We know that names like Klose, Löw, Frings and Ballack offer creative headline writers
plenty to work with. We know that Schweinsteiger can be a bitch to pronounce for some non-German
speakers. I know that every English article mentioning Schweinsteiger will tell you that his name
translates to pig climber or pig mounter.
By now, you've probably figured mCalcio.com (i.e. me) likes pictures. Needless to say, I am a
strong believer that "a powerful image can speak louder than a thousand words". So
presenting to you, a selection of 20 images giving tribute to Spain's Euro 2008 triumph in Sunday's
final. Enjoy. And once again, ¡Viva España!
He is strong on the pitch, always determined to do the uttermost to help his team win each game,
and his creativity always puts his side's performances on a higher plane. However, it seems his
courage and stamina fade away outside the stadium. Bastian Schweinsteiger, four times a Bundesliga
champion is a fantastic player whose brilliance [.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is, and let's call a spade a spade here, an ugly bastard. An ugly bastard
dude with money and fame, which tends to attract shallow beer-guzzling, pseudo-model types like Ms.
Brandner over there. (See....nearly every WAG imaginable.) And they're in love, which is nice. But
she's not the only one who's in love [.
It had been a long time since Spain won anything, so I suppose you can forgive them for forgetting
how to enjoy victory in style. Unfortunately, here they are congaing through Bastian
Schweinsteiger's post-match interview - not just one way, but again the other way! Poor Pigfarmer
looks ready to cry.

As Cristiano continues to screw over his teammates, fans and manager by not so subtly orchestrating
a move to Real Madrid, Sir Alex looks to a new hero to fill the Portuguese traitorous boots!
Manchester United have put Germany's Euro 2008 winger Bastian Schweinsteiger at the top of their
hit-list to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Germans picked the right time to play their best game of Euro 2008. First-half goals from
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose staked Germany to a 2-0 lead and Michael Ballack grabbed
the game winner for the second-straight game as Germany defeated Portugal 3-2. Germany advances to
next Wednesday's semifinal against either Croatia or Turkey.
Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has made claims that he could leave Bayern Munich this
summer and make his way to the Premiership. The 23-year-old winger has been at Bayern ever since
making his debut at the tender age of 18. He is just moving into the last year of his contract at
the Allianz Arena, but [.
Turkey faces Germany in the first semifinal from Basel. While Turkey's Cinderella run has been
highlighted by some of the greatest finishes in tournament history, a combination of injuries and
yellow cards have sapped the squad. We're now left with a Saturday-after-Thanksgiving Turkey; the
kind that's not only been served for dinner, but was used the next day for sandwiches, and now just
has a few pieces of meat clinging to the carcass.

Spain and Germany will close a highly-memorable tournament when they meet in the Euro 2008 Final in
Vienna Sunday. Spain is seeking just their second major championship- they won the 1964 Euros on
home soil. Since that time, Germany (and West Germany before them) have won three Euros and two
World Cups.
First-timer meets long-timer in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup, as European newcomer Getafe face
off against Bayern Munich. While Getafe are experiencing Europe for the first time, Bayern have
been there and done that, six times in fact (four European Cup/Champions League titles, one Cup
Winners' Cup title, and one UEFA Cup [.
Bastian Schweinsteiger was involved in all six of Germany's goals in the last two encounters
between Germany and Portugal. So hats off to Scolari for this gesture.
If there's one thing that Tuesday night taught Fiorentina, it's that by having 22 shots on target
and still failing to score against Bayern Munich, you will at some point get punished. The German
giants might very well be struggling in the Bundesliga at the moment, they are still a team loaded
with world class [.
Rather than pretending that I can comment on all 16 teams competing at Euro 2008, I will focus on
one group, Group B, and the team, Germany, that I am most familiar with. Focusing on Germany should
give me plenty to write about, especially if, as many believe, they are crowned European champions
in Vienna on June 29.
Once favored to sweep aside the best Europe had to offer, Germany is limping into tonight's
quarterfinal match with Portugal. Euro 2008 got off to a flying start for Michael Ballack & Co.
with a 2-0 win over Poland, but then came complete capitulation to Croatia and a meek 1-0 win over
a second-class Austria.
"BAYERN BACK AT THE BIG TABLE" screamed one of the more excitable but, after further
investigation, shallow headlines after Munich's 1-0 Champions League win against Steaua Bucherest
last night.
The bold type had it right. Bayern were back at the big table but what the heavy typesetting failed
to add was that the manners of the team once they were seated were more reminiscient of lucky
guests who'd been waiting for a cancellation all night only to find themselves amid a conversation
which, at times, sailed over their heads.
I don't think my article on Landon was advocating a move to Bayern Munich, but I can see where some
have taken it that way.
Here's what one reader had to say:
With all due respect I don't think Landon Donovan would even make the Bayern Munich matchday party
more than 12 or 15 times in a season.

Croatia goes through after beating a weak German side, and Austria overcomes the early-exit host
curse after being gifted with a stoppage time penalty equaliser. But first they were punished with
an arguably offside Polish goal, so perhaps there was a bit of karma involved?
And we saw our first straight red card today when Germany's Bastian Schweinsteiger was sent off
late in the game for retaliating for an ugly tackle by Croatia's Jerko Leko.
Germany 3-2 Turkey. Fatih Terim and his Turkish team are out of Europe: the comeback kings just ran
out of miracles on Wednesday night, in a match during which, ironically and all things considered,
they were the better team on the field. In the days preceding the match, everyone thought Germany
would have a very easy [.
EURO 2008 FINAL, VIENNA
The destination of the Henri Delaunay trophy could hinge on the fitness of Germany captain Michael
Ballack, who has a calf strain and missed Saturday training.
Tournament hot-shot David Villa is of course also missing for Spain, but the absence of the Chelsea
midfielder for Germany looks the more crucial.
Jurgen Klinsmann had to do with a draw in his Bundesliga debut as FC Bayern Munich were held to a
2-2 draw by Hamburger SV. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski gave the defending champions a
2-0 lead in the first half, but Paolo Guerrero and Pietr Trochowski restored parity for Hamburg as
both teams walked [.

Rafael Benitez is prepared to dig in and play a waiting game with Aston Villa in order to sign
Gareth Barry.
Villa rejected a third Liverpool bid for their captain on Thursday, believed to be in the region of
£15m but with manager Martin O'Neill admitting that the England international has his heart
set on a move to Anfield, Benitez is in no rush to push through the move this weekend.

Wow. Just finished watching the first half of the Germany-Portugal Euro quarterfinal on espn360,
and while I expected Portuguese skill to win the day comfortably, I am FEELING the Germans right
now. Though I should probably shut up until I see the second 45 minutes.
The buildup leading to Bastian Schweinsteiger's opener was gorgeous, flowing football that few
would readily associate with Deutschland, even in the midst of their World Cup 2006 run -- which
relied on heart and hustle as much as anything.
Some six years after missing the 2002 World Cup final due to yellow cards, German national team
captain Michael Ballack could miss the Euro 2008 final vs. Spain with a calf strain.
Ballack hasn't trained in two days and could be replaced in the lineup by Bastian Schweinsteiger
or Tim Borowski.
Breaking News: German goal keeper Jens Lehman blames the referee for their loss in the Euro
Final. It was not Lehman's crappy play on the game winning goal that caused it! Hahahahahahaha. And
good times were had by all.
