Some might argue that one of the biggest problems to have hamstrung Liverpool's progress
is that no one really knows where they fit in to the team.
Big money offer comes in for one of Rafa's prized assets as another is offered a new

Manchester City prepare £100m summer move for Liverpool striker Torres
The People have sensationally claimed this morning that Manchester City are preparing a
sensational summer move for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres .
Fernando Torres will become the world's most expensive footballer if he leaves Liverpool in the
summer.
Manchester City and Chelsea have made Torres their number one target but would have to splash out
more than £140m in transfer fees and wages to land the Spanish superstar.
Not only has Torres' value eclipsed the £80m Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo, he can
anticipate a salary offer of around £15m a year given the current inflated levels for the most
wanted players.
After his recent Twitter rant about being left out of Liverpool's squad for last weekend's
draw with Stoke, Ryan Babel has taken it upon himself to apologize to Rafa Benitez in order to get
back in the manager's good graces. The following is a transcript of that apology.

Jose Mourinho is once again lining up a sensational bid for Liverpool's £40m-rated
talisman Steven Gerrard.
Birmingham City continued their fine season with an excellent victory at Goodison Park. Goals
from Cristian Benitez and Barry Ferguson gave Alex McLeish's side a two goal lead that they held
onto until Leon Osman grabbed one back for Everton but the St Andrews' side held on to make it to
round five of the FA Cup.

What craftsmanship!
Juventus want Rafa Benitez to replace current gaffer Ciro Ferrara (Ferrara
was a great foot soldier in his playing career but he has been found wanting as a head coach).
Rafa's agent, Manuel Quilon, refused to rule out a move to Italy for his client:

Some of these fall into the "if money was no object category" and others are more realistic and
do not require us to spend money we don't have, ala Portsmouth, and hell some wouldn't cost a penny
(if we ask nicely)!
There's no doubt about it, Steven Gerrard is a class player for club and country. His form is
consistently excellent and he has grabbed Liverpool by the scruff of the neck to win matches which
seemed lost on countless occasions. But perhaps, this is a season too far for the midfield maestro
amid concerns his recent fitness and form for Liverpool.
Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Kenwyne Jones & Emile Heskey during
this transfer window; but who do you think Rafa Benitez should try and sign? We'd all like to see
David Villa lining up alongside Torres; but realistically it's never going to happen. Who do you
think should be our number 1 [.
Rafa Benitez is a Dead Man Walking. The only thing that's saving him from the
sack is the fact that Liverpool do not have enough money to pay out his contract and hire
a decent replacement. Otherwise, he would have been axed the second after Liverpool were
dumped out of the FA Cup by Reading.
Editor's Note: Ed from Liverpool Offside and I exchange emails about Rafa Benitez in an
attempt to come to some sort of conclusion about his time at Liverpool. The posts will appear both
here and at Liverpool Offside. Today we're running Ed's intro and our opening statements. Part I
will probably be up tomorrow, as there's no Liverpool game until Tuesday.
The Chicago Fire reconstruction project has already brought the Fire new additions Julio
Martinez and Krzysztof Krol (as well as head coach Carlos De Los Cobos), but now Chicago could be
moving closer to adding a new striker.
Former Fulham striker Collins John is set to join the Chicago Fire on a trial during the club's
training camp in Phoenix, sources told SBI on Friday.
The away section at Villa Park on Tuesday evening was, not surprisingly, a noisy, joyful place
after Fernando Torres scored a goal of huge magnitude.
But while the hymn that is dedicated to him was sung long and loud, with plenty of bouncing, he
wasn't the only Liverpool player to be feted in verse by the travelling contingent – the identity
of the man in question, though, may come as a surprise.
Rafa Benitez remains optimistic for the New Year despite seeing Liverpool FC held to an FA Cup draw
at Reading.
The Spaniard's side must replay their third round tie at Anfield on Wednesday week after a 1-1 draw
on Saturday at the Championship strugglers.
Wales international Simon Church gave Reading a 24th-minute lead only for Steven Gerrard to
equalise 12 minutes later.
Liverpool have joined the race to sign Girondins de Bordeaux's highly-rated striker Marouane
Chamakh, according to a report from The Times.
The Moroccan international has frequently been identified in the media as a long-term target for
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, and was said to have been the subject of an offer from the Gunners
last summer.
Latest transfer rumours suggest that young Moroccan International Maroune Chamakh may be on his way
to Anfield.
The Bordeaux striker had previously stated that he was happy to stay in France with their large
Moroccan Community but it now seems that Liverpool are in advanced talks with his agent to bring
him to Liverpool for around £8 million.

Liverpool right-back Philipp Degen is set to leave Anfield this month, with Bundesliga outfit VfB
Stuttgart leading the race for his signature, according to a report from The Times.
Several other German clubs are also believed to be interested in the 26-year-old Swiss, who has
never managed to become a regular in manager Rafa Benitez's first team plans since joining on a
free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2008.

