Friendly match: Barnet FC vs Arsenal FC 2:2. Match highlights.
Goals from: Arshavin and Barazite
The Johnstone Paint Trophy began its Round 2 in the Northern and Section section on Tuesday,
October 6, 2009. Most of the home teams advanced with a few exceptions. One match was postponed,
Accrington Stanley v Shrewsbury Town, because of rain and the officials ruling the pitch unfit to
play on.
Here's a list of the results from Tueday's matches.
Arsenal have announced a friendly on 29 July against Hannover 96. The game will take place in
Hannover's AWD Arena. Hannover are a mid table Bundesliga team.
Arsenal will get back to pre-season training on 6 July with our traditional curtain raiser
against Barnet on 18 July. Arsenal have not yet announced any other friendlies, but traditionally
we go to Austria and have two games against minor opposition, before stepping up the process.
There won't be any Gooners travelling to Amsterdam this summer (at least not for footballing
reasons anyhow!), after Ajax announced that Arsenal aren't participating in this year's LG
Amsterdam Tournament 2009. Instead, Arsene Wenger's side are replaced by fellow Premier League club
Sunderland.
It was back to training today for the players, or at least most of them, as pre-season began in
earnest ahead of our first warm up match against Barnet in eleven days time. You can take a look at
photos here, and while we shouldn't read too much into the first day back, they do raise a few
points:
- Rumours that Vermaelen is short are wide of the mark.
By 1970's GoonerAlmunia: Wasn't his fault for the goal. Otherwise his usual self assured. 8Djourou:
Started at right back. A sign of things to come? Had an average game. Unless Arsene gets rid of a
central defender we will have a plethora of available players in this position (Gallas, Toure,
Vermaelen, Silvestre, Senderos, Djourou and Song if required).
Laughter is probably not really appropriate in regards to any injury news, but this did give me a
chuckle.
Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has suffered a minor injury setback after returning
from 18 months on the sidelines.
After playing half the recent pre-season game against Barnet, Rosicky was substituted as a
precaution by boss Arsene Wenger.

This morning, non-league football's least surprising bankruptcy was confirmed at the High Court
in London, as former Blue Square South side Fisher Athletic were finally put out of their misery
out wound up. For many, Fisher had been little more than a shell of a club since they left their
Surrey Docks stadium in 2004 to ground-share at Dulwich Hamlet's Champion Hill, five miles away
from their traditional Rotherhithe base.
Boro confirmed today that midfielder John Martin has been released from his contract. It's a
disappointing end to Martin's career after a fantastic start which saw him an integral part of the
club's amazing start to the 2007/2008 season under Mark Stimson, particularly impressing alongside
Stuart Lewis in the Boro midfield.
Arsenal will continue their pre-season excursions to Austria with the news that the Gunners' will
play a Viennese amateur team next month. SC Columbia have announced a friendly against Arsene
Wenger's side which has been scheduled for the 21st July. The game at the Wiener Stadtliga is
already being dubbed the biggest in the Floridsdorf-based [.
Goals from established first-teamer Andrei Arshavin and young gun Nacer Barazite could not
prevent Arsenal from being restricted to a draw by League Two side Barnet at the Underhill
Stadium.
By AriesAndrey Arshavin has been speaking about the first pre season game at Barnet's underhill
ground and indeed he was very surprised, not about the state of the pitch but by its gradient."It
was a bit of an unconventional pitch. I'm not talking about the surface, it was great, but the
pitch is made in such a way that in the first half we had go uphill.
A slightly subdued transfer window for the Emirates has seemingly unearthed one very decent
acquisition and one very important bit off damage limitation exorcised!

Thomas Vermaelen
The former Ajax captain has fitted in just perfectly.
Arsenal has announced all their pre-season friendly games.
The curtain raiser is the trip to Underhill to face Barnet on 18 July. The squad then flies
off to Austria for our traditional summer training camp. This could be the last Austrian training
camp as the club is moving into the 21st Century and is contemplating a Far East or American tour
for future years.
Slow old summer, isn't it? Other than the Confederations Cup, the U21 finals, Wimbledon, the
Lions tour and the Ashes, there's been almost no sport on the telly at all.
We're now just six days short of the pre-season curtain-raiser at Barnet though. That came round
fast.
What kind of a state are Arsenal in?
Philippe Senderos and Eduardo are not part of the group to travel to Barnet for Arsenal's first
pre-season friendly of the summer. Thomas Vermaelen, Tomas Rosicky and Jay Simpson will
feature.

