MLS Power Rankings (04/07) – Last Week's Rank In
Parenthesis
- Columbus Crew (1): STO Rules state that a team doesn't move if it doesn't play.
- LA Galaxy (2): But, it's hard not to put LA #1 right now.

The U.S. men's national team will play its second match of 2010 in less than a week against El
Salvador, and while the match is carrying much less buzz than future matches against the
Netherlands, Turkey and the Czech Republic, it is important in its own right.

The U.S. men's national team will play its first match of 2010 on Saturday against Honduras in
Carson, California (9pm, Fox Soccer Channel/Telefutura), and while most of the team's top stars
won't be playing, the match is still an important one in terms of trying to figure out who are Bob
Bradley's best options to fill out the World Cup roster.
The USMNT continues there World Cup vetting process, this time featuring a squad rich in
stateside talent that are looking to move out of obscurity and into the limelight. Bob
Bradley's domestic internationals will be taking on the ever dangerous El
Salvador, who have never won on American soil.
1. This match will make it onto ESPN Classic. Unfortunately, tonight's live broadcast will be
both its first and last appearance on the Classic channel, as it will never make it into their
must-see replay rotation.
2. Jonathan Bornstein will get beaten numerous times by his man, but praised overall for his
crossing ability.
Prior to each match, New England Soccer Today will invite a reporter from the other side to
provide insight regarding the Revolution's next opponent.
This week, RSL Soapbox creator Denzel Eslinger shared his thoughts on the state
of Real Salt Lake and what the Revs can expect when they face them at Gillette Stadium on Saturday
Night.
We're less than an hour away, and we have the USMNT line-up card. O brother, where art Geoff
Cameron?Perkins; Wynne, Conrad, Marshall, Bornstein; Kljestan, Feilhaber, Beckerman, Rogers;
Cunningham, FindleyBench: Rimando, Goodson, Pearce, McCarty, Bedoya, Casey, DavisBack later with
the wrap, enjoy the game.
The U.S. men's national team will kick off the new year tonight looking for a win against a
familiar foe in Honduras at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California (9pm ET, FSC and
Telefutura).
While tonight's match won't have most of the U.S. team regulars, there are potential World Cup
spots up for grabs, so it should be interesting to see how the fringe players fare in one of their
last opportunities to impress head coach Bob Bradley.

Some news for Wednesday, Feb 24, 2010
Hi kids, uncle Joe the Curmudgeon here filling in for Bruce, who is busy making a move on the
Queen... now get off my pitch! I've spent days making it nice and you whippersnappers come in with
your boxing rings, your x-games ramps, your concert seating and absolutely destroy my pitch!
Tonight's interesting starting line-up for the USMNT against El Salvador:Rimando; Evans, Goodson,
Bornstein (c), Pearce, Kljestan, Beckerman, Rogers, Davis, Findley, CaseyI'll be back later with
the highlight clip and will post my U.S. Player Ratings at S365 tomorrow. Enjoy the game, folks.-

Going to try to be fair to MLSsoccer.net. For one thing, people say "NHL hockey" and "NFL football"
and "NBA basketball," so "MLS soccer" isn't something to get Zombie Will Strunk on a rampage.
Certainly better than "The MLS."
Oh - "themls.com" was taken, too. Well, pro soccer will be in America longer than the housing
market, so it's just a matter of time.
Two major trophy winners from 2009 face off in an early test for 2010. Salt Lake was the first
of the expansion sides to win the MLS Cup, and Seattle was the first to take the US Open Cup. Both
are following a similar path in how to be good, but not just going through typical for MLS roster
churn, but instead focusing on keeping a strong and large core of talent with just a few tweaks
between seasons.

It's cold. It's rainy. It's damn near October and I'm looking forward to next season because this
season's optimism is almost out and I need to restock for (expensive) Season V. Wonder how many
will turn out for this benchmark in the old 5-year plan?

Predictions
A man wrote an MLS blog
But he slept through Sunday like a log
Then Monday it came
And he thought in his brain
I'll write something or I'll sure be flogged.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a look at week six. Limerick style.
Columbus 1, Seattle 1:
In Seattle, the Crew came to play
And the first half went Green all the way
But Columbus had luck
And then Lenhart, he struck
Two points had been stolen that day
LA Galaxy 3- Philadelphia Union 1:
The Galaxy, hot as can be
Even if they're without 23
They rolled past the Union
Whose schedules been grueling
Plus Galaxy's offence is key
Colorado Rapids 0, San Jose 1:
Wondolowski was really a shock
With 32 up on the clock
Though he once was thought crappy
He made the Quakes happy
Without their boy Ike in his spot
Real Salt Lake 2, Toronto FC 1:
Though Toronto's late rally was great
Their attendance was low at the gate
Salt Lake had control
Though they let up one goal
And Williams and Beckerman?

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5 average, 10
perfection). This week Brian O'Connell and Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the Revs' 2-1 loss
to Real Salt Lake.
Just an ugly 0-0, haven't you ever seen one of those before? Keep walking... If last week's victory
against Kansas City was an ugly win, then this week's 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake was as ugly
as one of those can get. The stats show the Red Bulls had 16 shots, but only one of them on target
(a Rafa Marquez shot that hit the woodwork).
Repeat? Perhaps. Last night we posted our 1st round predictions for the MLS Cup Playoffs,
which begin tonight on ESPN2. With that out of the way, let's take a look at the semifinals and
final, which will take place Sunday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPN and TeleFutura from BMO
Field in Toronto.
The defending MLS champions were out-coached and outplayed in today's first round matchup
between the two Western Conference clubs, as FC Dallas got a late goal from Eric Avila to beat Real
Salt Lake 2-1.
The match saw FC Dallas frantically try and win outright as they knew winning in Salt Lake City
was something no club had done all season.
The first spot in the Western Conference final will be clinched tonight when Real Salt Lake
faced off against FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium tonight (10pm, Fox Soccer Channel).
RSL will be looking to erase a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, with FC Dallas coming in
confident after Eric Avila's late goal at Pizza Hut Park.
One week from today, the US Men's National Team will play South Africa in a friendly in Cape
Town, and Bob Bradley has yet to release his squad for the match. The friendly comes at a bad
time for most players - it is right in the middle of the major European leagues' seasons plus it is
the semifinals of the MLS playoffs.
