- Here are more details about Liverpool's new TV channel, LFC.tv, which is scheduled to go live
on September 20. It's frustrating for Liverpool fans in the United States because no one will be
carrying the channel over here. GolTV dropped its coverage of Liverpool TV at the end of last
season. LFC.tv is produced by Setanta Sports but will not be available via Setanta Sports USA.
Congratulations to Craig Bellamy who was named Footballer of the Year for Wales, beating out the
likes of Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale. Anytime a Liverpool player, former or not, beats out a Man U
player for something, the sun seems to shine a little brighter. It was the first time the
28-year-old striker has won the award. The always humble Bells was surprised to win, but thought he
was more deserving in previous years.
Events over the last seven days encapsulate in microcosm the rampant corruption and associated loss
of any vestige of integrity in the professional football world. Throughout this week, virtually all
of the major areas of concern within the game have enjoyed their window in the public spotlight.
From oligarchs to the Thai elections, from Quest and the bungs inquiry to heavily corrupted global
spectacular matches, the state of the game has been laid bare for all to see.
ON a schoolday Jack could sleep till midday. On a Sunday his sixth sense catapults him from
his bunk bed at 7.39am. Why? Because of his beloved Match of the Day. It's one of the
highlights of his week.
The website redesign for EPL Talk is coming along nicely and may be live as early as this weekend
or, at the latest, early next week. As soon as it's unveiled, I'll let you know here. I've
mentioned it before, but the EPL Talk Blog that you're reading now will be moved to a different
location, so thanks in advance for your patience and changing your bookmarks.
Kevin Keegan interview as part of the BBC 'Inside Sport' programme aired this week.
An interesting comment from it was "I mean I haven't watched a game of football, I mean live, since
my last game at Manchester City and I can't even remember what game that was now."
Unfortunately for most of us Kevin, we still can.
JACK watched his first Epsom Derby this afternoon and was excited to see the only jockey he
knew - Frankie Dettori - romp home for his debut win in the famous race. He was asking
lots of questions. Why didn't the horses jump like in the Grand National? Does the winning 'driver'
win a trophy?
BBC - Radio 4 - Poetry Slam
God bless the BBC. Not sure whether this is old or new or what but I happened upon it last night.
Not usually my sort of thing but it was really entertaining listening to the people blast out their
lyrics...some of it was far too earnest and tettered on the line between precocious and pretentious
but it was raw and messy (the marking format seems a bit of an afterthough).
- Marseille's Samir Nasri is set to miss his side's Champions League match next week with us due to
meningitis-type flu. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder was hospitalized last weekend and has yet
to be released. He is expected to require at least a two week convalescence period.
- Jamie Carragher is set to make his 476th appearance for Liverpool tonight against Reading.
Many of you won't be aware but I've been feeling a little poorly of late, hence the lack of new
articles going on recently. First of all, may I pass on my apologies for the temporary drop in
service levels on our part, however I'm able to reassure you that my recent period of convalescence
hasn't been a completely useless exercise.
While confined to my sick bed, I was at least able to view the goings-on in world football through
my laptop-shaped porthole so that I can now report back to you as I begin the long road to
recovery.
"Its the biggest load of nonsense and its doing my head in" was one of Harry Redknapp's statements
regarding his current legal situation. The "it" in question is the law and 'Arry evidently feels he
exists above the confines of such restrictions.
And, its a family affair. In The Sun, ex-model son Mark squealed: "Someone is out to get dad".
Quick Mourinho for England update. I wrote a few days ago about how the jungle
drums were deliberately beating and leading to the inevitable hiring of The Special One for the
Three Lions job. Now, a prominent BBC journalist has added his well respected opinion and demanded
the FA pick up the phone and call Jose (see link below).