Liverpool have attempted to steal a march on their rivals by offering a pre-contract agreement
to Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, who has found himself to be somewhat of a

does rafa wants to make sure that adam sandler can play against us?
It's a conspiracy! The voice of a thousand Spurs fans around the country shout at once at the
news that Liverpool are moving to postpone Sunday's game because there's a bit of snow around the
ground. Whilst it's not necessarily the fact that if we had beat them they'd pretty much be done
like a Christmas turkey; there's also the fact that the arrival of Maxi Rodriguez is imminent at
Anfield, but maybe not quite in time for the showdown.
The next four months are the biggest in Liverpool's history.
The implications if we don't get into the Champions League are massive.
If we don't finish in the top four it will be very difficult to attract top players and we might
struggle to hold on to our key stars.
This really is a pivotal time for the club.
Rafa Benitez is desperate to improve Liverpool's defensive record but he accepts his side have come
a long way following early-season problems.
The Reds have kept successive cleansheets in the league following a concerted effort to return to
the defensive meanness of last term.
However, Benitez thinks there is still room for improvement.
Liverpool are confident that a money row between Maxi Rodriguez and Atletico Madrid will not derail
the Argentine's £1.2 million move to Anfield.
Manager Rafa Benitez has agreed a fee with the Spanish club and Rodriguez has accepted the terms of
an 18-month contract.
But the 29-year-old midfielder's arrival has been put in doubt by a stand-off with Atletico.
Rafa Benitez is bracing himself for the biggest battle of his life – holding on to his big-name
stars if Liverpool's season ends in disaster.
The Kop boss is only too aware that mind-blowing bids will be slammed down hard on the American
owners' boardroom table for his own elite top four – Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina
and Javier Mascherano.
Tom Hicks Jr. has apologised to a Liverpool supporter after he was accused of sending an abusive
email.
The Dallas based Liverpool director and son of co-owner Tom Hicks Senior was contacted by Stephen
Horner, a concerned fan, who emailed him an extract of a Liverpool Echo article published this
weekend.
A number of Premier League clubs have been alerted by the much publicized fall-out between Jeremy
Menez and his manager Claudio Ranieri at Roma. The French star is highly-rated but has never
fulfilled his early promise shown at Sochaux and Monaco. However, Menez is still only 22-years-old
and there are a number of Premier League clubs eyeing a potential move with Liverpool the team
named as leading the chase in the Italian press.
It's a new week, and in case you were in need of your fill of transfer news and rumors after a
weekend that was light on the football (no thanks to the weather), we're here to help stuff you to
the brim with a big batch of Monday transfer tidbits.
From a possible swap deal to kill two birds with one stone for Liverpool, to Portsmouth trying
to once again succeed with their buy low, sell high method of business, to a Scottish swoop into
the Swedish league, you won't have any reason to be hungry for more after you're done with today's
transfer roundup.
Liverpool have completed the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Maxi Rodriguez on a free
transfer, the club has confirmed on their official website.
The 29-year-old Argentine winger has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the club after
completing a medical on Merseyside today, and the move will be confirmed subject to international
clearance.

Fernando Torres has suggested that Liverpool needs to start throwing some cash around to bring
in better talent and get Liverpool on even footing with teams like Chelsea and ManU.
It appears that Torres feels like Rafa Benitez has been held back by the lack of "players" on
the club and that everyone involved would benefit from a fresh infusion of cash talent.
In a difficult week for Liverpool, which say the team crash out of the FA Cup to lowly Reading,
fans have taken a crumb of comfort from the one piece of good news to come out of Anfield.
Maxi Rodriguez sealed his free transfer from Atletico Madrid on Wednesday afternoon, after
completing a medical on Merseyside.
Anfield needs a new manager....and quickly!

Well the simple answer is no, but let me expand on this so as to at least make it worthwhile for
fellow Liverpool fans to appreciate. I used to be an "In Rafa We Trust" kind of guy but after a
large amount of time trying to maintain that stance I am finding it next to impossible to continue
to do so and therefore I got to thinking about how things could theoretically pan out should the
Spaniard be pushed or if he chose to jump (very unlikely considering the large sums of money he
would be due if he was sacked just a short way into a long term deal).
With Liverpool languishing in lowly seventh, things are certainly looking gloomy over at
Anfield. Not a day goes by without fresh reports surfacing from the press about the imminent sale
of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. Who can blame them? Liverpool is ripe for the picking at the
moment with the talk of a new manager, nonexistent transfer funds, mounting debt, and a divided
board room all casting the club in a highly precarious light.
After promising us a top four finish is there really any reason to call for an Anfield
sacking?

Like all Liverpool fans, I have been bitterly disappointed by this season.
Guus Hiddink's agent last night suggested he had been approached by Liverpool.
The claim would cast serious doubts over the future of beleaguered Anfield manager Rafa
Benitez.
Cees van Nieuwenhuizen confirmed that Turkey were interested in appointing former Chelsea manager,
but said they were just one of nine suitors for his client.
It has been an unfamiliar feeling for Liverpool fans to wake up this winter with optimism coarsing
through their veins. The Reds' Christmas was pretty much cancelled by their travails at home and in
Europe, with their early exit from the Champions League and FA Cup supplemented by a miserable
start to the Premier League campaign.
Rafa Benitez hopes the victory over Tottenham will act as a springboard for Liverpool to go on a
winning run.
The Reds have received fierce criticism for a disappointing sequence of results this season, while
their cause has not been helped by injuries to key players such as Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres
and Glen Johnson.
