Japan
today in its Olympics Group B opener.
A Stuart Holden goal proved enough for a 1-0 win and while not particularly convincing, the U.S.
took its chance while Japan did not take their more plentiful chances.
U.S. Olympic team midfielder Benny Feilhaber is in talks with Major League Soccer about a move that
could land him in the league with the Revs. This all according to SBI, Feilhaber and the league are
in talks over a potential three-year deal have him joining the Revs, which are currently sitting
atop the allocation [.
Here's a link to an article that contains the U.S. National Team's squad for the upcoming World Cup
qualifiers against Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. The squad looks very similar to the recent one
that was called up for the Guatemala game and I still would like to see some different players
included. I don't really know what is accomplished by including Brian Ching, Eddie Lewis, and
Frankie Hejduk.
We've all been waiting for it, the Olympic Roster has officially been released. There are a
few suprises (Benny Feilhaber) and a more than a few shoe ins. I'll let you guys get to
discussing this though, the roster is after the jump. 2008 U.S. MEN'S OLYMPIC TEAM ROSTER BY
POSITION GOALKEEPERS (2): Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), [.
Even though the men's and women's Olympic soccer tournamanets are already under way, the games
proper begin Friday.
Before we get to some suggested Web sites to maximize your Olympic soccer experience, here's a
trivia question for you: what percentage of the 18-player U.S. Men's Olympic roster has ties to
Southern California?
Not only have all of us been keen to watch Benny Feilhaber in China, we've also been keen to find
out where he would be moving to as Derby County have been eager to let him go on a free transfer
and dump his salary. I just received word from a reliable source that Feilhaber is

Michael Orozco's elbow to Solomon Okoronkwo's chest as the two grappled was picked up by the
German referee who gave Orozco marching orders. The US were reduced to ten men in the 4th
minute.
It was an ill advised foul which happened right in front of the referee and he was forced into
taking the more harsh option.
There have been rumors circulating today that Benny Feilhaber was close to a move back to the
states, in particular to join New England. I'm about to squash them. Steven Goff of the
Washington Post spoke with Feilhaber's agent, Lyle Yorks. Yorks had the following to say.
"He had his medical and, if all of the [.

U.S. Olympic team midfielder Benny Feilhaber has completed a move to Danish club AGF Aarhus,
leaving English club Derby County for his third European team in three seasons.
Yes, we were technically and tactically outclassed. Yes, we were blessed once again that los
tricolores just can't seem to convert any of their possession into goals from the run of play. Yes,
our set-piece defending was nothing short of miserable. Yes, some of our young guys looked to be a
bit in awe of the occasion and the crowd.
US international and Derby County benchwarmer Benny Feilhaber is not going to Houston. Although the
midfielder is interested in a possible loan deal to a MLS club, the Dynamo will not be his team of
choice.
This should come as no surprise as Houston already has more midfielders then they know what to do
with.
Here's the funny thing about last night: we won the game. By that I mean, we have won games in the
past - e.g. by the means of scoring at least one more goal than the other team - but the remarkable
thing about last night was that we won. And this was [...]
Rudd Gullit's comments last month on the quality of players coming out of the college game got the
ball rolling, but Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at the hands of England has added fuel (i.e., more
empirical evidence) to the debate. The latest to address the issue of player development (aside
from me, of course) is Jeff Carlisle at ESPNsoccernet.

The U.S. men's Olympic team fell, 1-0, to Cameroon on Sunday in Hong Kong. A first-half penalty
kick goal proved to be the difference for the Africans.
Here is the lineup the Americans trotted out against Cameroon:
--------------McBride-------------Altidore------------------
Rogers--------Holden------------Bradley------------ Kljestan
Orozco----------Edu---------Parkhurst---------------Wynne
------------------------Guzan------------------------------------
Freddy Adu came on for Altidore in the 64th minute.
Memo to the Galaxy: U.S. Men's Olympic Coach Peter Nowak is now available.
The U.S. played with 10 men for 87 minutes, saw Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan score an
88th minute penalty and Benny Feilhaber hit the post in second half stoppage time, but it wasn't
enough as Nigeria beat the U.

