A very complicated situation for the 21 years old Mexican has continued as he was once again in
the stands at Emirates, as his teammates could secure a tough win over West Ham United in the
Barclays Premiership.
I don't really know what is in mind of Wenger, but the way he is treating Carlos Vela is really
terrible.
While La Liga, The Premiership, and Serie A remain similar in their table standings, the season end
is nigh. Twente mathematically win the Dutch Eredivisie (Viva McLaren!) and Bayern Munich also
practically claim the German title (unless Schalke 04 magically equal the massive goal difference
after getting equal on points with Bayern), while Marseille is very close to winning the French
title.
Lots of news has occured lately, and with a weekend of action coming up, five Premiership matches
were postponed, here is a list of the matches postponed:
Hull City - Chelsea
Burnley - Stoke City
Sunderland - Bolton
Fulham - Portsmouth
Liverpool - Tottenham
Togo National Team Attacked on way to ANC Cup
The Togo National team bus was attacked by gunmen on their way to the African Nations Cup, the
driver was killed, and two players were hit by bullets, goalkeeper Obilale Kossi, and Serge Akakpo.
There was a small sign on the horizon for Mexican hitman Carlos Vela as he returned to the bench
in Arsenal's shocking draw against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
The young 21 years old got the call by Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger for the 18-man strong
squad, but Wenger never had in his mind to let the young Mexican play against the Blues.
It's one of the biggest arguments all non Manchester United fans have against United, that none
of United's fans are from Manchester and that where all glory hunting supporters that don't truly
follow the club, well here's my retaliation in defence of myself and United's foreign fans all
around the globe.
Chelsea FC won the English Premier League in 2009-10. Will they do it again in 2010-11?
Football is well and truly coming home this weekend with each of the individual championships up
and running in the British Isles. The Carling Premiership in Northern Ireland is already seven days
old whilst its equivalents in England, Scotland and Wales all look forward to the big kick-off.
So many goals, 38 goals to be exact. With so many teams thrashing others, the Premier League is
really beginning to get exciting. Along with this, Chelsea have achieved the best start in Premier
League history, two wins and a goal difference of 12 goals. And now, let's see how many teams got
thrashed, starting with Liverpool.
Didier Drogba has carried on where he left off last season for Chelsea FC
Just three weeks into the new season and it's a case of as you were in England and Scotland as
familiar names lie in the top spots in each league. In England champions Chelsea are the only team
with a 100% record following their 2-0 victory over Stoke City at the weekend but familiar foes
Manchester United and Arsenal FC aren't far behind.
Now the world's top football leagues have kicked off: The Premier League continues to be dominated
by Chelsea, Barcelona pick up where they left off in La Liga, and AC Milan romp to first place in
the Serie A. Soon enough the transfer window will close, and as last minute deals are beginning to
be strung together, teams need to begin to returning to their last season's stride, or else.
The steely gaze of a winner...Well, I've decided that after this weekend's action I'll be focussing
on Liverpool a bit. Of course they'll be some coverage of the other leagues, but a little less than
usual.
And before I begin, just in case you haven't already seen these posts, you should because they're
getting insane amounts of views!
Not sure what matches to watch this weekend? Well, I've decided that before every weekend I'll be
writing a little preview post entitled, "Matches To Watch This Weekend" where I try and find
enticing fixtures for you to watch. I hope you enjoy it.
Barcelona - Villarreal
With two weeks before Barcelona and Real Madrid clash in "El Clasico", Guardiola's team will
have to face Villarreal.
This weekend is a big one; in all three leagues (Serie A, English Premier League, and La Liga) we
have some big matches. What we also have this weekend is the FIFA World Club Cup Final between TP
Mazembe and Inter Milan, and it is the first time that an African side has reached the final of
this tournament.
This week was full of Italian and Spanish action, but with many matches postponed in the
premiership, it seems that it affected Arsenal and Manchester United, both drawing with opposition
that they would normally expect to get a win.
Birmingham City - Manchester UnitedManchester United drew 1-1 with a fantastic Birmingham, sound in defence and deadly when going
forward, Birmingham are now in a fantastic eighth place, proving that working as a team is more
important than throwing big money players on a pitch.
