Ok, before getting into the match analysis I just want to congratulate Blackburn Rovers and
Steve Kean. They worked hard, took whatever came their way, and fully deserve to move up from the
bottom of the table.
Now let's get on with Arsenal. What does one say after a performance like that?
After surviving the shock of falling a goal behind to their League Two opponents, struggling
Arsenalcame back to beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1 and comfortably progress into the fourth round of
the Carling Cup at the Emirates Stadium.
The visitors stunned the Emirates crowd after 16 minutes when James Collins's bullet header beat
Lukasz Fabianski, and a major upset looked to be possible.

Arsenal's defence at full stretch
Three points in the bag. Move up to 11th in the league (still early days to consider any
significance of the table). No injuries suffered during the game. No red card accrued during the 90
minutes. Andrey Arshavin opened his accounts for the season and another clean sheet kept by
Wojciech Szczesny (not that it was his effort alone, those in front of him helped of course).

a look at an "unpopular" (by fantasy ownership terms) or out of form Premier League footballer that

It'd be hard to find many teams that have had a more difficult start to the season than the
Gunners. But few will argue that the next club to host Arsenal isn't facing desperate times.
As a Gooner one can sympathize with another club that is looking to do things the right way. The
new owners don't seem to be very popular amongst the Ewood Park faithful but won my approval when
they sacked Fat Sam.
When it was first announced, not many would have thought an Arsenal V Shrewsbury tie in the
third round of the Carling Cup will take on such significance. I shudder at the thought of
elimination but given the recent form, and with the team finding new ways of gifting goals, it's
not too hard to imagine.
Yossi Benayoun has joined the new recruits at Arsenal and inists he is happy to move to the

Transfer Rumors: Last-Minute Deals Galore On Deadline Day - originally posted on

So, we've made it to the end of yet another wild summer transfer window. Here's hoping that your
favorite side made the additions that you hoped they would, or just as importantly, didn't subtract
anyone of great importance without failing to find a proper replacement.
They're up for grabs now! Wenger, right at the end. An unbelievable climax to the
transfer window
I can safely say I can't recall the like. What began with the low of an abject eight-goal
capitulation at Old Trafford has ended with the high of five new faces to bolster the ranks.
That was a very strange few days. We spend years carefully, slowly building squads, with obscure
players brought in from far and wide, punctuated with highly profitable sales. This modus operandi
became familiar to all of us. But in this transfer window, that has all been ripped up, culminating
in an insane final evening yesterday.
Well the transfer window closed last night and unlike windows of the past, Arsenal were doing
business all the way until it slammed shut. Four players were confirmed last night as having
signed, with Park announced the day before. It was clear from the start of the season that Wenger
had to act to change our fortunes and only time will tell if Le Professor has bought correctly.
By Phil Gregory Well, that was one hell of a deadline day for Arsenal fans, and it brings to a
close our summer of transfer activity which has resulted in six additions. Those are, of course:
Mertesacker Jenkinson Santos Arteta Benayoun Campbell Gervinho Oxlade-Chamberlain Young Park You
could also potentially include Miyiachi onto that list [.
It has been revealed that Yossi Benayoun could have returned to Liverpool but decided to snub his
old club and go on loan at Arsenal last night. The 31-year-old failed to make an impact at Chelsea
in his two seasons at Stamford Bridge and was expected to make a loan move back to Liverpool until
[...]
Ordinarily, I avoid the superficial, Sky induced hype of Deadline Day in the same manner that
I'd give a live railway line a wide berth. The gurning, buckteeth boys leering swearily behind Sky
reporters (shouldn't you unruly yoots be looting JD Sports or something?), the strains of Jim White
unloading his cargo as Jimmy McJourneyman completes his lucrative loan move to Hamilton
Academicals.
New Arsenal signing Yossi Benayoun is relishing the challenge ahead at the Emirates.
Aaron Ramsey has hailed the signings of Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun to bolster the Arsenal
midfield.
The heavy defeat against Manchester United in their last league game simply puts tons of
pressure for Arsenal, especially to their experienced tactician, Arsene Wenger, as the Frenchman
was very busy in the final days of the transfer market acquiring several names including adding
experienced names in the final day.
So, the unmistakeable chimes of Big Ben bring the craziest few months
an Arsenal fan has ever had to endure to a close. We have lost our club captain, we have lost last
seasons best player, and we have been humiliated 8-2 by Man United, yet, with that big bell still
ringing in my ear (insert your own joke!

