Paul Scholes is hoping Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't retire any time soon as he believes having the
stability of one manager can ensure silverware.
"His record speaks for itself," said Scholes. "Twenty-three years is a long time
and, hopefully, he can continue to be here and win trophies for a long time to come.

Man United manager and midfielder
Paul
Scholes hopes he will be at Old Trafford for many years to come. Sir Alex was sent to retire at
the end of the 2001/02 Premier League season but that was called off.
There have been a few rumour suggesting that Sir Alex may retire at the end of this season but I
don't think that will happen.

When the United States originally set up this Wednesday's friendly against Denmark, it was thought
that the encounter would provide a fair assessment of where the Americans stood in comparison to
another World Cup contestant. The chance to look at some fringe members of the team was also a
benefit.

With his contract expiring next summer, Fabio Aurelio is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with
another other club in January. Rafa Benitez reportedly wants Liverpool to renew Aurelio's contract,
but what has the Brazilian actually done in his time at the club to deserve this?
The plain fact is this: Aurelio (aka Mr Glass) is injury prone.

Rafa Benitez has admitted that Fernando Torres is carrying a hernia injury. Given the consequences
of aggravating that injury, should Torres be rested against Lyon to avoid a longer-term
problem...or should Rafa take a risk and play him anyway?
Yesterday, Benitez had this to say about Torres' injury:
"We know Fernando has a [hernia] problem, and we have to manage it.

When Don Garber finally assented to allowing the Chivas USA franchise to call Los Angeles its
home in 2004, it was a sacrifice. The MLS cares about geographic expansion, and was looking to
grow into Canada, the Northwest, and back into Florida. Adding a team into a well-established
market, and have that team plant itself at the Home Depot Center was not part of the long-term
plan.

Michael Owen scored his third goal of the season against Barnsley this week and has enjoyed a
good scoring rate for us so far.
Mike Phelan has today talked of the options we have up front, whether we play Owen in the cups,
whether he's a sub, or if he's in the starting XI.
"Michael has come to Manchester United as it a fresh challenge for him," said
Phelan.

There aren't many players in MLS more versatile than Geoff Cameron, and this year, there were no
defenders who were better.
When Houston's defense reached a critical moment of transition, Dynamo head coach Dom Kinnear
turned to Cameron to help anchor the back-line early in the season and all Cameron did was respond
with dominant form few could have expected from the 2008 Rookie of the Year candidate.

This week's Video Of The Week is "Heading For Glory", the official film of the 1974 World Cup
Finals in West Germany. There was no English presence (although with the benefit of hindsight there
was no disgrace in being knocked out by a Polish side that didn't get a million miles from reaching
the final of the competition), but Scotland began their four-yearly routine of almost getting to
the Second Round of the competition, the Dutch fielded possibly the best ever international team to
not win a World Cup, East Germany met West Germany for the only time (and beat them) and
Gerd Muller eventually won the tournament fof the host nation.

Do excuse me while I momentarily don my England hat: this missive, from one of the souls
frequently to be found loitering around AANP Towers, appeared on football365.com earlier today:
Whatever the rights and wrongs of Rio's concentration lapse, the curious manner in which Green
was sent off, the withdrawal of Lennon and the fact that we lost, it strikes me as far more useful
than if we'd played with 11 and coasted to a comfy victory.

Hello people, hope your enjoying your weekend thus far, and are anticipating a good win over
Blackburn tomorrow. I think the team is performing well but we have to be consistent this season
which wasn't the case last season, to the point where we had so many 0-0 draws in a row it was
unbelievable.

10 years. In that time we only scored a total of 4 goals to their 80 goals!

Time added on... and on... and on "Historically it has happened before. I was in teams here where

City boss Mark Hughes has demanded an explanation from the referee after United striker
Michael Owen settled the Manchester derby in the 96th minute.
Substitute Owen slotted past Shay Given to seal a thrilling 4-3 win for United, despite the fourth
official having indicated just four extra minutes.

Afternoon guys, I can actually type which makes quite a change today.
It has literally just been announced that Adebayor has been hit with two FA charges, one for his
stamp on van Persie, the other being his celebration.
He is fast heading for a six match ban, personally, I would add another couple of games onto the
ban for City's ridiculous defence of him.

PSM Makassar are following the lead of Persib and applying themselves seriously to the thought of
merchandising. They will patent their logo and produce a range of products that will be licensed by
them.
Small traders, those beneath 5' 6'', will be encouraged to work with the club and come to some kind
of profit sharing agreement.

If there was one element of our new 4-3-3 formation that nobody had predicted at the start of
the season it was the use of Robin Van Persie as the central striker and Nicholas Bendtner as a
right sided forward. I'm sure that for many gooners, like myself, this was unfathomable; it just
literally never crossed my mind that Wenger might play like this.

The most glib response that one can give to the issue of football hooliganism is to say that it
has simply gone away for good. Anybody that regularly goes to matches will know fully well that it
is constantly there, bubbling away under the surface and waiting for an opportunity to raise its
head. As clubs, the game's authorities and the police themselves are often more than eager to tell
us, the success that has been had in tackling the issue in and around stadia - the area in which
there is no dispute that clubs have to take responsibility for the behaviour of those claiming to
support the clubs - has been largely due to more sophisticated stewarding and policing methods.

The English Premier League season is set to kick off on Saturday and this could be the most
wide-open race for the title in recent memory, with as many as six or seven teams honestly
believing they could win the trophy.
Who do I see winning the league? It's hard to pick against Chelsea.

The news that Melbourne Victory are set to bid for a Super 15 Rugby Union licence makes so much

AFL and Football should create two teams, one club in West Sydney, and of course the Brumbies one
of the countries smartest business teams are missing a huge opportunity by not bidding for the
A-League4Canberra licence.

to the Salary cap.