It has been confirmed that Adebayor has signed for manchester City
Manchester City have completed the signing of Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor on a five-year
contract.
The fee for the Togo international has not been disclosed, although the 25-year-old is believed
to have cost City in the region of £25million.
The Gunners drew their first pre season game against Barnet at Underhill after an evenly
contested game.
Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky returned from injury to captain the team. The talented midfielder
played a solid 45 minutes in which he could have scored two goals. The home side were stubborn and
pressing Arsenal but it was the Premiership outfit that created clear cut chances in the first
half.
Apologies for the site not being updated recently. I've had my own computer trouble which meant
that I wasn't able to log onto the Internet! Arsenal drew 2-2 with Barnet yesterday, and after
attending the match at Underhill, I was fantastically impressed to see Tomas Rosicky returning in a
Gunners shirt.
This game was a good test for the Arsenal team, especially to the first team players as Barnet
played with a high tempo.
First let's start with the negative of the game. Remember not being too harsh on any of the
players as this is the first pre season game.
Well Arsenal's new signing Vermaelen did not look to add any height in the team, he did seem to
be quite short and so it proved when Barnet scored their first goal.

The Telegraph has an article on the Arsenal youngsters who might be ready for the big stage.
Jack Wilshere is already making waves. He is now officially the most exciting talent in English
football since Gazza. His performance in the Emirates Cup was singled out by Wenger.
"I've been especially pleased with the performances of Wilshere over the past couple of days
because he has shown how much he has progressed over the past 12 months and he clearly has a
promising future ahead of him.
Becks has the X Factor David Beckham celebrated LA Galaxy's victory over Houston Dynamo in the

Arsenal will be playing German side Hannover 96 just days before the Emirates Cup as Arsene
Wenger's squad plan their pre-season preparations for the 2009/10 campaign. The AWD Arena is home
to Dieter Hecking's experienced team and strong line-up's are very likely. An Austrian tour is also
planned this July.
Last summer on the recommendations of Giles Grimandi Arsenal signed a young French midfielder
from Stade Laval. As with most of Arsenal's French signings Francis Coquelin was a mystery.
He made his debut against Barnet and also played against Szombathelyi Haladás. Even though
the opposition on both occasions was not top rate, Francis showed great potential.
Remarkably, it's less than a month until our first pre-season match, against Barnet on 18th
July.
It's gone fast partly because we've had the U21s, partly because of the Confounded Cup but
principally due to the fact that Wenger has made a statement of intent with an early summer
signing.
Arsenal striker Carlos Vela's first game for Mexico in the Gold Cup lasted only ten minutes
after the young Mexican suffered what looked to be an ankle injury after a tackle from behind in
the game against Nicaragua.
Vela tried to continue but was then substituted by Alberto Medina.
The Gunners' first friendly game of the season is on July 18th against Barnet with their
official campaign kicking off on August 15 away at Everton in the Barclays Premier League.
Arsenal today announced the 21-man squad for the short trip accross London to Barnet for the
opening traditional friendly of the season. Our featured player Nicklas Bendtner will not line up
against the Bee's, nor will several other first teamers such as Eduardo, Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas
or Gael Clichy.
Arsenal get their pre-season friendlies underway tomorrow with the traditional curtain raiser at
Underhill when they face Barnet.
Wenger will take a mixed squad of first team players and reserves. Saturday could see the
return of Rosicky as well as a welcome return from injury for Eduardo and Gallas.
Football is finally back. This past weekend saw most of the Premier League's clubs get back into
action. Michael Owen led United to victory, Tottenham earned a win, while Manchester City's
millions fell to the world powerhouse Orlando Pirates. Here are some highlights of this weekend's
friendly action:

I didn't watch the 2-2 draw with Barnet on Saturday, mainly because there was plenty of meaningful
sport being provided at Turnberry and Lords, so I will not comment on the game. I am also not going
to dwell further on Adebayor. However, the news that Rosicky has taken part in a competitive game is
excellent, as for long parts of last season it looked a distinct possibility that Rosicky's knee
By AriesForget what the tabloids and other newspapers will have you believe. They picked on what
came out of Arsenal with regard to Tomas Rosicky's "minor problem", married it with his absence
from all the friendlies after Barnet and came out with their usual negative headlines about him
suffering a relapse.
Those of us who have been following pre-season relatively closely can't help but have noticed that
a few players have 'vanished' in a 'not gone to city' kind of way. Firstly there is Almunia. Any
word? But, more importantly (from a long term prospect) is the absence of Rosicky since his much
heralded return at Barnet.
These days watching a Royal Shakespeare production is a bit like watching Arsenal at Barnet. The
players are there, the skills are there, but the auditorium isn't. If you are not devoted to
Shakespeare, or you don't live in England, you'll not know that about three years ago the Royal
Shakespeare Theatre [.
by CARL ELDRIDGE Just how good a buy Tommy Vermaelen proves to be can only be measured come the end
of the season but I am not alone in liking what I see so far. I first saw the £10million capture
from Ajax in the annual pre-season friendly against Barnet and two things struck me.
Rushden & Diamonds are next up for Boro as they look to bounce back from their defeat last
weekend to Oxford United. The 2-1 loss at the Kassam Stadium was Boro's only defeat of the season
so far although the Hertfordshire club have also only won 1 match out of the 5 played. Rushden have
faired slightly better recording 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in their opening 5 games.