Former Arsenal player Frank McLintock is not impressed with the new acquisitions this transfer
period. The Gunners have added Gervinho, Park Chu Young, Santos, Arteta, Benayoun and Mertesacker
to the squad but McLintock doesn't think those players are up to scratch. Speaking to TalkSport
Radio he said: "I'm not impressed with the names, I hope [.
How did our lads fare in the recent spate of meaningless important Internationals?
Well, first up was our shiny, new striker from Korea, Mr Young, who opened the week with a
hatrick., and a fine one at that. The first being a quick run behind the last defender and a
powerful volley. The second, a towering header from a corner (watch and learn Chamakh) and for the
third he received the ball in the Theo position then struck a firm drive past the beleaguered
Lebanese keeper.
Jack Wilshere reckons Arsenal must win a trophy this season to prove they are the next best
thing to Champions League winners Barcelona. Gunners midfielder reckons it is "unthinkable" that
Arsene Wenger's outfit don't finish in the Premier League top four despite a torrid start to the
campaign.
Theo Walcott admits he was shocked by Arsene Wenger's mad scramble for players to take to
Arsenal as the transfer window deadline approached.
Walcott has five new team-mates to meet in Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Andre Santos, Park
Chu-young and Per Mertesacker when the team returns from international duty on Wednesday.

Wilshere injury blow for Gunners | News: Well, I guess we know how Arteta's playing time is going
to look for at least the next three months. Looks like the big question is how Ramsey and Benayoun
divide the time next to the Spaniard. It is definitely going to be an interesting few months until
January for Arsenal.
Good morning from a wild and windy Dublin. I think summer, such as it was, is now well and truly
gone.
There's gloomy news to start with this morning involving Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian is set to
miss two months having undergone ankle surgery in Stockholm early this week. He picked up a knock
away to Udinese and although Arsene Wenger was hopeful he might play against United at Old Trafford
things have taken a very obvious turn for the worse.
Hammer blow, Devastating injury blow, Major blow. Just three ways to cook the same story, namely
Vermaelen's latest crock. It's an injury that has rocked us, added to our woes and amounts to
nothing less than a KO. Well, so we're told. Maybe it's not that bad though? He's off school for
another month, and should be back in six weeks.

The news that Jack Wilshere could be out for another 8 weeks started the usual he said she said
between Fabio Capello and the club. From a fan's perspective it really makes no difference.
The fact is Wilshere is not coming back till early November at the earliest with the caveat that
these predictions are not exact science so his return could be delayed even further.

Arsenal vs Swansea from the Emirates Stadium, London
So many question marks heading into this one for Arsenal. Will their new signings work out? Of
course the answer to that will take some time, and we'll see over the course of the season, not
just one game.
3 points. That's all that matters.
Arsenal, post-Transfer Deadline Mania, got the chance to get the new season truly rolling when
newly promoted Swansea came to the Emirates to play some football. It was a day to put a horrific
August behind us, as well as showing off our new signings on the pitch for the first time- today,
Arteta, Benayoun and Mertesacker were handed their first Arsenal starts.
Arsenal 1-0 Swansea
Back in the good old days, going one up at Highbury meant you could exhale and start enjoying the
afternoon. You might not get much more entertainment but you could be pretty confident that you'd
get the win.
No use comparing eras though: times have changed.
Arsene Wenger was very happy with the way newly transferred Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta and Yossi
Benayoun played their debuts in an Arsenal shirt. Arsenal started the game with two of the players
signed in the last days of the transfer season. Per Mertesacker and Mikel Arteta went on the pitch
from the first minute, [.
Arsenal conceded a late equaliser as they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw against Borussia
Dortmund in their opening Champions League Group F clash at the Westfalenstadion.
The German champions dominated the possession in the first half but Van Persie rounded off a
42nd-minute move that he started to give Arsenal the lead against the run of play.
Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Bundesliga champions Dortmund. Van Persie scored the goal and
received a 9/10 from the Mirror Player Ratings. New signings Arteta and Benayoun were fairly
anonymous. Walcott picked up an assist in an ... Continue reading →
Arsenal's transfer deadline day signing Yossi Benayoun is convinced that the club's recent
results suggest significant improvement following the infamous 8-2 thumping at the hands of
Manchester United last month and has vowed to keep up the development.
Benayoun, who will spend this season at the Emirates on loan from London rivals Chelsea, made
his full debut against Borussia Dortmund in this midweek's Champions League encounter at Signal
Iduna Park and made a positive impression during the 1-1 draw.
Yossi Benayoun was just one of a host of players bought to Arsenal during the frantic final day of
the transfer window. He is confident that he, and the other new arrivals can help their new club
have a good season. He said, "We all know it wasn't the best start to the season. We [...]
If Arsene Wenger's men haven't been winning trophies in the last six years, at least they've
been doing it in style, right?. As an ardent Arsenal fan, I have always had faith in the club's
philosophy and the fluidity in which we play our football. Although many have more than criticised
the club for the empty trophy cabinet and the lack of summer spending, we have always received
heaps of praise for our entertaining football, even if it has become slightly patronising
recently.
