Listening to last week's episode of the Football Weekly Podcast on The Guardian, I had
to laugh when studio guest (and occasional EPL Talk blogger) Richard Whittall brought up the topic
of stereotypes about British women. Astounding as it may seem, The Guardian's Barney Ronay had no
idea what Whittall was talking about and seemed perplexed by Whittall's polite hints of what
British women are famous for.
Sorry for not posting this on Saturday, but it's been a busy weekend preparing for my trip to
Las Vegas this week to attend a search marketing conference. Nevertheless, drumroll please, here
are the winners of the copies of FIFA 10 and The Manager book by Barney Ronay:
- FIFA 10 winner: Bernard Cahill
- FIFA 10 winner: Peter Edmiston
- FIFA 10 winner: Marc Shepherd
- The Manager winner: Dave Griffiths
Congratulations to each one of you.
Football Weekly is the Guardian's superb Football podcast. It is released every Monday, in an
edition that reviews the weekend's fixtures, plus a bonus edition every Thursday (Football Weekly
Extra) which previews them.
The anchor is James Richardson, of Football Italia and recently deceased Setanta fame, and he is
joined by various combinations of Guardian football correspondents, most often Barry Glendenning,
Sean Ingle, Sid Lowe, and other peripatetic guests.
Barney Ronay of The Guardian is the latest guest on the EPL Talk Podcast to discuss his newest
book, The Manager: The Absurd Ascent Of The Most Important Man In Football.
Ronay is best known for his appearances on the The Guardian's Football Weekly Podcast as well as
the top writers at the newspaper.
Stuff to read while you watch an entirely casual own-half goal for the Russian U21's..... The
biggest and bestest football clubs in history. (SoccerLens) Out with the old, in with the new on
Spanish sidelines. (ESPN) Barney Ronay interviewed on his new book. (EPL Talk) Richard Dunne's wife

Rebecca Lowe of ESPN UK will be one of the next guests on the EPL Talk Podcast, the only Premier
League interview show on the Internet. And you have a chance to have your questions asked on-air to
her. Please post them in the comments section below and the best questions will be asked.
For the past week, we've been giving away a copy of FIFA 10 the new video game from EA as well
as soccer books. I just took a look inside the treasure box and I still have several copies of FIFA
10 that I need to give away as well as Barney Ronay's book, The Manager. So even if you
don't win today, be sure to keep on checking back each day for your chance to enter and win the
contest.
I'm leaving on Monday for a trip to Las Vegas for a search marketing conference, so I want to
wrap up the EPL Talk contests before I leave in order to mail the packages and to make some
football fans very happy. So today, if you're lucky enough to be reading this, you have the
opportunity to win one of three copies of FIFA 10 we're giving away and a
copy of the book by Barney Ronay named The Manager.
Alright all,
we host Pompey today for the first home game of the season in our new Arsenalised stadium. There
is a chance the team could remain the same for the first three games of the season, I'm expecting
an unchanged side of:
Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Song, Denilson, Fabregas, Arshavin, Bendtner, van
Persie.
Barney Ronay will be a future guest on the EPL Talk Podcast.
Best known to readers as a writer for The Guardian as well as a regular guest on The Guardian's
Football Weekly Podcast, Ronay has written a new book entitled "The Manager." The book takes the
reader beyond the well-worn anecdotes, deeper into the stories of football's top men and the world
they inhabit.
Yesterday we debuted our new FIFA 10 contest where we'll be giving away a copy of the game on
random days within the next two weeks as well as football books.
Yesterday's winner of FIFA 10 was TJ Brustowicz. But if you want to try and win
a copy of FIFA 10 for yourself, go ahead and enter today's contest.
For the past three days, we've been giving away a copy of FIFA 10 the new video game from EA. In
the next few days to next couple of weeks, we'll be giving away a copy of the game on random days
as well as football books.
Yesterday's winner of FIFA 10 was JD Thomas.

Barney Ronay nails the epidemic of moral outrage that's sweeping through English football,
leaving broken syringes scattered over the pillaged Red Cross stations in its wake:
Perhaps it might be more useful to wonder why we're so angry. My theory is that the Premier
League has become a bit like one of those Pandora's Box-themed disaster/horror movies where the
avaricious and hubristic white-coated scientists unwittingly release the rapacious virus into the
atmosphere.
It isn't often that I interview personalities for the EPL Talk Podcast. In the past six months,
I've interviewed two people. The first was Barney Ronay, the scholarly and humorous writer for
The Guardian and author of a new book entitled The Manager. And the second is
Peter Lupson, today's guest on the EPL Talk Podcast.
During the next two weeks, we'll be giving away copies of FIFA 10 the new game from EA as well
as three different football books as prizes, so be sure to keep on coming back each day to see when
the next contest is announced.
Today, for the first time, we'll be giving away a copy of FIFA 10 to one lucky person who
correctly answers the following trivia question and sends his or her answer in by the deadline of
5pm ET/9pm UK time on Monday, October 26, 2009.
For the past two days, we've been giving away a copy of FIFA 10 the new video game from EA. In
the next few days to next couple of weeks, we'll be giving away a copy of the game on random days

Well that was frustrating! I dunno what would be more frustrating to be honest. Watching that game
and being beat 3-0 (again) or having all the Playboy bunnies gyrating naked in front of me, giving
me the come-on, whilst having my hands tied behind my back and being blindfolded.
One thing is for certain, and in spite of this defeat being in the Carling Cup, we need to stop
this rot quickly.
In the upcoming weeks and months, EPL Talk will be bringing you multiple interviews with
Slovenian Journalists to discuss the National Team that has been drawn with England for the World
Cup, as well as some background on the nation itself.
Please leave any questions you may have about Slovenia, the national team and the country in the
comments section.
During 2009, EPL Talk made some big changes in the podcast department by moving the weekly show
to a daily format, promoting Kartik Krishnaiyer to host and adding new guests and analysts such as
Laurence McKenna and Alex Caulfield. In 2010, we have even bigger plans and some major celebrities
lined up to be interviewed, but before we get too far ahead of ourselves, I want to share with you
the top 15 most download EPL Talk Podcasts of 2009:
