Nine clubs will have more than one team vying for Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association State Championships this weekend at the USA Youth Soccer Complex in Appleton.

FC Milwaukee leads the way with five teams (three boys and two girls) set to play in Saturday's semifinals, while Bavarian SC had four boys teams earn spots in the final four in their respective divisions during group play over the Memorial Day weekend at USA Youth Soccer.

As a referee, Raj Rajani sees just about every boys soccer player in the Madison area as they progress through their high school careers.

That comes in handy for Rajani's other role in the game: Manager of Madison United's Majors and Premier teams.

The club's Majors side, which kicks off the spring portion of its season against Milwaukee's Bavarian SC at 3 p.

Wind Lake's Luka Prpa (North Shore United) and Fox Point's Jack Shaw (Bavarian SC) started play at the U.S. Soccer Under-14 boys national team identifcation camp Sunday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Prpa and Shaw are among 80 players born in 1998 and '99 selected to train twice daily under the direction of Under-14 boys coach Manny Schellscheidt during the six-day camp.

The landscape of club soccer in Wisconsin continues to change.

Three of Wisconsin's clubs are moving their top Under-13 through Under-18 boys teams to the National Premier Leagues, a new U.S. Club Soccer competition that starts this fall and concludes with the NPL Champions Cup in July 2012.

The two teams with the most Wisconsin Adult Soccer Association Major League titles over the past 40 years will meet for this season's championship.

Two Bavarian SC boys teams got a firsthand look at soccer at the highest level last month.

The Under-13 and Under-14 teams were the first to travel to Germany as part of the Glendale club's new partnership with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

"It was more than I was hoping for," said Andreas Davi, the Under-14 coach and international program director for Bavarian SC who brokered the deal between the clubs.

The start of the spring portion of the 2010-11 Wisconsin Adult Soccer Association Major League season will have to wait, as all five scheduled matches were postponed Sunday.

A quartet of games scheduled for the Milwaukee area – Croatian Eagles vs. Club Latino, Milwaukee Kickers vs. Milwaukee Serbians, Milwaukee Sport Club vs.

Two things happened yesterday:

i. Manchester United played against a team nowhere near as good as Manchester United.

ii. Manuel Neuer put on one of the finest Champions League goalkeeping performances you're going to see for some time (again); in the process, probably making several babies (in the general Bavarian region).
