The best photo from a blurry batch of cell-phone pictures. I'm glad to say that I was lucky enough
to be able to go to Empire Field's last Vancouver Whitecaps game against the Seattle Sounders. When
I go see matches live, I'm usually too engrossed in the action and swept up by the atmosphere to be
able to properly focus on what I'm going to write later in the match report.
Busy week in Major League Soccer with Champions League group stage matches, important jockeying
for playoff position and the opening of Bell Pitch Downtown in Vancouver. Before we get to
attendance, here are a couple of thoughts on the inagural match at the league's newest showpiece.
First, it is unfortunate that the game was not part of a national telecast.
The first thing that will jump out to you about newly-renovated BC Place is the
roof. This focal point of Vancouver Whitecaps FC's new building provides a sense of space unrivaled
in any MLS venue. It's a suspension-based structure that is retractable, much like a few of the new
European venues seen in Germany.
While the preseason is interesting, it's all building up towards the actual season. Although we do
know that the Whitecaps will be hosting Toronto FC in their first match, the rest of the MLS
matches were a mystery until now. Finally, the fixture list for 2011 has been unveiled, and you can
find it here.
For those still wondering when the Vancouver Whitecaps would end up in their real home, BC
Place. The club has released this little video to show you all that they aren't that far away. I
have to say the retractable roof concept there seems pretty cool.
(H/T to SF for posting this).
BC Place is getting awfully close to opening up again in Vancouver. I noticed this post over at
stadiumporn.com (awesome name btw). The light panels on the outside of the stadium are pretty
sweet. And that roof. Wowzers.

One had better know his or her soccer when talking Mission Viejo with Jordan Harvey.
The Vancouver Whitecaps defender was quick to point out, when asked recently about his high
school alma mater, that MVHS in Orange County, Calif.
B.C. These letters can mean a number of different things. In mainstream American sports, Boston
College immediately comes to mind, primarily as a college football mainstay. For the non-sport
initiated, B.C. used to be a time annotation. It was meant ...
