WASHINGTON - After 17 months of anticipation, Charlie Davies' return to top-flight action was,
in one way, anticlimactic.
Having not played a first-team minute since suffering life-threatening injuries in a horrific
October 2009 car accident near Washington, Davies pulled off his warm ups and prepared to enter
D.
The dust has settled and the equipment has been removed from the Baltimore Convention Center.
The 2011 MLS Draft is in the book and let's turn to the experts to see how the other teams in the
league did. For now we'll focus on the Eastern Conference.

Saturday's USMNT draw with Chile served a few purposes. Most of them involved Bob Bradley and his
nonstop need to evaluate, cull, and refine the National Team talent pool, with an eye towards
meaningful competition this year and the 2014 World Cup well down the road. We can only hope that
Bradley and his staff gained useful insight with what happened at the Home Depot Center; at the
very least several players stood out, causing every armchair analyst from here to Anchorage to draw
conclusions as to who should remain in the picture and whose name should be marked out with
permanent ink.

Charlie Davies just made it a bit harder for D.C. United to say no to a loan deal. Davies scored
and provided an assist to Joseph Ngwenya in United's 5-1 victory over the Canadian U-20s in Fort
Lauderdale. Even considering the competition, United can't ask much more of Davies than to spark
the offense when given the chance during his week-long evaluation period.

WASHINGTON - Moments after D.C. United's dismal 2010 campaign came to an end with a 3-2 loss to
Toronto FC in late October, then-interim coach Ben Olsen suggested that the club needed to inject
some new blood into its locker room, a sentiment made all the more pertinent by the departure of
captain Jaime Moreno, who played his final game in a D.

I love a four-day work week. Time just seems to go a little quicker with those kinds of weeks
doesn't it? For me, it also means I'm one week closer to my summer vacation (more on that next
week).
Well, we're at the weekend slate of MLS games here and once again everyone is in action.
WASHINGTON — D.C. United assistant coach Pat Onstad is coming out of retirement because the club
is in need of healthy goalkeepers. The team said Thursday that Onstad will begin working with the
team at training camp to prepare to play in the regular season. The 43-year-old Canadian was the
oldest player in MLS when [.

Up until and including the 1988 Seoul Games, the Olympic soccer tournament was an unrestricted

Oh, looky! Aitor Ocio and his stellar abs (and bad denim) are featured in a new Glamour ES
interview. What do you need to know? Aitor is a self-confessed flirt. That's the basic gist. He
also talks about his ex, Lara Sanchez and their daughter. If you don't live near an
internationally-stocked newsagent, we suggest you book a flight abroad and pick up a copy.

The possibility that Charlie Davies could spend the year on loan to DC United is a natural marriage
brought about by timing, the vagaries of the MLS allocation order system, and a shared need for
both to find redemption in 2011.
Charlie Davies wants to play, DC United could do with some positive press.
As an All- American standout who has seen success both as a Yank and in the European club
sphere, Charlie Davies has long since been on every MLS fan's list of Americans who need to come
back across the pond. Just as we all hope to see the likes of Jozy Altedore, Michael Bradly, and
perhaps even Freddy Adu back in MLS, Davies was a daydream of an MLS signing.

The first day of the Chad Ochocinco era in Kansas City wasn't exactly a smashing success.
The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver acknowledged he was behind the pace Wednesday as he began
his trial with Sporting Kansas City, telling reporters, "The only thing I'm probably good at is
just being fast as hell.
The Galaxy celebrates Mike Magee's 12th minute gol against DC United
Okay, let's just get this out of the way at the top: Charlie Davies dove like a
scuba professional searching for treasure in the Caribbean. He dove like the snout of a pig into
the muck of the forest on the search for truffles.

BOYDS, Md. - With an efficient attack and a defense that bent a bunch and broke just enough
times, the New England Revolution kept its hopes of making the U.S. Open Cup field of 40 alive.
With a tie against reigning MLS Champion Colorado, D.C. United salvaged 1pt. and currently sit 6th
in the Eastern Conference only 1pt. behind three other teams - New England, Columbus, and
Houston.