The Director of the Mexican FA (FMF) Nestor de la Torre has admitted towards the Mexican press
that he wants to hold talks with Arsenal Football Club about Carlos Vela's situation there, as well
as he wants to enter talks with the Arsenal Manager on the possible availability to get the young
Mexican before the regular Premiership campaign ends for the Gunners.
With so much football action these past weeks, what used to be just a weekend of football became
more than a great match a day thanks to the FA Cup, Carling Cup, Copa Del Rey, Coppa Italia, and
all the missed matches due to the bad weather. Good thing the SWU crew is here to wrap it all up
for you in a tasty meal of footy action.
Mexican winger Carlos Vela has struggled a lot against Stoke City, as the Potters were able to
romp the Gunners by 3:1 at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was definately a
dissapointing afternoon for the young 20 years old as he tried a lot, but nothing should work for
the forward on this day.
What can only be described as a fantastic week of football took place, with massive matches we have
seen the resurgence of some teams, and the downfall of others.
Arsenal - Manchester United
A match which will inspire Manchester United to charge for the title no doubt, a fantastic
performance by the red devils buries Arsenal's title hopes.
A weekend with great action, this could be the resurgence of Liverpool, and downfall of Arsenal,
especially seeing that the two teams will play each other next week.
Chelsea - Arsenal
Drogba never misses a chance to destroy Arsenal, it doesn't matter that he has just come back from
the African Cup of Nations, Didier rolls his sleeves up and provides us with two goals that could
spell the end of the title challenge for Arsenal.

This weekend must be described as liberating for me, not only is an american finally proving his
worth abroad, Landycakes at Everton, but we are finally seeing some fantastic football by Real
Madrid, guided by its galacticos.
Real Madrid - VillarealWe start at the Santiago Bernabeu, Manuel Pellegrini was under a lot of pressure after the Lyon
loss, and it seemed that Villareal was finally rising up the tables in La Liga, but a spectacular
free kick by Ronaldo in the 18th minute seemed to put the game to bed, and only 2 minutes later
Kaka' put a penalty away.
The John Terry scandal has probably affected Terry's playing much more
than anyone thought it to, and maybe this weekend he was feeling some
guilt for his former England teammate Wayne Beidge who refused to
shake Terry's hand. Not only this, but it seems that Manchester United
have no trouble winning thanks to their wonderboy Rooney who helped
them win the Carling Cup over Aston Villa.
This weekend was filled with cup action in England, allowing footy fans to watch leagues from
around the world. And the only Premiership match that took place was one in which an American
scored, hoping that Donovan can continue with Everton.
In England, Everton - Hull City finished 5-1 for the toffees, Arteta netted two, with
Donovan scoring one and giving a great assist for Rodwell.
A weekend which includes a revitalized Serie A, Messi showing why he's number 1, and Rooney
continuing his fantastic form. Not only all this, but in the Eredivisie a fantastic match between
Ajax and PSV ended 4-1 for Ajax after some fantastic goals, especially a rocket shot by Emanuelson
that went into the top right corner.
This week was massive in La Liga and the Premiership, Serie A not so much due to AC
Milan's inability to take 1st place, and while Real and Barcelona continue to be tied, Manchester
United are looking to get their fourth Premier League title in a row.
Manchester United - Liverpool
A match which could've propelled Liverpool closer towards fourth place, and it seemed like they
would be able to after Fernando Torres scored a great header in the 5th minute, helping Liverpool
take the lead at Old Trafford.
Two epic matches this weekend which help shape the future of their leagues, not only this, but the
so-called smaller matches also provide an insight to maybe how positions will shift in the
table...
Roma - Inter Milan
This match was being described as the biggest match of the year in Italian press, and although 2-1
may seem like a rather dull score-line, it was full of action.
With massive matches looming over footy fans, the seasons are beginning to come to their end, this
is where teams need to make the games in hand and home matches count. Whether they're pushing for a
Champions League spot or fighting relegation.
A small bit of news for any fans of the Championship, Newcastle have been mathematically promoted
into the Premiership, returning to the heights they were at last year.
