Something that has been gaining a lot of attention recently is that of Raul Meireles' haircut.
He's been described as having a dead rodent on his head, which isn't a bad description.
Whether something has happened to him during his time at Chelsea perhaps he bet with John Terry
that Villas-Boas will not get sacked before the end of the season, and the loser had to get a
god-awful haircut?

Seattle Sounder's beat a Beckham and Keane-less LA Galaxy 2-0 over in the MLS last night, with
Fredy Montero's 48th-minute exocet definitely the goal of the game the Colombian striker smashing
his first goal of the season into Bill Gaudette's top corner from roughly the length of a Blue
Whale (90 feet) out.

[I]n an article last year, The Economist coined the phrase `Londonism' to refer to what it
regarded as a distinct ideology driven by the office of Mayor. It cited as the central tenets of
`Londonism': enthusiasm for the financial services industry; an openness to immigration; and the
unceasing pursuit of economic growth.
A lot of column centimetres have been devoted to Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes in recent
weeks and to have kept his head while others around him have been placing it upon the financial
guillotine has been admirable – yes, that's you David Gold. Three excellent articles in The
Seventy Two have explored the appeal of the man while our own blogger Ben profiled him in these
pages as 2012 drew to its conclusion.

While the race for the Premier League title hots up, let's not forget there is plenty of
football being played outside the top 20 teams in England.
Here are seven stand-out players from the Championship, all of whom could be playing in the top
flight next season:
Albert Adomah
Despite making almost 200 league appearances for non league Harrow Borough and League Two side
Barnet, Adomah was a largely unknown quantity when he arrived at Bristol City in the summer of
2010.
At the beginning of every summer, a list of free agents is circulated amongst British clubs and
managers. Here, Dan Mobbs of the excellent Three Match Ban speaks to a player who unwittingly found
himself on last year's register. Unemployment and the anxious search for work are simply not things
associated with top flight football, as being a free agent from a Premier League club is ostensibly
a financially profitable position to be in; attracting a bumper signing-on fee and an increased
wage packet in the absence of a financial transfer lump.
It's hard to guess what level League of Ireland players would be capable of playing at elsewhere,
at least I have always found it so. When Kevin Doyle was signed by Reading from my own club Cork
City I remember wondering why on earth they overlooked his more prolific strike partner John
O'Flynn. Although O'Flynn has since found success at Barnet and Exeter, there are clearly factors
for consideration above and beyond strike rates, or their status as local stars.

Three out. Two in. Gary Smith has been a busy man since Boro's exit from the FA Cup at
Tottenham.
The three players leaving were all unused substitutes at White Hart Lane and have all moved on
loan deals until the end of the season. Peter Winn has gone back to his roots, joining Grimsby.
Phil Edwards has also returned to his native Lancashire linking up again with former boss John
Coleman at Rochdale.
Thai season kicks off this weekend. Champions Buriram PEA are no Buriram United, an imaginative
name change and they will be hoping to continue the form of last season when they surprised
absolutely no one by winning the TPL, the FA Cup and the League Cup. They probably never lost a
toss either.
Muang Thong United boast a new coach, a new sponsor, a slight name change and a new sponsor for
their stadium.

Read Paintball in full in full, you hear!
It is called Paintball great brand synchronicity, guys! I bet there was a shower of
high-fives, backslapping and moonwalking in the office that day; some lucky shark got to go home
early.

"Do me a favour, Sanchez..."
Firstly all these fines for racist abuse, then for homophobic abuse and now former Crazy Gang
member Lawrie Sanchez is predicting a female Premier League manager within 10 years!

It's always a difficult time for a football club when a manager leaves unless that manager is Steve
Evans. The mascara-wearing convicted tax fraudster has left Crawley Town to join their League Two
rivals Rotherham. And his former players couldn't be happier. The squad decide they're "gonna
singing a song ‘cos the fat man's [.
This week, Barnet Football Club turned once again to an old hand. Here, Tim Fletcher provides his
reaction: Who did you say we've appointed? It is perhaps typical of the lot of a Barnet supporter
that the moment you go on holiday and beyond reach of a mobile phone, let alone the internet, that
once again we have an end of season change of manager.
[O]nce upon a time, the PFA Awards were the undisputed measure of a season's most valuable players.
Voted for by the Professionals themselves, the response to their announcement was one of awed hush
and consent – how could mere onlookers presume to know better than those involved in the rough
and tumble of the actual sport?
There was always something inherently contradictory about Stan Flashman. He is, perhaps, best
remembered as the "King Of The Touts" (often with the prefix "Self-Styled" attached to it), but
when he craved respectability he would rebrand himself as a "Ticket Broker." Ultimately, though, he
himself stated that he didn't care what he was called as long as the money was right.
DiCanio's Swindon reigned supreme this season
The final piece of our end of season round-up casts us towards League Two, often a proving
ground for exciting new managers and players – but how well did my predictions pan out?
