If there's one thing I love about Twitter is it's ability to start a full scale debate from one
person's tweet. At approximately 10.30 this morning a Spurs fan, Kevin Jones, said "As a
welshman I'm not bothered but Michael Dawson is not an England captain".
What has followed in the last hour has seen Michael Dawson's ability to not only be England's
captain but also Spurs captain come into question.
Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland, White Hart Lane, Sunday 18th December, 3pm Kick
off
So on Thursday night Spurs European adventure for this season came to an end, despite a 4-0 win
at Shamrock. The perceived wisdom is that this is a blessing in disguise and can leave Harry
Redknapp and his team to concentrate on getting Spurs back into the Champions League.
There's so much going on at the moment with regards to the new stadium, political spin left,
right and centre. Even Pele's talking about it. This afternoon Daniel Levy wrote an open letter on
the official site which unless you're blind confirms the boards first choice is moving to
Stratford.
Europa League Group A Thursday 16th September 2011
Spurs Team: Cudicini; Walker; Corluka; Bassong; Townsend; Falque (Fredericks 81);
Carroll; Livermore; Dos Santos (Parrett 92); Kane; Pavluchenko
'The kids are alright' So sung The Who .
Ka-boom!! For all Spurs fans Younes Kaboul's 85th minute winner at the Emirates last season was
a moment to savour. It wasn't the first time the French international had scored a crucial goal in
a big game. Spurs 125th anniversary game had turned into a bit of a nightmare, being 4-1 down to
Aston Villa certainly didn't point to a glorious birthday celebration.
Spurs line-up: Gomes; Walker; Livermore; Bassong; Rose; Lennon (Modric);
Sandro(Kaboul); Carroll; Dos Santos(Assou-Ekotto); Defoe: Pavlyuchenko
'From Russia with love'
Roman Pavlyuchenko reclaimed his SuperPav tag, even if only for tonight, with a rocket-like free
kick that was enough to claim the win for Spurs.
Sunday 23rd October 2011. Ewood Park. 3pm Kick off.
Sunday sees Spurs travel to Ewok Park (anyone else miss Soccer AM's days of actually being
funny?) to take on Blackburn. Before the season kicked off I did a guest appearance on The Elastico
podcast for their Premier League season preview.
THFC1882 welcome's back Rob with a guest preview of Sundays game, keep an eye
out for his match report too!
Sunday 30th October 2011, White Hart Lane. 4pm Kick off Live on Sky Sports 1HD,1 and in 3D
The mighty Lilywhites take on their West London rivals, QPR, at the Lane on Sunday a day before
Halloween, hoping to continue to give Spurs fans a treat rather than trick.
Europa League. Central Stadium. 5pm kick off. ITV4.
Spurs travel to Tatarstan to take on Rubin Kazan for this away Europa League game. Last month, a
young/2nd string Spurs side claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Kazan at The Lane. That win has put
Europa progress firmly in the Lilywhites sights.
Spurs: Cudicini; Fredericks; Gallas (Parrett); Bassong; Townsend; Falque;
Livermore; Carroll; Pienaar; Pavlyuchenko (Kane); Defoe
Tonights game at Central Stadium was always going to be tough for Spurs, no matter which team
had been picked. Rubin Kazan have some experienced heads from Russian League and European football
and they showed it with a commanding performance against a Spurs team that had a mix of youth and
experience.
Straight on at the traffic lights in Moscow Central. Well the boys finally ran out of road, sank
without trace and hit the buffers in the Europa. Actually that's a metaphor too far because it
wasn't quite a train wreck although without Cudocini's performance it might, from a distance, have
looked like one.
THFC1882 welcomes back guest writer Mike Hooley with a preview of Wednesday's
Europa League game:
So, Tottenham Hotspur play a European tie on a Wednesday once again, in what all Spurs fans hope
will be a prelude of things to come next season.
However, the fantastic current league run – nine wins and a draw since the Manchester City
defeat – is put to one side this week with the return fixture against the Greek outfit PAOK
Salonika, current Group A leaders.
THFC1882 present a guest preview by Rob:
Shamrock Rovers v Tottenham Hotspur, Thursday 15th December 6pm KO ITV4
So here we are, at the last match in the laborious group stage of the Europa League. A
competition that is supposed to be the second best European competition to win but in my opinion is
just plain second rate as shown by the fact that not that many teams are interested in playing in
it.
