FIFA have released the dates and venues for the matches of the 2014 World Cup finals in
Brazil, with the patience of traveling supporters set to be tested once again.
Instead of keeping group games within a couple of venues located close to one-another, as used to
be the norm, fans will face trips of up to 2,000 miles in order to watch all of their nation's
opening clashes.
FIFA have finally confirmed the venues, dates and kick-off times for the World Cup in Brazil in

The World Cup will run from 12th June to 13th July. The opener is set for Corinthians new stadium

Laurie Hughes obituary
England centre-half at the 1950 World Cup The tale of the Liverpool footballer Laurie Hughes,
who has died aged 87, is one of the game's saddest stories. He was plunged into World Cup football
in Brazil in 1950, his debut for England. But during a Charity Shield game a few months later, he
was badly injured, ending his international career.
The Campeonato Brasileiro has reached the halfway stage and it once again is proving to be a
tightly fought contest with six teams at the top of the standings separated by just five
points.
Corinthians currently lead the way with 37 points from 19 games but they have already lost four
games this season including yesterday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Palmeiras who, as a result of
the victory, maintained their sixth placed position and are not far behind the league leaders.
Five of the eight places for the 2013 Confederations Cup have now been decided and already
the line-up looks tasty already.
BRAZIL - Hosts
SPAIN - World Cup holders
JAPAN - Asian Cup 2011 winners
MEXICO - Gold Cup 2011 winners
URUGUAY - Copa America 2011 winners
These famous five will be joined by the winners of Euro 2012, the 2013 African Nations Cup and next
year's Oceania championship.

In which Sport Recife's youth-string 'keeper Gustavo connects with an appalling, neck-high kick

yesterday evening a horrifying dick move that has promptly seen the young stopper forcibly ejected
from the club and banned for life.
Back in 1950, Harry Keough perhaps summarised best the general attitude toward the quality of
the American game that might still hold true in some quarters of the international football
community. After the postal worker and semi-professional defender considered England's now
legendary 1-0 loss to the US in Belo Horizonte, he quipped, "Boy, I feel sorry for these
bastards.
With his 2006 work Soccer in a Football World, David Wangerin shone a light on the murky history
of American professional soccer in a way that other historians hadn't. While most writers
concentrate on the NASL era and beyond, Wangerin filled in the gaps between Belo Horizonte and Port
of Spain, documenting the failures and missed chances of the United States national team alongside
the well-worn story of the NASL's death and MLS's launch.

Nice logo, but not much else it turns out has either been completed or is on schedule it seems

more:
MOSCOW (AP) -- FIFA remains concerned at the slow pace of Brazil's preparations for the
2014 World Cup, saying soccer officials in South America appear to have invested more energy in
winning the tournament than organizing it.