WASHINGTON - D.C. United coach Ben Olsen hasn't shied away from banking his team's fortunes on
the plethora of young talent at his disposal. During Saturday's 4-2 loss to the San Jose
Earthquakes, United experienced the highs and, more often, the lows of such a philosophy.
Steve Cherundolo celebrates with the RFK faithful on Oct. 14, 2009.The U.S. Men will be playing their 21st game at RFK Stadium on Sunday, the most of any venue other
than the Los Angeles Coliseum which has also hosted the MNT 21 times. The U.S. history there dates
to 1977, and the most recent appearance was a 2-2 tie with Costa Rica on Oct.
King Kenny: new manager, same woeful results
They say it's never too late to hash out your New Year's resolutions, but let's face it, I'm two
weeks late on this one. That said, I can't help but feeling a sense of familiarity surrounding the
early days of 2011. We kicked things off with another stunning FA Cup third round Leeds United
result (this time at Arsenal), much in the same manner as 2010.
STARTERSFrom DC United: Charlie Davies is in Florida with DC United.
-And a Q & A with head coach Ben Olsen on Davies, and early training camp.
STORY OF THE DAYKabir Chibber of the New York Times with an article on the big success that Stuart Holden is having
this season at Bolton in the English Premier League.
Good morning everyone. This week has been filled with reports from around the web on preseason
training with the occasional trade or loan rumor. The young guys are fighting for a spot on the
team while the veterans are fighting against the MLS salary cap. The transfer window closed across
much of Europe this week so the rumors will probably die down.

Bill Hamid may still be recovering from the shoulder injury that derailed his standout rookie
season with D.C. United in 2010, but that hasn't stopped him from setting lofty goals as he heads
into his second full season as a pro.
Fernando Torres takes a knock from Liverpool defender Daniel Agger.
I know I'm late on this one, but D.C. United preseason in Florida has been keeping me
very busy. That said, I was absolutely elated last Saturday when Fernando Torres turned
out at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea blue only for the men from Anfield Road to ruin his West London
debut.
It was announced today that, after weeks of training with the team, Charlie Davies has signed a
12-month loan to DC United from France's FC Sochaux. The 24 year old American striker spent the
past 16 months out of Sochaux's starting roster as he recovered from the December 2009 car crash
that cost him his spot in the 2010 World Cup, and which, incidentally, took place only miles from
what will be his new home at RFK Stadium.
Today's Ninth Annual United for D.C. Kickoff Luncheon is a great opportunity for fans and
sponsors alike to meet new players and staff, greet returning faces and hear from United Head Coach
Ben Olsen about the club and his thoughts on the season ahead. There's much to be excited about
ahead on D.

After weeks of speculation, Caleb Folan is finally a member of the Colorado Rapids.
The Irish international and former Hull City striker agreed to a deal with the defending MLS Cup
champions to improve the team's depth at forward, which will continue to grow when Mac Kandji
returns from his ACL injury.
United States U-20 national soccer team head coach Thomas Rongen unveiled his squad for CONCACAF
qualifying to the U-20 World Cup on Thursday, and it included two members of the Philadelphia
Union.
Midfielder Amobi Okugo and goalkeeper Zac MacMath have been summoned by Rongen to take part in
the 2011 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Guatemala, where the four semifinalists will qualify for
the 2011 Under-20 World Cup.
He may have come off the bench and he wasn't the player of the game, but the night belonged to
Charlie Davies. Just one goal was enough to make it an unforgettable night at RFK, but that would
have been too ordinary for Davies' story. There had to be something even more special than his
penalty conversion, it had to be two.

The D.C. United faithful can breathe a sigh of relief.
After suffering a knee injury that knocked him out of the closing minutes of United's 3-2 U.S.
Open Cup qualifying loss to New England on Tuesday, midfielder Branko Boskovic underwent an MRI on
Wednesday, and the results were negative, meaning the Montenegro international should be available
for D.

Sepp Blatter is going to be the president of FIFA for at least four more years.
Technically, he's running for office this year, but as is customary, he's running unopposed.
There are a wide variety of reasons why this is a bad thing, and the problems with Sepp have been
outlined in a variety of places by a variety of people.
"It's unbelievable — unbelievable. You have to come here and play to the field, but the
atmosphere is unbelievable. If you can step away and look at it from a league perspective — what
a great place, what a great environment, and what a great job the owner and the whole franchise
have done to create a great atmosphere.
