Liverpool was announced as a 4-4-1-1, but the formation looked like a 5-4-1 to me, with the
fullbacks often getting forward in support, in the first half.
I don't really know too much about either player that Liverpool and Everton signed on the transfer
deadline day, but I'll give my comments based upon what I've read.
Liverpool seemed to get the player they wanted in Albert Riera, a left winger who should provide a
lot of ammunition for Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane, and the rest of Liverpool's goal scorers.
Reports coming in of a deal done for Gareth Barry to move to Liverpool
At long, long, last it appears the Gareth Barry move to Liverpool has happened. Reports are
surfacing of Villa recieving 17.5 million plus Steve Finnan for Barry.
Rafael Benitez and all Liverpool fans will be pleased the longest running transfer saga of the
summer will now be over.
And I'm not talking about our performance. I'm referring to the onslaught of garbage the press is
force feeding the general public, most who didn't even see the match and won't look at the facts.
The truth is this was a no contest. The truth is Havant scored on a set-piece, which any club can
do against any other club no matter the differential in talent.
Aston Villa Midfielder Gareth Barry reported to join his partner in
England team Steven Gerrard in Liverpool. Liverpool have agreed an £18million transfer fee to
bring Barry to Anfield over the next 24 hours. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez plans to pair Barry
with Steven Gerrard in the centre of midfield - a partnership that has proved successful for
England.

These games are not doing my heart any good. Four games into the season, and the earliest goal
Liverpool's scored has come in the 83rd minute. And Kuyt striking the winner after suffering a ton
of stick makes it even sweeter.
Well, we wanted a winger, especially with Benayoun's sub-standard performances on the left in the
past few games. Now Liverpool's close to finalizing a deal for Albert Riera, an out-and-out left
winger, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms. The Liverpool Echo reports the fee's
"in excess of £8m," which is a steal compared to Espanyol's previous demand that any
club meet Riera's buy-out clause, which is £16m.
Many people have tipped Liverpool for this seasons Premier League title, but in this post I will
outline the main reasons why these people are quite simply wrong. It seems as though every
July/August many pundits and fans alike tip Liverpool for the title and every May they are left
with pie on their faces.
The Manchester Evening News reckons Liverpool wide-man Yossi Benayoun is wanted by Mark Hughes at
Man City. The former Blackburn boss has reportedly targeted Benayoun as part of his rebuilding
plans at Eastlands. Although there's been a few mutterings that Benayoun could be surplus to
requirements at Anfield since the start of the silly season, this [.

Finally. And what a way to do it.
United made a dream start, with early pressure leading to a Tevez goal within three minutes when
Berbatov beat two men to the byline and was able to cut back to Tevez (Mascherano failed to follow
him into the box).
Liverpool have today finally beaten Manchester United at Anfield today after seven years without a
victory against the Premier League Champions. The Merseyside giants came into today's game unbeaten
in the Premier League along with their rivals, but were desperate to secure three points after
several years without a victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
Although Yossi Benayoun is keen on fighting for his Liverpool future, he could be moving elsewhere
to make sure of his share of the action – perhaps even to the Netherlands.
De Telegraaf newspaper reports today that Ajax are keeping an eye on the Israeli international,
whom the English giants spent a reported 7.
Rafael Benitez ran the rule over Liverpool's supporting cast while
his mind was no doubt buzzing with ways of raising the money to complete deals for Gareth Barry and
Robbie Keane.
The Liverpool manager admits he has to wheel and deal to do that - but he has raised almost
£14million by moving on Peter Crouch and Danny Guthrie this week.

Football News: The Yossi's not for turning
Latest FOOTBALL NEWS has it that Yossi Benayoun has been told he will not be sold - despite
constant speculation linking him with a move away from Anfield.
In todays football news from the tabloids the Israeli midfielder was again linked with a move to
Roma, the Italian club seeing him as one of their main transfer targets for this summer.
Andriy Voronin scored at the death to give Liverpool a 1-0 win over SS Lazio at Anfield in their
last pre-season friendly.
The kick-off of Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Lazio tonight was delayed until 20:15
because of ticketing problems.
New signings Robbie Keane and Andrea Dossena were making their Anfield debuts against Lazio, with
Pepe Reina and Damien Plessis returning to the starting XI in place of Diego Cavalieri and injured
captain Steven Gerrard.
If Liverpool fans have dreams of winning the Premier League this season, they can kiss them
goodbye. Today at Anfield, Liverpool escaped with a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough with a woeful
performance that was rescued by an own goal and then an injury time goal by Steven Gerrard.
This was a cruel blow to Middlesbrough who played a strong defensive game for most of the match
under a 4-5-1 formation.
Some would agree that this was an absolute borefest while others would not. Martin O'Neil and
Rafa didn't get into a scrap and Barry didn't cry so it was definitely not the grudge match we were
hoping for. For me, the game pretty much ended when Torres came out with a pulled hamstring because
at that point the attack threat was gone.

Benitez has ruled out both Lucas and Mascherano, with this game coming too soon after their return
from the Olympics, but hopes they'll be back for Sunday.
TEAMtalk's Graham Shaw feels Rafael Benitez needs to show more ambition in the transfer market if
Liverpool are to be serious title contenders.
Eighteen years, and the wait goes on. The title drought on Merseyside shows no sign of ending just
yet.
We're already hearing the annual 'this is our year' proclamations from Steven Gerrard, Jamie
Carragher and co.
With Peter Crouch on the verge of rejoining Pompey and Xabi Alonso's future still very much up in
the air, one player who won't be leaving Anfield this summer is Yossi Benayoun. Why? Because Rafa

Yossi Benayoun says he is determined to stay at Liverpool – because manager Rafael Benitez
"loves" him.
Manchester City and Tottenham are both keen to recruit the Israeli international midfielder, but
Benayoun believes there is no chance of Liverpool cashing in on him.
He said: "Even before the season ended, we determined that I would be staying.

Rafael Benitez insists he will successfully complete some major Liverpool signings in the coming

I previously wrote about how much I hated the Olympics and what they do to football, but after
signing Keane, I'm suddenly not as worried. Keane can easily slip into a wing position and we can
cover Mascherano's position with the current roster. If Barry were to sign on soon, it would be
even easier.
Bundesliga outfit Hamburg are reportedly unwilling to match
£16m valuation of Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt.
With captain Steven Gerrard injured, the Reds, who have earlier failed in four separate bids for
Aston Villa's £18m-rated experienced centre-midfielder Gareth Barry, are looking keen to raise
funds to make a successful move for the England international, but their effort to sell the Holland
international, Kuyt has reportedly come to naught.

Even with the awful display on Wednesday, I expect Gerrard for Plessis to be the only change.

The striker, scorer of the winning goal in this year's European Championships final, was anonymous
for much of the evening as his partnership with £20m new boy Robbie Keane continued to
stutter, but he produced a vicious drive eight minutes from time to claim the points.

In my guess at a squad, I'm assuming Gerrard and Torres are fit enough to start, although, like
over the weekend, it'll be a late decision.
There have been many critics of Jermaine Pennat – a good portion of them Liverpool fans
– yet I have always failed to understand the reason for all the negativity. I appreciate that
he's probably not good enough, or at least not consistent enough, to be playing each week for a
team with title ambitions but, as a squad player, he isn't a bad option.
And I'm not talking about our performance. I'm referring to the onslaught of garbage the press is
