The Jurgen Klinsmann Era is still fresh and new. He's earned his first win, but the soccer fans in the United States want to see more than a win against a CONCACAF middle team and a draw against the best from our region. Tuesday night's game against Ecuador provides a fairly strong test (21st by SPI).

As U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann continues to tinker with his central midfield set-up in the 2013 Gold Cup, there has been one constant.

Kyle Beckerman, now with 28 international caps, has started both of the USMNT matches so far in the Gold Cup, holding down the defensive midfield role while Stuart Holden, Joe Corona, Jose Torres, and Mix Diskerud have been competing for a permanent place.

Jurgen Klinsmann added Kyle Beckerman to the United States Men's National Team roster on Friday as the team continues their preparation in Salt Lake City ahead of Tuesday's World Cup qualifying match against Honduras.

Beckerman's addition adds depth to a central midfield position that was missing usual starter Jermaine Jones because of a concussion.

The result was 3-1 in favor of the Galaxy, but the score does little to tell the tale of intensity and composure by both teams.

The US returns to World Cup Qualification to take on their toughest Group A rivals Jamaica. It's the first of a doubleheader against the Reggae Boyz with the return leg in 4 days in Columbus. We're about an hour from kickoff between the US Mens National Team and their bitter rivals to the south, the reigning Olympic soccer champions in Mexico. The game's airing at 5:00 PT on ESPN2 (Comcast 624, Direct TV 209) and ESPN3, as well as Univision (Direct TV 270).

Over the last few weeks, Landon Donovan and the boys weren't given an opportunity to prevent Mexico from taking the second-greatest prize in world soccer (in part due to their ineptitude in the qualifying rounds).

Who should Klinsmann start vs. Mexico?

Soccer By Ives at related • 2 views

When the U.S. Men's National Team takes the field at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday night, they will be facing arch-rival Mexico with a squad that will look far different from what most would consider an A team.

There is no Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo or Jozy Altidore, which means Jurgen Klinsmann will have to rely on some new faces to try and help the USA earn a result in Mexico City, a place the United States has never won a match.

How’s Klinsy Doing So Far?

I was only able to watch part of the Slovenia game yesterday. I have been saying for some time that I like Altidore, but he is not good enough to be a lone striker. In theory Klinsmann's 4-3-3 should put more guys forward, but the reality was that the wingers played more defensive roles and Altidore was left to do the attacking work himself.

A win, 1-0 over a second-tier CONCACAF side, and probably just about a deserved one, though by no means hugely impressive. The US showed well in patches against Honduras, and a couple of individuals can be proud of their performances, but collectively, the one word that consistently appears in my notes, often double- or triple-underlined, is sloppy.
