In anticipation of the Thunder home opener, Inside Minnesota Soccer sat down with former DC
United and LA Galaxy midfielder Quavas Kirk. I also talked to newcomer and Liberian native Geoffrey
Myers as well as former DC United central midfielder, Rod Dyachenko.

The MN Thunder lost their home opener last night 3-2 in a game which I attended. The match was
entertaining but it saw Vancouver with the better scoring opportunities and too many second balls
lost in the midfield as well as ball given away in places that were dangerous.
Hailed as the biggest professional soccer game in Austin history, the State Farm Copa Aztex is this
Saturday, July 18. The match will be an exhibition game between two storied Mexican teams gearing
up to start their season: Cruz Azul and UANL Tigres.
The Chronicle has more on the game and why it's a big deal:
It's the final preseason tune-up for the clubs, who open the 2009 Apertura season next
week.
In a bold step in a new direction, the Minnesota Thunder and Happy Gnome Bar and Restaurant will
unveil the new and massive NSC beer garden called the Thunder Lounge. The Thunder Lounge will
measure 64 feet wide by 96 feet long. It will feature a 40-foot-long covered bar along with 2
standing terraces that run the length of the deck.
Fans heading to Soldier Field - and because of heavy traffic, you definitely should - will have the
opportunity to enjoy the the pre-game festivities at the Budweiser Beer Garden from 3-7 p.m.in the

great food available for purchase.

On June 24th, NBA star and Vancouver MLS investor Steve Nash hosted his 2nd annual celebrity
soccer match in Roosevelt Park in New York City. Well, it looks like it will not be the only event
that Steve Nash will host. Courtesy of the Dynamoplanet.com news feed, we have word that a
celebrity soccer match will also be played in Vancouver this Fall:
From Metro Vancouver:
Steve Nash's popular celebrity soccer match that has been held in New York City for the past two
years is coming to Vancouver this fall.
Much has been made of the overwhelming success of Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders FC.
Toronto FC in year three is a maturing club but it is clear that some things have become a fixture.
The sold out crowds at BMO Field, the long lines at concessions, the beer garden as a distraction
for casual fans, causing empty seats at sold out games and the "make money fast" philosophy of
Toronto FC owner/operator, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
Left at home this weekend with no where to go? Your friends are all at the cabin?
Feeling sorry for yourself?
The Minnesota Thunder are stuck at home this weekend as well because they've got a game to play
tonight. But they're not feeling sorry for themselves. Nope! Instead they will be playing their
butts off for you at the National Sports Center at 7:00 p.

Welcome Amos Magee back to Minnesota, catch a soccer game and then celebrate the 4th by watching
fireworks in the stands or in the beer garden. It should be a great nite as the Thunder will be
looking to return the thrashing the Timbers gave them two weeks ago in Portland. There will be
numerous members of Timbers Army at this game and the Dark Clouds will be out in force to make sure
they are kept in their place.

Hey fanaticos,
My favorite team, Minnesota Thunder host Kansas City Wizards of MLS in the 3rd Round of US Open Cup
on June 30.
The Open Cup was started in 1914 and pits teams from all levels of soccer in America, from amateur
leagues to pros, lined up against each other in a single elimination tournament.

Deep breath now: UEFA Europea League 1st Qualifying Round 2nd Leg
A European tie played over two legs, winner goes through to the next round, perfect. Don't give me
any of that group stages nonsense, nobody wants it aside from a couple of suits at UEFA HQ and half
a dozen Channel 5 viewers.

----------------------Football only. No football allowed.
Just when the Argos looked like they were about to cross into a new BMO Field end zone, Maple Leaf
Sports and Entertainment called an audible. Announcements have arisen today that an immediate North
End expansion to BMO Field in a football (FIFA not CFL) configuration has been proposed to the City
Of Toronto.