This weekend has defined the potential champions of La Liga, Serie A, and the Premiership. Barca
pull ahead of Real Madrid in El Clasico, Roma overtake Inter Milan to possibly end Inter's scudetto
run, and Manchester United drop points at Blackburn giving Chelsea a chance to run even further
away with first.
Tottenham Hotspur - Arsenal
Tottenham finally win an extremely important North London derby against Arsenal at White Heart
Lane, being a bit of a Spurs fan myself, I was glad to see them pull off a deserved win over the
Gooners. The scoring started in the 10th minute when Almunia punched a ball right to the young
starter Rose, giving the boy a chance to viciously volley the ball past Almunia.
All the title races in the big leagues are really starting to heat up now, and with the upcoming
World Cup, how a club does could affect major players and their teams when it comes to World Cup
Odds. Another interesting reflection on the upcoming summer is about the amount of job movement
we'll see by managers, as reported by Goal.
Just a quick update with midweek action starting with silverware being dealt out in Italy and
France.
Coppa Italia
Inter Milan won the Coppa Italia (Italian FA Cup) 1-0 over Roma in the final with a wonder-goal by
Diego Milito. But what you should look out for this match is Totti's wild kick at Balotelli, here's
a video with the kick below.
It's sad to see the season finishing off, it's almost as if you've ended a long relationship with a
lover which has had it's ups and downs. And although European leagues are finishing off, there are
the attractions of the MLS, and the Brazilian Championship which are beginning, but it just doesn't
feel the same.
Chelsea clinched the Barclays Premiership title. The Soccer Weblog Chelsea match-winner Frank
Lampard struck twice as the Blues secured their first title in 50 years with a 2-0 victory at
Bolton. Blues captain John Terry felt title success was fully ...
While there have been plenty of injuries with the upcoming World Cup like Ferdinand, Ballack,
Pirlo, Altidore, Robben, Essien, and Africa's very own Drogba, there have been two very interesting
signings which have made their way to the English Premier League.
Both of them are German and only one of them will be going to the World Cup, they're Jerome Boateng
and Thomas Hitzlsperger.
Berbatov scored?!The Premiership has started, now all of the preseason enigmas will slowly be
solved until we finally realize who's the best team in England.
While Chelsea hasn't changed much from last season, they're still a very powerful team, and they
could retain the title if they continue like they started.
Aforementioned in this post, SWU is following Bartek Kalanski's journey in the Nike: The Chance
competition. As a young goalkeeper, Bartek has plenty of competition, but if you go on his facebook
page and check out his videos, you'll certainly understand why SWU is supporting him! Be sure to
like his facebook page as he could become a professional keeper one day, and he's going to get a
chance with the Nike competition.
Kenwyne Jones celebrating his goal against Aston VillaThis weekend was wonderful for me. A return
to domestic football which has begun to really excite me with plenty of surprise results. And there
was another thing which made my weekend, there were plenty of goals scored. I'm not just talking
Serie A, where there were 35 goals scored in the last slate of games, but there were exciting
matches everywhere.
While the Serie A looks to return to normality with Inter Milan near the top, Spain's La Liga is
looking competitive, and in the EPL Chelsea is running away four points ahead of second-placed
Arsenal. The Bundesliga looks very interesting with Bayern Munich ninth, seven points behind first
placed Mainz 05, and the Ligue 1 looks very complicated with plenty of teams fighting for the
title.
In case you haven't noticed, there have been some boring games but awesome results this weekend.
Roma vs. Inter Milan is one among many which was relatively boring, but the result has huge
ramifications for just about every other team in the Serie A. Another example is Real Madrid's 0-0
draw with Levante, which although wasn't extremely exciting, caused Los Blancos to fall behind
their rivals, Barcelona.
This week I'm writing about three clubs from three different leagues, but they're all overachieving
this beginning of the season. Villareal, Newcastle, and Lazio are all getting fantastic results
this season, but the question is, can they continue this good form?
A group hug after a fantastic goal by Andre Dias
Lazio
Lazio had a very disappointing 2009/10 season, they arrived 12th in the Serie A after a bad run in
the Europa League as well.
