"It is the dream for every top class footballer to play at a top class club and now I can do
that."
Welcome
Ladies and gentlemen, Fernando Torres is officially a Chelsea player. Can you believe it? I know
I can't. This whole day has been surreal.
Obviously this was the transfer that dominated the day, and it wasn't confirmed until the final
minutes of the window.
One is an in-form Arsenal midfielder, the other is a very obvious and unfunny
comedian...and it just so happens that they look a like...(Cheers Guradian blog for pointing the
likeness out!)
During his early career Nasri gained more praise than your typical god.
We're almost a third of the year through the 2011-12 Premier League season, and already several
summer signings have stood out as comparatively bargain buys. Which clubs have done their best

First we all thought Mark Hughes was a shoe-in, then came the swiftly kiboshed whispers that
Carlo Ancelotti was favourite for the job, then Schteve McClaren was ruled in and swiftly ruled out
again quicker than you can say 'Croatia on a wet Wednesday' (apparently he was told by Villa execs
that he would be 'wasting his time' by attending an interview harsh), then rumours began
spreading that Rafa Benitez was all but set to step in but you can forget all that baloney, for it
now looks like the man Aston Villa want to replace Gerard Houllier is none other than Wigan manager
Roberto Martinez.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Newcastle are in the lead for former West striker and now free

there's little doubt that the 26 year-old would be a bargain buy, although Newcastle would need to

Welcome to my small series of 'blogs looking at Newcastle United's new signings in the latest
transfer window. First cab off the rank will be Yohan Cabaye. Cabaye, who's recent signing was
broken on Joey Barton's Twitta, and this 'blog, was signed from Lille OSC for £4.3 million, which
must be something of a bargain [.
When Arsenal were linked with a move for the Argentinian playmaker Ricky Alvarez it seemed like a
tpical Wenger surprise signing, and when the player himself tweeted that it would be "a dream" to
play for Arsenal it seemed like Wenger had nabbed yet another bargain. But today it has been
announced that the Italian [.

Attacking proficiency on the right side of our defense is not exactly something we've possessed
in recent seasons. That's hardly a secret.
Sure, Branislav Ivanovic has been outstanding as a fullback. Outstanding in the face of being
forced into the position. Applaud the man. Still, no matter how much we love him (and trust me we
do), his ability in the offensive third of the field has never been of elite quality.
I think it's fair to say that Andy Carroll has struggled at Liverpool since his 35m move from
Newcastle. Things just haven't gone according to plan, and lately, he's found it increasingly hard
to break into the first team. At Chelsea on Sunday, Carroll was given only three measly minutes of
pitch time, but in that short period, he delivered a mini-masterclass of footballing technique,
skill, movement, and composure on the ball, and offered a compelling reminder of why Kenny Dalglish
handed over 35m for his services.
Berlin will no longer be the only major European capital without a top flight football team.
Hertha won promotion back to the Bundesliga with with three games left to play, after beating
DFB-Pokal finalists Duisburg 1-0 in the 2. Bundesliga's Monday night match. Since this was an away
match, Hertha had to postpone the big party until Friday, when they'll host 1860 Munich.

Given that this year's awards involved a six man panel nominating across three leagues of twenty
four, there was bound to be divergence in opinion but in the Bargain Buy category we also
encountered a further dilemma: what, 'in these challenging times', constitutes a good deal? He

after an injury-riddled season he is now persona non gratis at White Hart Lane. But he has only had

It's only the preseason, and already a long off-week between matches is making time drag in a
way it didn't during the weeks in June and July when there wasn't any Liverpool football waiting
tantalisingly out of reach. For those content with being out of Europe and so avoiding those
somnambulant Europa League group stage Thursdays, this is your future.
Arsene Wenger is (or at least should be!) looking at some cover for Alex Song in the Arsenal
midfield, especially now that Denilson is on the other side of the world and Abou Diaby has become
the Gunners latest sick-note. Well according to the Metro, Arsenal are lining up a £6m bid for the
Argentina [.

Given to Spurs by Jose Mourinho as a gift No-one's quite sure why - perhaps it was to keep
Liverpool down in their place. Who knows. The official 2010 Bargain of the Season. Signed for a
ridiculously cheap £8 million, he bounded into the Spurs team and immediately set about making us
look bloody awesome as a result.
Wolves are on the verge of signing Dundee striker Leigh Griffiths for a reported £150,000. It's
being reported that Griffiths is set to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract for the Molineux outfit
by the end of the transfer window.
The Dundee striker already finds himself sitting on ten league goals in the SPL this season, and
Wolves are in need of a striker who could lead them out of a difficult relegation battle.
1. Winning the derby has always been a great feeling but over the past few years, the pressure
has been on. When City were shit, they still managed to hand out drubbings to our team that would
go on to be champions, and not much was made of it outside of Manchester/Stockport. These days
though, even if City got a fluky 1-0, the talk of the power shift in Manchester would go in to
overdrive.

Value is in the eye of the beholder when constructing a soccer club. When it comes to defenders and
goalkeepers Arsene Wenger prefers to shop at the European version of WalMart.Sir Alex Ferguson,
being Scottish and all, loves a bargain. His penny-pinching ways sometimes work with a guy like
Chicharito, a little less so when trolling the Portuguese third division for former homeless

On Friday night it was revealed that Luis Fabiano has returned to Brazil with Sao Paulo, on a
four year deal, for a fee of 7.6 million euros. This seems like a bargain for a player with such
class.
It only makes you wonder why Tottenham did not take a gamble on this player in January?
Fittingly, Bob Gansler was lecturing at a coaching clinic in Florida when he heard the news on
Tuesday.
Gansler, who coached the Kansas City Wizards (now known as Sporting Kansas City) to their only
two MLS Cup appearances — winning the championship 2000 — was elected Tuesday to the National

Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote reflects on his progress this season and looks to improve

century given that we paid FC Twente a mere £3.5m for him. Tiote would certainly be a contender

(30:03:11) Possibly not for the first time, the wishes of UEFA and FIFA differ to that of another

Goal of the season? Bargain buy? Flop? Our writers pick the best and the worst from the 2010-11
Premier League season and, yep, Nedum Onuoha and Cheik Tioté both make it.
Ex-Chelsea man Ray Wilkins heaped praise on Danny Sturridge and believes he "can be anything he
wants to be" as far as his football career is concerned.
Wilkins said:
"He's an enormously talented guy, he's extremely quick and I've seen him rip the
Chelsea senior players to pieces in training but that has obviously got to be translated on to the
Saturday afternoon.

Not bad for a day's work Sunderland have, as of a few hours ago, officially wrapped up three
pretty decent signings, with Wes Brown and John O'Shea putting pen to paper after serving for a
combined total of 28 years with Manchester United, and ex-Blackpool terrier David Vaughan
arriving on a freebie with four-year, four-year and three-year deals agreed respectively.
