Tell Us How EPL Talk Can Improve

EPL Talk 27 October @ 05:30 AM EST

I received an enthusiastic e-mail last week from EPL Talk reader Jake Islas who asked me for advice about how he could create a blog and a vibrant community similar to mine here at EPL Talk. I was tempted to warn him not to venture into the field. The pay is lousy. It requires an incredible amount of hard work.

Who is your 2009 MLS Rookie of the Year?

Soccer By Ives 22 October @ 11:15 AM EST

It's been a fabulous season for rookies in MLS. All across the league, rookies have peppered starting lineups, as the 2009 draft yielded one of the best returns ever.

As a result, narrowing the candidates is a tough call. Two rookies in D.C., Rodney Wallace and Chris Pontius, started almost every single game for United, and Pontius showed his class with a couple of spectacular goals this season.

Evening Links and Thoughts: Rookies Watch

Darrius Barnes is currently leading the way for the rookies. (Getty Images)

Its finally Friday, though I will admit this week has flown by for me due to it being a four-day work week and things being fairly steady on both the regular job front and this place. I had planned to do more than what had been posted today but I blame the weird rainy weather here in Dallas for me not getting around to some of it.

Gareth Bale finally won

Dirty Tackle 28 September @ 03:59 PM EST

"And just when I was starting to blame my hair!"

It took 25 games over more than two years, but Gareth Bale was finally a part of his first Premier League win with Spurs as the club beat Burnley 5-0 on Saturday.

The match was already well in hand when Bale was brought on in the 86th minute with the goal of ending his dubious and undeserved Premier League record streak.

Honestly, I was so damn tired, I didn't even try to spin it like this game in New England was the game where we secure a spot in the playoffs.
"They have been able to stay very consistent in that back four of [Steve] Ralston and [Jay] Heaps on the outside and [Darrius] Barnes and [Emmanuel] Osei in the middle.

SuperLiga Semi-final Live Updates

The Offside - New England Revolution 15 July @ 09:51 PM EST

GAME - Chicago takes the win 2-1 ending the Rev's Superliga run. The Revs didn't deserve a loss, but couldn't make their opportunities count. Chicago, on the other hand, had few chances and their stars were mostly silent, but made a difference when they did strike. I didn't see much from Blanco all game, but his well placed free kick proved too much for the Rev's to overcome.

WPS: FC Gold Pride (3-5-2) at Sol (7-1-4)

Belated greetings from Carson on a day the Sol is celebrating the game that spawned WPS and the U.S. men are catching their breath after seeing everything go exactly right in South Africa (that "we'll take it" look on Coach Bob Bradley's face at game's end said it all).

Runaway WPS leaders the Sol have never even conceded a goal to FC Gold Pride winning two previous encounters 1-0 and 2-0.

Will Steven Gerrard call it quits after the 2013 season?

Anfield Red 16 June @ 09:11 AM EST

Growing up in the early 1980's watching such names as Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Rush and Dalglish fly across the screen, I found it quite difficult to comprehend another player coming through the club having the same type of impact as some of those names.

Then came a lad by the name of Fowler who sent Anfield into raptures on an almost continual basis.

Sensible transfer post #1

Craven Cottage Newsround 01 June @ 02:13 PM EST

Here's Roy's take on the whole thing. No mention of Michael Owen, mind.

"I think signing players in the summer is going to be difficult for a lot of clubs. We're in a recession and clubs are looking more and more at what's going on around them.

"We're seeing many clubs, big clubs like Southampton, in grave difficulty and I think that's going to colour everyone's view of transfer policies and wages during the summer.

Defending set pieces can be difference in success

MIKE JACOBS 20 May @ 08:20 AM EST
With so many goals scored off of set pieces, a key component in a team's success is normally how well they defend free kicks.
This has been a staple of the New England Revolution's success in the past, but as MLSnet.com's Kyle McCarthy reports, the number of goals conceded thus far in the 2009 season has been as much a part of their downfall as their injuries. Click to continue reading...

Gerrard, designado Jugador del Año en Inglaterra

La FWA (Football Writers' Association) ha concedido el galardón de mejor 'Jugador del Año' en la Premier League a Steven Gerrard, capitán del Liverpool. Much kudos goes to Gerrard

My Anfield 13 May @ 06:02 AM EST
It's weird to think that it's been so long since a Liverpool player last won the Footballer of the Year Award from the Football Writers' Association. Me thinks it was Barnes all the way back in 1990.
Although my own preference would have been for Xabi Alonso to win due to his consistently brilliant performances this season. Click to continue reading...

Rumors, Rookies and Reality

Center Holds It 15 April @ 09:50 AM EST
I'm having a hard time figuring out whether New York RedBulls fans are, on the whole relieved or saddened by COMMISSIONER DON GARBER'S UNEQUIVOCAL DENIAL of the rumor about the team being sold.
On the one hand, a lot of fans have never been particularly comfortable with the whole "Corporate/Energy Drink" angle, and while there are some out there who turned their back on the team the day the Austrian caffeine vendor took over, by and large most of the locals were able to hold their nose through the Metrostars-to-RedBull transition and continute to support the side.
