Freddy Adu did not develop well in MLS
We're constantly hammered with one side of the coin including Sunday at the conclusion of the
US-Netherlands match on NBC by Marcelo Balboa: we hear constantly that Major League Soccer is
responsible for the US being more competitive in major international tournaments.
Two interesting photos today.
More proof that Toronto FC is MASSIVE.
It seems 50 Cent (pronounced "fitty cen") has taken a liking to the beautiful game.
Specifically Toronto FC.
Was it the sublime skill of Laurent Robert, the explosive creativity of Amado Guevara?
As if this summer hadn't been bad enough for Arsene Wenger already! With Flamini and Hleb choosing
to move on to what they regard as bigger and better things and Emmanuel Adebayor seemingly doing
everything he can to get away as well, Wenger could have been forgiven for thinking that things had
got as bad as they were going to get.
In the spirit of covering our North American brethren, I had been working on a few articles on
Canadian soccer including one on ace Julian De Guzman who is making quite a name for himself at
Deportivo La Coruna. That was until I saw the incredible display of poor sportsmanship shown by
Canadian fans before the MLS All Star Game last night.
In another adventure of the saga called As the Stomach Turns, Jack Warner blasted back at Roy Keane
with comments that you can read in this article. You know its funny, I've been to Ireland many
times and I never realized that it was such a large country. Jack Warner truly is a clown and an
example of all that is wrong in this game.

I have deliberetly allowed two days to pass since the initial reports about the fracas at Crew

In my never-ending quest for quality entertainment, I recently discovered that MLS has put out a
new DVD for me to add to my collection. It's called "Gamebreakers: The Stars of Major League
Soccer", and it allows me, the viewer to, "(c)elebrate the exhilarating action of the
world-class stars of Major League Soccer with a high-energy look at clutch, game-winning moments
steeled in the red-hot forge of the beautiful game.
Over 200 teams from 27 countries will take place in the Anti-Racism World Cup in Bologna,

With no end to racism, hooliganism and violence in sight, it's always good to shine light on the
efforts to erase the negativity from the beautiful game.
- As if on cue, German hooligans strike.
The use of technology in soccer for things like goal line calls, offside, and more has always been
experimental, and even then has been controversial. While arguing over a referee's call is often a
soccer fan's favorite pastime, few fans or officials support its use in the beautiful game.
However, more often than not the debate is about technology's impact on the flow of the game, not
accuracy.
It sounds as a cliche already, but it is true. The beautiful game of football won! Spain deserves
every gram of this cup. And Germany should be happy too. With a bit more finesse in the box, Spain
coould have won this match 5-0. Easily. The Spanish side has shown tremendous

Back in England a week on from the end of Euro 2008, the tournament still looks as impressive
as it did in the Alps. I am not relishing another stolid European club season, dominated by the
tawdry money of the big teams, so for the last time, I am looking back on what was a refreshing
festival of football, the sort of which comes around only every few years:
How was the play?
My new friend, Chris Courtney from Letters From Vagabondia, has written a great piece tracking the
evolution of the American player in Europe. Chris had the enviable job of actually getting paid to
cover US Players in Europe as a writer and reporter for Soccer Times! He has done a great job of
capturing the trends and key names in his Part 1 post (1980s to the mid 1990s).

Sometimes American sportswriters do not get it, but at least one of them does: PTI co-host Mike
Wilbon
During Monday shows Wilbon and co-host Bob Ryan were talking about their top five moments in sports
during the last year. All of the regular moments were talked about including the Super Bowl, Final
Four, and the events Sunday at The All England Club.
We have 17-year-old wunderkind investigative reporter Jamie Lynn Spears (right) on the
story.
Spears, who recently had a kid and got $1 million for a photo shoot, has had her dreams of being a
soccer mom shattered. The absence of the beautiful game in her home state of Louisiana has forced
her to search for something else.
Some people view social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace as a pain, but they can be
great fun for sports fan. When large groups of people get together crazy groups usually form and on
Facebook that is not different. During the next couple of months, Only Time Will Tell will look at
some of the best Facebook Group that are related to sports.
If your Canadian or rather an native of Toronto then tomorrow's all star game may be something to

Liverpool's roll-call of magnificent number sevens includes legends like Kevin Keegan, Kenny
Dalglish and Peter Beardsley - and Robbie Keane is determined to add his name to that list.
Ever since Keegan arrived at Anfield in the 1970s, Liverpool have enjoyed their most successful
periods when the number seven shirt has been filled by a dynamic playmaker capable of raising the
team's play to a higher level.

For those little Engländers who still haven't picked a team to cheer, EURO 2008 gets ever

Nick Green spells out the dire situation for journalists, and specifically those who cover soccer,
these days. As Nick mentions, the latest cuts at the LA Times put Grahame Jones at risk.

He goes on to say: "This guy is getting so many headlines and I don't think he deserves them.
It's not necessarily his fault -- our infatuation [with] transfer rumors probably is -- but with
this guy I'm getting tired of it.

It's tempting to think the NASL came out of the blue in 1968 as money-men in North America,
mesmerized by England's win in '66, finally decided to give that Euro-frippery a try. The reality
is decidedly messier, featuring a kind of convivial merger and acquisition in which Toronto's own

I don't mind the MLS All-Star game. I realize that may not sound like a ringing endorsement of the
event and it's not. I write this not to defend the league, because to me, liking the game a matter

Sunday was a sad day for Italian soccer, as one of the most charismatic club presidents of Serie A

Today the American soccer community mourns the loss of one of it's true icons with the midweek

Arsenal Premiership: Class gap a chasm as Blackburn given the run-around
Arsenal and their Premiership ambitions were given a huge boost after this performance. Star of the
show, was England man Walcott.
Walcott's pace and vision made the opening goal for Robin van Persie and his continual pacey runs
constantly showed up the immobile Blackburn defence and midfield.
While the smell of corporate jollies is far less obvious than at the World Cup, that still has
not stopped ten brands from trying their best to muscle in on the Beautiful Game again.
A credit card company, villains of the 2006 World Cup, when they managed to persuade FIFA to deny
bearers of any rival cards from using them to buy tickets, are one of the terrible ten at EURO
2008, as are an American fast food giant, purveyors of the sort of diet that will never make you a
footballer.
All eyes seem to be on Spain for tomorrow's Euro 2008 final.
Neutral fans are mostly dreaming of a beautiful team who play the Beautiful Game slaying a 34-year
old jinx in a red and yellow climax. But if big-match history counts for anything, the winners'
enclosure will be black and white instead.