U.S. Olympic team midfielder (and part-time karaoke singer) Benny Feilhaber is in talks with
Major League Soccer about a move that could land him in the league with the New England

Good afternoon everybody. It is time to start answering some of the questions you sent my way
recently in the latest Q&A. I will be breaking up the Q&A into four segments, starting with
today's.
He might not be playing much for Derby, but they are sticking with him after rejecting Israeli side
Maccabi Tel Aviv's offer for the midfielder. In the end, Derby just didn't think the club's offer
was equal to Feilhaber's value. The reported offer was £275,000, or more then £700,000 less then
the club paid for him five months ago.
Jozy Altidore meets the Nigerians
A big day in US soccer as the men's national team take on the Nigerians, the 1996 Olympic
winners. A win or a draw should see them through the quarterfinals. They had a golden opportunity
to seal the deal against the Netherlands but were undone by a 93rd minute equalizer by Gerald
Sibon.
Just when things look like they can happen, they take a turn. Steve Goff is reporting this evening
that US National team midfielder Benny Feilhaber will not be joining MLS with New England but will
indeed be signing on with Danish side Aarhus. "He had his medical and, if all of the final
details are agreed, he [.
A couple people are posting the U.S. roster that was called in to play Mexico this Wednesday - and
at least one person is playing "the roster game" (and having a couple bites at as he does it). On
the other side of the affair, Sideline Views' Luis Bueno listed Mexico's traveling party and [...]
With smart overage call-ups Brian McBride, Brad Guzan and Michael Parkhurst
the U.S. Olympic doesn't look horrible.
Goalkeepers: Guzan, Chris Seitz.
Defenders: Patrick Ianni, Michael Orozco, Parkhurst, Nathan Sturgis, Marvell Wynne.
Midfielders: Freddy Adu, Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, Stuart Holden, Sacha
Kljestan, Danny Szetela, Robbie Rogers.
U.S. Olympic team midfielder Benny Feilhaber has completed a move to Danish club AGF Aarhus,
leaving English club Derby County for his third European team in three seasons. The move means he
will not be signing with Major League Soccer and the New England Revolution. This just shows in the
end the league could not compete [.
U-G-L-Y, You ain't got no alibi! You ugly!Good God, that was not pleasing on the eyes, now was it?
The US eases to a 2-0 victory on the back of a scrappy corner kick goal (Eddie Robinson for target
man!) and a Donovan penalty (please, please, please stop with the kissing already!) In the process,
Donovan becomes the USA's all-time leading scorer, despite looking only half-interested for most of
The biggest crowd of the year so far for a Chivas USA home game - 24,143 - saw a 2-0 win by the
hosts Thursday over the Chicago Fire that was thoroughly entertaining to watch.
Actually, it was fun to ask (most of) the participants questions about it too, although Chicago
players were obviously not happy.
Courtesy of my dude Connor, it's the video you've all been waiting for; Benny Feilhaber sings the
hits of Jordin Sparks. You sir are no American Idol, but hey maybe that's a good thing because
those kids all have nose-divish career trajectories. Where are Big Ruben, Clay Aiken, and that one
kid with the Sideshow Bob haircut now?
With his one-time shoe-string shot to give the team a 1-0 lead, I could have sworn I was watching
Benny Olsen. Or maybe Benny Feilhaber. But definitely somebody named Benny. Nope, it was Joe Vide.
That goal really made me wish I was listening to Dave Johnson and Thomas Rongen do the broadcast. I
could just hear Rongen saying his usual "Shoelaces.

The bottom feeders of this season's Premier League are under American ownership as Derby County
chairman Adam Pearson has managed to find new investors for the club.
Although the new faces are, at this point, unnamed, the article does mention that "the group were
previously involved in talks with a takeover of Manchester City, only to lose out to Thaksin
Shinawatra.
