Manchester United are willing to listen to offers in the region of £4 million for
goalkeeper Ben Foster, according to reports in The Sunday Mail.
The pose that is now known as 'The Foster'
Manchester United have drawn up a stellar list of goalkeepers of whom they are to track as
possible replacements for Edwin Van Der Sar and Ben Foster.
Fiorentina's Sebastian Frey, Lyon's Hugo Lloris, Schalke 04's
Manuel Neuer, Celtic's Artur Boruc and Inter Milan's
Julio Cesar make up the five man shortlist with French shot stopper
'extraordinaire' Lloris said to be at the man at the top of the pile.
Fabio Capello's main headache is the lack of good English goalkeepers. Of the current top ten
clubs in the Premier League table, the only Englishman between the sticks is Birmingham City's
Joe Hart and he's only playing for Birmingham because he couldn't get a game for
Man City.
Happier times for United's central defenders
It's been injuries all season to
United's top defenders (Vidic, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Evans, Neville, Rafael, and Wes Brown have all
faced lengthy spells on the sidelines) but somehow Sir Alex Ferguson's men are still 2 points off
the top of the table, in second place.
Ben Foster had a howler against City in September, gifting them two goals with bad goalkeeping
errors. Strictly speaking, he wasn't helped by the United defence though, with the first goal
coming from a lack of communication between himself and Rio, the second goal coming from United
giving the ball away, and the third goal from Ferdinand ridiculously trying to chip the ball over
Bellamy's head at the half way line and failing.
After a busy set of festive fixtures thoughts will naturally drift towards New Year's Eve and a
look back at what 2009 did for us.
When picking a ‘team of the year' I naturally look at the winners for highlights. In England we
saw Manchester United win the Carling Cup (thanks to Ben Foster's Ipod!
Manchester United are back in action this weekend after the midweek postponement of the Carling
Cup semi-final. The F.A. Cup 3rd Round loss to Leeds United has been hard to swallow, with many of
the team in for harsh criticism, so expect two things against Birmingham later today. First, a
number of changes and second, the dreaded United backlash.
Dimitar sulked after the kitman refused to sew pockets into his shorts
Rumour No.1: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to put a
number of his star players up for sale in an attempt to rejuvenate his squad in the wake of a
number of stale performances this season, not least the toothless outing against Leeds last
week.
So its all agreed that we would all like to see new recruits this transfer window. The rumour mill
has been very quiet up to now but the gossip is starting to heighten on Benfica's Argentinian wing
wonder Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria has had two very impressive years playing in Portugal and making his full international
debut, with high praise from his manager Diego Maradona.

There are a number of reports this morning suggesting that David James could be
on the verge of making a surprise loan switch to Stoke City. The Portsmouth keeper
is eager to play regularly to secure a place in England's World Cup squad and Pompey are
desperate to partially remove James from their wage bill as the financial crisis at the club
deepens.
In a packed Saturday Premier League football evening, Liverpool will visit Stoke City and try to
win back some respect. After a string of losses and being knocked out of FA Cup by Reading, The
Reds are low on confidence but will still be the better side on paper. Though without Steven
Gerrard, Fernando Torres [.
According to Joe Bernstein at the Daily Mail, Sunderland and Stoke
City are both interested in Manchester United goalkeeper Ben
Foster. It is reported that Foster is available for around £4million after falling behind
goalkeepers Edwin Van der Sar and Tom Kuszczak.
safe hands?
Today it has come to light that we have had a bid rejected for Manchester United shotstopper Ben
Foster. Whilst this is certainly one of the more prudent moves that has been mooted this window,
completion of the move would cast into speculation the respective futures of our current
keepers.
According to ESPN Soccernet, Tottenham have not made a bid for
Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster. Tottenham boss
Harry Redknapp said,
"I have no idea where this story has come from because we have never made an offer for Ben
Foster, let alone had one rejected .
The Carling Cup semi final first leg is here, its Manchester United versus Manchester City, and
it promises to be a mouth-watering encounter. City are in decent form, whereas United are in a
crisis according to the media, but who will come out on top? Will Carlos Tevez score against his
former team?
