In the 90th minute of the game, i had a little strop. I threw a wobbly as we say over here. Id just
witnessed Rio Ferdinand, do the worst thing he had ever done in a United shirt and watched the
greyhound-like Bellamy race away to put the ball past the floundering Foster. I picked my [...]

Sir Alex is looking for an able replacement for when Edwin calls it a day.
Manchester United are eyeing up Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev as they prepare for life
after Edwin van der Sar. Sir Alex Ferguson is not convinced by Ben Foster, and has set his sights
on the 23-year-old CSKA Moscow man.
Am I alone in being concerned about Gael Clichy who seems to be rushing into tackles like a
youth player and losing his positional awareness? I rate the player very highly and see him as
potential leadership material when Fabregas departs for Barcelona. He links well down the flanks
and gives the team much needed width, but his early performances this season have worried me.
This has to be the most eagerly anticipated derby in years, nay decades. Well certainly in my
lifetime anyway.
City's start to the season, culminating in the 4-2 defeat of Arsenal last weekend, will have
surely seen United supporters with even the deepest of hatred towards our city neighbours at least
acknowledge that they have, thus far, looked impressive.
Foster has a lot to think about
Ben Foster has been enjoying his recent run as Manchester United's number one, "I've really
enjoyed being involved so far it's what I've wanted, when you have a solid run in the team you can
look forward to games in advance and settle down a bit more.
I have a secret to admit - I love the attitude of seventeen year olds. Cocky? Arrogant? I've
always believed that confidence should exceed talent by a simple 2:1 ratio. When the sun-earth-moon
align, the solar eclipse can blind one with power and beauty. However, in my opinion, there is
nothing uglier than when vision-reach-grasp align.
The rumour mill is hotting up, with Manchester United preparing for life without Edwin Van Der Sar
It is widely expected that this will be the Dutchman's last season, with Tomas Kuszczak also
unhappy at being behind Ben Foster in the pecking order. As a result, United have turned their
attentions to 23 year old highly [.

England has been wearing the tag of one of the best national teams in the world
for quite a while, but the fans are still waiting for the emergence of a
generation that could repeat the feat of winning the World Cup, something that only '66
team managed to do.
Manchester United goalkeeping coach, Eric Steele, has claimed that Ben Foster was disappointed
with the goal Arsenal scored. Arshavin's shot had plenty of power behind it but Foster really
should have been able to push it away.
Steele reckons that you can judge keepers on how they respond to conceding goals and he believes
Foster reacts well.
As CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev prepares for two potential encounters with United in the
up coming Champions League group stages, the Russian goalkeeper has one eye on linking up with the
Premier League champions in the not too distant future.
There was speculation the shot stopper could have joined United in the summer but despite a move
never materialising, the young keeper is still hopeful.
Keep your chin up, Arsene Wenger... it's Sir Alex Ferguson who has reason for
worry
He [Ferguson] has to convince his stuttering side that they can succeed without Cristiano
Ronaldo and remain among the European elite. And it might just work, even if three of the four
Barclays Premier League games they have so far contested have exposed worrying deficiencies that
could seriously undermine their chances of becoming the first team to win four successive English
titles.
Michael Owen's goal in the 90th minute gave Manchester United a 4-3 victory over local rivals
Manchester City in a match full of drama, excitement, and goals.
Owen's goal came over five minutes into stoppage time, and Mark Hughes was fuming as the fourth
official showed only four minutes on his board.
Manchester United could have thrashed Manchester City in today's 153rd Manchester Derby
but will settle for the three points courtesy of a last gasp winner from substitute Michael Owen.
United ended 4 – 3 winners in a game which Ferguson said could have easily been 7 –
0.
The Champions started the match in blistering fashion, with Wayne Rooney giving them the lead in
the 2nd minute.
This was a thrilling Manchester derby. You could not fault either team's hunger. The game
started and ended in a similar manner. It was madness. Seven goals suggests that the defending
wasn't good, and that was the case as errors had twice cost United their lead.
It was supersub Michael Owen who saved the day.
Message to Rio Ferdinand and Ben Foster: You are playing for your futures as Manchester United
players because today you were both a total disgrace. As far as Foster is concerned, even before
today's derby howler, I think Fergie might well have decided that he will not be United's long-term
replacement for Edwin van der Sarr.
As Manchester United fans we have been blessed in watching outstanding football on a regular
basis for years. The amount of superb performances, great results and lifted trophies has left us
spoilt with success. We are famed for our dramatic results and have a habit of scoring vitally
important goals late on.
Aging keeper may be about to call it a day.

Edwin van der Sar has revealed that he will make his mind up over his future in
December.
The soon-to-be 39-year-old is currently on the sidelines nursing a hand injury but admits that
the time to call it a day is getting ever closer.
A good performance from United and an even better three points. In all honesty, after beating
Arsenal, Spurs and City, I did wonder whether we'd come unstuck against Stoke. They're so robust at
the back and I remember how difficult they were to break down last season. Had they not gone down
to ten men, I do wonder whether we could have got that very late winner.
Man United goalkeeper Ben Foster has thanked manager Sir Alex Ferguson for having faith in him.
Foster didn't have the best of games in the Manchester derby, he was then rested in the Carling
Cup...

