The Fire PDL defeated the Croatian Eagles from Milwaukee 1-0 last night in a tense US Open Cup
first round match. The PDL team, who only trained four times before playing this match, looked
comfortable for long stretches of the game and should have finished the tie by halftime. The only
goal of the game came in the 5th minute when Mark Blades was set free on the left, broke into the
box and squared for an unmarked Isaac Kannah to finish.

Circumstance is once again smiling on Italy. Despite the loss of the fourth Champions League

So, yesterday completed what was an ideal weekend for us. To add to Chelsea's defeat and our win
over Liverpool, Newcastle dropped points at Sunderland while Alan Pardew demonstrated again that he
is one of the most ignorant, classless, blustering buffoons ever to manage a football team and has
a face that even a mother would love to punch repeatedly.
The Dynamo face off against the Montreal Impact in their third match in the Disney Pro Soccer
Classic. The Dynamo have a draw against Sporting KC and a loss to Vancouver under the belts, and
will be looking for their first win of the preseason tournament.

Sporting KC got their first preseason game under their belts today when they took on the San Jose
Earthquakes today down in Arizona. The two teams started the game with what would likely be
considered their first team lineup. Both teams got things started quickly in the game. The Quakes
grabbed the lead inside the first 5 minutes, as Chris Wondolowski finished off a cross from Marvin
Chavez.

Last night I got stuck at work till 2200 so Sky+'d the game. Obviously kept up to date with the
score while I was here and knew we had lost. I was reading twitter comments and some comments
posted on here last night and had the impression that this was a shambles and Chelsea had a
shocker! My view is far from that and we were hard done by.
Let's begin this morning with team news ahead of tonight's game against Borussia Dortmund.
Just to maintain the balance of the universe, Abou Diaby's return to the squad comes as Tomas
Rosicky drops out, having picked up a 'small thigh strain' in training. Diaby hasn't played yet
this season having undergone surgery on his ankle in the summer and I suspect he'll start from the
bench.

Thanks to their stonking 4-0 first-leg victory in Talinn, the Republic of Ireland breezed
their way unencumbered past Estonia with a 1-1 draw in the return-leg in Dublin last night enough
to see Ireland emerge from the play-offs with a 5-1 aggregate winning margin and a spot in the pots
for Euro 2012 safely tucked under their belts.
The last few meetings with Sp*rs in the league have not been events to write home about. In a
nutshell, we have epitomised the phrase 'self-destruct' in most of them.
However, whilst I understand a lot of the pundits placing their money on a Spurs win today
because of our poor start to the season and T*ttenham getting a few wins under their belts, they
seem to forget they have done this a fair few times before.

Here's one I wrote earlier.
The team, manager and media seem to be more focussed on the upcoming North London Derby, there's
time yet to get excited about that one, but there's a Europa League game tomorrow night I hear.
Beaten 3-0 by Rubin Kazan in their first group game, some Irish team called Shamrock Rovers are in
town. Another Europa League game days before a big league match.
When Harry said he was going to play the kids, I didn't think he meant kids. They did
us proud last night, Livermore and Carroll in particular performing with integrity and application
helped out towards the end by a goalkeeper old enough to be their dad. Not everything worked but
that's only to be expected.
International weeks are never welcome however, this international break has come at a rather
helpful time for Arsenal. If Arsene can pull himself away from his commentary duties on French TV
and get back on the training ground trying to sort out his new-look squad, we could emerge from an
international break a much more formidable team for once.
Well, it's official, there will be no Serie A games this weekend. Which means our boys in blue
go into the international break without a league game under their belts. [read more]
In our latest column from the Academy, U18 coach Mike Marsh looks ahead to Saturday's league opener
against Cardiff City.
The big kick off is almost upon us and everyone involved in the U18 set up can't wait to get
started.
We feel we have made some good strides in the past few weeks and our final pre-season encounter
against Watford last weekend gave us a better idea of where we are as a side.

It is nearly time for another packed weekend in Major League Soccer. Week 22 is on the book and
not everyone is involved this weekend. Both LA and Kansas City were scheduled originally to play
this weekend but that game was moved to Labor Day (not sure about the reasoning behind the
move).
The U.S. contingent for this game is sporting two of the most famous midfielders in U.S. history in
New Jersey natives Tab Ramos and Claudio Reyna, who each have appearances in three World Cups under
their belts. They are joined by '98 World Cup captain Thomas Dooley. The trio was on the field
together in two of three matches in France '98, and both Dooley and Reyna were in the lineup in the
USA's opening game against Germany when their opponent's insurance goal was scored by a striker by
the name of Jurgen Klinsmann.
The U.S. (and New Zealand) packed up everything and traveled together today from Torreon to Pachuca
via Mexico City. If you've ever wondered how more than 100 pieces of luggage and 35 people move
from city to city in the middle of a tournament, here's a quick look at what a travel day looks

Bernard Hopkin's (46) became the oldest Boxing Champion at the week-end as he beat
Jean Pascalto claim the WBC and WBO Light-Heavyweight belts. Hopkin's eclipsed George Foreman who
won the Heavyweight belt in 1994 aged 45.
George Groves shut James De Gale up in their grudge match at the O2 Arena in London last night
with a majority decision to claim the British and Commonwealth Middleweight belts. De Gale left
with nothing after his challenge of winner takes all during the week.
With Champions League football assured and an FA Cup win under their belts, the Manchester City
revolution is progressing nicely.
Even those looking at Euro 2012 betting will agree that the silverware picked up at Wembley on
Saturday could act as a platform for much bigger things for the club.

While there's still much for us to discuss re: the Barcelona/Real Madrid CL tie since our last
recap, we've elected to keep things short and sweet this time around.
Why? Mainly because we have bigger and better things on our plates. Like photoshopping our new
Finest Five together, for example.

That can go plenty of ways now, can't it? I'm sure many of you have some choice words for
Mr. Henry (I'll let you connect the dots) and some probably have a big question on
your mind (again, use your imagination), but I have just three words for the entire Red Bull
organization.
On day two, the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team has settled into Guatemala City, getting their first
training under their belts at a nearby stadium.
With the opening match against Suriname just three days away now, the team is sharpening a few
things here and there and focusing on tactics as much as anything else.
So we settle into our Interlull knowing that 14 Arsenal players will be on duty throughout the
next couple of weeks. Quite why the official site chose to have a picture of Robin van Persie
seemingly being brutally penetrated I just don't know but if that's the worst that happens to him
in the next couple of weeks I think we can live with that.

Today's training was light, as normal for the day before a match. But this one included
something the last two pre-game trainings haven't: penalty kicks.
Since we've reached the knock out stage of the tournament, the stakes are obviously higher and
there has to be a winner one way or another.
Not since the 1985/86 season have Real Madrid remained perfect at home through 22 weeks of La
Liga action
No team this season has been able to leave the Santiago Bernabeu with points in hand. Real
Madrid have won all 18 matches played at home and have scored 61 goals in doing so. The Whites
haven't lost a game on their home turf in ten months; a feat last accomplished by Luis Molowny's
men in 1985/86.
After reaching the Carling Cup final on Tuesday, Arsenal will look to continue their domestic
cup run on Sunday at home to Huddersfield Town.
Many will know very little about our opponents who currently sit third in League One, only six
points from the top. They are currently unbeaten in five league games although they recently
suffered a 4-0 defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and only had to overcome non-league minnows
Dover in the last round of the FA Cup.
