The English Premier League starts back up after a few weeks off due to World Cup Qualifying in
Europe. There are several interesting matches this weekend in the EPL, including unbeaten Tottenham
Hotspur hosting Manchester United. In the USA, there are several matches that will be broadcasted
on Fox Soccer Channel, ESPN2, and Setanta Sports.
Week 4 of the Barclays Premier League starts with a top of the table clash. The Big 4 Club is about
to be gatecrashed by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. This should be the weekend where Spurs
and City prove that they can lay legitimate claim to an expansion of the Big 4 to a Super Six.
Winning against Manchester United and Arsenal respectively will really make the football world sit
up and take notice.
Premier League Team News - Barclays Premier League - ESPN SoccernetNo certainty of O'Hara playing
for Pompey - I like the thought of him as a cheap option but I'm not willing to go too far out on a
limb until I know how (and if) they intend to deploy him regularly. More a BD option than
something for this week if you ask me (and you sort of did by being here to read this column).
At kick-off on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool and Burnley lined up as equals according to the
Barclays Premier League table. Within a couple of hours, any ideas that such an unlikely equality
could last had been ruthlessly dismissed.
Liverpool scored four times but, such was their dominance as the game wore on, could have
underlined their superiority with several more goals.
Benfica have handed Argentina star Angel di Maria a gold-plated contract in a bid to see off
interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
The winger is about to sign a one-year extension on his contract that will see his buy-out clause
raised from £27million to a prohibitive £45m.
There is no denying that Liverpool F.C. is the form team in the
Barclays Premier League at the moment. Rafa's Reds have defied
all odds to overcome a frustrating start to the campaign and surprisingly, the Steven
Gerrard - Fernando Torres pairing isn't exclusively responsible for leading the
revival.
Burned his Villa bridges?
Nigel Reo-Coker has been told to stay away from Villa Park this weekend after Martin
O'Neill sent the player home from training yesterday and dropped him for Aston Villa's Barclays
Premier League home game against Portsmouth today because the pair had a
confrontation.
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has told his team-mates they must take risks if they want to win
the Barclays Premier League this season.
The Reds' title bid has already suffered an early setback after they lost at Tottenham on the
opening day followed by a defeat at home to Aston Villa - and only a 90th minute winner from Steven
Gerrard save their skins at Bolton last weekend.
Peter Gulacsi is hoping his new Liverpool contract will prove to be a stepping stone towards the
Reds' first-team.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper put pen to paper on a new deal last month that will keep him at Anfield
until 2013.
Gulacsi is delighted to have committed his future to the club and, having been named as a
substitute for last weekend's Barclays Premier League clash with Bolton, admits his long-term
ambition is to establish himself in Liverpool's first-team setup.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher insists the Anfield club are not worried about the threat posed
by Manchester City and Spurs.
Mark Hughes and Harry Redknapp have guided their side's to 100 percent starts - with many tipping
the the early-season pacesetters to break into the top four.
Crewe's Director of Football thinks we should be afraid, very afraid!
Crewe have reported an unnamed Premier League club to the Football Association for an
alleged illegal approach for one of its young players.
Director of football Dario Gradi revealed the Coca-Cola League Two club had complained in the wake
of Fifa's decision to ban Chelsea from signing any players until January 2011.

Rafa has another youngster to add to his budding crop of talent.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have sealed a £250,000 deal with Southend United for the transfer
of Michael Ngoo, a 16-year-old centre forward who was also being watched by Manchester United.
Ngoo, who is 6ft 4in and has been likened in style to Peter Crouch, impressed during a recent trial
with United but Liverpool have beaten their North West rivals to his signature after meeting
Southend's asking price.
Keep your chin up, Arsene Wenger... it's Sir Alex Ferguson who has reason for
worry
He [Ferguson] has to convince his stuttering side that they can succeed without Cristiano
Ronaldo and remain among the European elite. And it might just work, even if three of the four
Barclays Premier League games they have so far contested have exposed worrying deficiencies that
could seriously undermine their chances of becoming the first team to win four successive English
titles.
Another weekend of drama went by and these are exactly what makes the English Premier League the
most entertaining football league in the world.
On a Saturday that Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the Real Madrid bench, Emmanuel Adebayor managed
to do everything right, catapulting him into cult status among the City fans as well as becoming
public enemy no.

Fernando Torres scored twice as Liverpool held off a brave fightback from West Ham to earn a
deserved 3-2 victory in a five-goal thriller at Upton Park.
Torres put the Reds in front in the 19th minute with a fine solo goal but debutant Alessandro
Diamanti levelled from the penalty spot.
Didier Drogba is facing a spell on the sidelines regardless of the results of a scan on the Chelsea
striker's right calf last night.
Carlo Ancelotti hopes that Drogba is merely suffering from severe cramp after being carried off on
a stretcher during the second half of Sunday's 3-0 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur, but the
manager was planning on resting him for the next three matches in any case.
Since I did not do the EPL review for week 5, I figured I'd might as well combined weeks 5 and 6
together in this bumper post on the Barclays Premier League weekend matches review.
Week 5 was all about the fiercely contested Manchester derby in which an Adebayor-less Manchester
City traded punches with Man United.
Graham Poll on diving.
"It was on the eve of the start to the Barclays Premier League season, when Sir Alex
Ferguson spoke with authority and insight. 'Players who cheat are killing the game, not the
referees,' observed the manager of the champions."
Straight of the bat, Poll reveals his bias.
Thanks to all those who had followed The Flat Back Four on Twitter today. To say that we had a
great time chatting and tweet-ing about possible transfer moves would be stretching it a bit. In
fact, it was quite the opposite. When the expectation and hype gets built up so much and all we get
is a £12m Michael Turner switch from Hull City to Sunderland, then it's time we face the facts and
realise that this is as good as it gets in the Barclays Premier League this season.
Rafael Benitez has warned that it is too early to write off Liverpool's Barclays Premier League
title chances.
The Liverpool manager believes his side can build on last month's 3-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers
by embarking on an unbeaten run in the league. Liverpool lost two of their opening three matches,
but Steven Gerrard's late winner secured a 3-2 victory at the Reebok Stadium and Benitez is backing
his side to build on that victory.

League this season.
The Reds moved up to fifth in the table on Saturday with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Burnley,
but they have already suffered two defeats in their opening five league fixtures this year,
including a humiliating 3-1 loss to Aston Villa at Anfield.
UEFA have approved plans to bar high-rolling Barclays Premier League clubs from the Champions
League if they spend beyond their means.
Michel Platini has got his way on 'financial fair play' rules that in principle will ban clubs from
spending more than they make from their revenues.
Fernando Torres is sure the English top flight is still the world's greatest league - and is
determined to help Liverpool become its champions once again.

halted all title talk on Merseyside.

Liverpool FC striker Dirk Kuyt says the Reds can make Anfield a more profitable venue in terms of
Premier League points having struggled to break down teams at home last season.
Seven draws against the likes of Stoke, Fulham, West Ham and Hull ultimately cost Rafa Benitez's
side what would have been a first title in 20 years as they finished second, four points behind
Manchester United.