Manchester United beat Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday after the Gunners dominated much of the play.
Worryingly for them, they couldn't finish off a United side who were enduring what will probably be
remembered as their worst performance of the season. Regardless, Arsenal tested Ben Foster on just
one occasion after scoring, which allowed United back in to the game.
Tottenham away has never been a stroll in the park. Saying that, our last eight Premier League
visits to White Hart Lane have yielded six wins and two draws. Easy pickings then, or so one may
be led to believe. Well if you're that naive then I'd advise you to stop reading here as Saturday's
trip to the capital will certainly be a massive test for a United side that have hardly stormed out
of the blocks so far this season.
Sir Alex looks for a long term goalkeeper solution.
Manchester United are keen on Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as a replacement for
Edwin van der Sar.
According to Sportal.it, the Red Devils have laid eyes on the Uruguayan shot-stopper. Muslera
joined the Biancocelesti in 2007, and after a poor start last term, the goalkeeper has improved,
attracting plenty of interest in the process.
Here we are again. Can Manchester United achieve a third successive final in the UEFA Champions
League? Tuesday's game against Besiktas will be tough. In fact, the whole of Group B will not be
easy. German Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg will be difficult but the major test will be the home
and away ties to CSKA Moscow.
Ben Foster is looking forward to his first derby day on Sunday and insists he and his United
teammates are ‘well up for it'.
Foster has impressed following a run of games in the first team as the 24 year old stands in for
injured Edwin van der Sar. He has played in all six of United's competitive fixtures this season,
conceding just two goals in the process and pulling off a host of top draw saves.
Sir Alex Ferguson on the win:
"We gave three goals away today. It could have been an embarrassment - we could have won 6-0
or 7-0 today. But in the end we still we won one of the best Manchester derbies. We have a
neighbour, and sometimes neighbours are noisy, but we showed our power today and we get on with
life.
t was always going to be a tense year for United and its fans.
The situation is distinctly lose-win: go trophy-less with an aging, crotchety Alex Ferguson who
failed to replace Cristiano Ronaldo's influence, or win the EPL or the Champions League led by the
wily, sagacious manager who proved doubters—fans among them—wrong again.
Tomorrow at three o'clock United face Tony Pulis' upwardly mobile Stoke City team at the
Britannia Stadium knowing that even at this early stage of the season it would not be wise to come
away with anything other than three points.
Stoke, since their promotion to the EPL in 2007/08, have looked well capable of competing at
this level and near unbeatable at times in their own backyard.
Ben Foster had a nightmare during the derby and sections of the press claimed he was going to be
dropped for our next Premiership game.
Ferguson rightly stuck by Foster though and the keeper picked up a clean sheet in our 2-0
victory over Stoke. Foster didn't have a lot to do but looked more composed and confident than the
weekend before.
England will take on Slovenia in an Internation Friendly as they prepare for upcoming UEFA World
Cup Qualifying. The English roster is full of Premier League players along with David Beckham who's
been in MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Live coverage of the match will begin about 15 minutes
before kick-off or 17:15 GMT (12:15 EST).
For Premier League fans around the world, the last couple of weeks have been
almost too painful to endure as something very important seems to have disappeared out of our
lives. But with yet another international period finally in the
books, we can once again look forward to the return of our most beloved brand of football this
weekend.
Apart from a Paul Scholes sending off, this was a very impressive Manchester United performance.
United bounced back from the shock of conceding a goal within the first minute, pushing for an
equaliser as soon as, and for the duration of the game, even after ten men down, were pretty
organised and unlike the Arsenal game were not lacking any attacking ideas.
Manchester United came away from White Hart Lane with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday. It
was a good three points as Tottenham had previously won all four of their Premier League games.

Memories of that dismal night in Rome some four months ago undoubtedly still linger among United
fans, players, coaching staff...well anyone even remotely connected with the club. Surely the
perfect tonic to banish those memories would be to repeat that feat and have another bash at a
third consecutive Champions League final.
Man United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been filling in for Edwin Van Der Sar ever since he broke his
arm. Van Der Sar will be out for a few more weeks yet and Foster is relishing the chance that he
is...

No-one could argue that on the balance of play over the course of the game that we deserved a
point, but having hauled ourselves back into the game on three seperate occasions, it is galling to
say the least to come away empty handed and the sense of frustration will definitely take time to
subside.
Much has already been written about the amount of injury time that was played, and yes it did
appear excessive, but to play devils advocate a little here, it did also allow ourselves the
opportunity to grab a winner.
Ben Foster has been on the receiving end of plenty of flack following our 4-3 victory over City
yesterday but one of our favourite bloggers, Penguin United, is fighting his corner.
So that's it. It's official, apparently. If you read the papers and the blogs today, Ben Foster
is not good enough for United, and never will be.
If you thought Ben Foster's gaffe last weekend was bad, then you haven't seen anything yet.
Here's how things really, really go wrong when a bad keeper meets a bad striker.
I can't decide who was worse here - the keeper or the striker?
"Worst Goalkeeper Ever v Worst Striker Ever" was originally published at

Who: Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers
What: The Carling Cup
Where: Old Trafford, Manchester, England
When: Wednesday, August 23, 2009 (8:00 PM GMT or 3:00 PM EST)
Why: Because United must defend their title in a cup that no one (aside from nerdy
bloggers such as myself) appears to really care all that much about.
