American network NBC will show more hours of coverage of the Beijing Olympics than of all previous
summer Olympics combined – an average of 212 hours per day across 12 different platforms.
Sorry for the long title there - but this one should be a firecracker. Of course this is the U23
version of this South American derby, so it doesn't quite carry the significance of a World Cup
qualifier, but both sides are wearing National Team colors and I suspect will be pushing at all
costs for the opportunity to face Nigeria for Gold.

US defender Cat Whitehill will miss the Beijing Olympics after suffering an ACL injury during a
training session in Seoul, Korea, where the US Women's Team is currently competing in the Peace
Queen Cup.
The Olympic gold medal men's match is once again set. The two foes are familiar faces on this
stage, Argentina and Nigeria. Perhaps it's Argentina's turn to pull even in today's rematch in
Beijing; because 12 years ago in Athens...Georgia that is...Nigeria won their first and only
international trophy in the form of Olympic gold.

Brazil and USA face off again for the girl's gold medal match.
For those of you who watched the Women's World Cup, you know that Brazil's Marta shredded the US
defense like barbecue pork; however if the US stays calm and collected on defense, they should be
able to hand the multi pronged Brazilian attack.
Ahh, the magic that is the internet. Although the U23 US Men played Sunday morning, the Olympic
video widget has been a godsend for those of us caught up in match conflicts.
By now, you know the US men gave up a heartbreaking equalizer in the 92nd minute to the Dutch Under
21 European Champions but I think that may be beside the point.
Me wonder if me can write something intelligently after Nigeria's 2-1 win over the U.S. in the
Beijing Olympics Wednesday (or Thursday?) in China. Me brain is hurting. Me feel stoopider. Me feel
like the puppy who lost his way. Ok, in short, want to win the war on terror? Lock suspected
terrorists in a room and make them listen to Marcelo Balboa.
Brazil quite literally strolled past China in their final group stage game in the Beijing Olympics.
Well-taken goals from Diego and two from Thiago Neves ...
If you're like me, then you not only love sports, but the business of sports. As we head toward the
Beijing Olympics, this weeks' Economist has a fascinating section on sports business.
I'll be plucking bits and pieces from this section over the next week or so but to start, I'll
share the latest chart to make you all wish you'd taken up golf as a kid - but aside from that, it
also lists the other 10 highest earners in sport.
The U.S. women entered the Beijing Olympics with the odds stacked against them. They will leave the
Games with more gold. Despite losing key veterans, including star Abby Wambach, to injury prior to
the Olympics, the Americans never lost sight...
On Monday, Brazil made easy work of a Singapore Select 3-0. The friendly was part of Brazil's
preparations for the Beijing Olympics ...
The likelihood of Xabi Alonso leaving Liverpool this summer continues to decrease, with reports
emerging that the club's American owners are preparing to top up the transfer kitty themselves.
Prior to EURO 2008 it seemed a foregone conclusion that Alonso would end his four-year spell on
Merseyside to join Juventus.
Arsenal are closing on the signing of Feyenood midfielder Jonathan de Guzman after weeks of
speculation about the player's future. The Dutch international has also been linked with a move to
fellow Premier League side Everton in recent weeks but it would appear now Arsene Wenger has the
upper hand over David Moyes.
By JAMES CLARKCoach Bob Bradley's latest USA Men's National Team roster for the upcoming CONCACAF
qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago has a curious absence:
One Freddy Adu. Based on his performances in the USA's first two group games at the Beijing
Olympics (Adu was suspended for the third match, down to his own petulance), this sort of beggars
belief.
With a 3-0 win last night over Canada, the US U23 Men's National team earned a spot in the
finals of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament. Honduras also qualified by defeating
Guatemala in penalty kicks, 6-5, after a scoreless 120 minutes in regulation and overtime.
The final between the US and Honduras will kick off at 4 p.

With the Olympics about three weeks away, Salt Lake fans have something to be truly proud of; a
fine export of talented players overseas to the Beijing Olympics. Real Salt Lake has been blessed

After making a cameo appearance in the stands at Brazil's match with Argentina this week,

including those at Barcelona, the Brazilian playmaker announced he intends to compete at the

The roster for the US U23 squad that will play at the upcoming Olympic games has been named.
Lots of familiar names including including Brian McBride, Brad Guzan and Michael Parkurst as the
three older players allowed under the rules. Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and some
others. Then there's the fellow pictured in the photo (by Micheal Goulding, Orange County Register)
who I've seen plenty of as I've become a Chivas USA fan this season:
Sacha Kljestan, captain of Team USA during Olympic qualifying, is also a lock to be named
Thursday to the U.

Kudos to Nick Dasovic,Canada's head coach. He took an undermanned squad to the point of qualifying
for the Olympics. When i watched last nights game i wondered how it happened.I watched last nights
game frustrated by how far Canada must still go before it can really compete with the US and
Mexico. The US-23 squad was a full professional side that were never put in real danger by a hybrid
professional and college side of Canada.
Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon hinted that he could become the third Barcelona player called up by his
country to play in the Beijing Olympics next month. Already, Barcelona has forced to let go of
Argentina's Lionel Messi on a FIFA ruling. After being called up, Brazil's Ronaldinho has
stubbornly stated that .
With the temperatures and humidity levels rising all over the Korean peninsula, the nation's
players will be happy that the K-league is taking a five-week break. Recent games have seen most of
the 22 on the pitch collapse on the turf in exhaustion as the referee blows his whistle to signal
the end.
Ryan Babel and Roy Makaay each scored late goals to give the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Cameroon in
