It seems one of the things that may have prompted MLS to consider major changes to the schedule
might have been the words of ex-LA Galaxy boss, Ruud Gullit. In this interview with Britain's Daily
Mail he give MLS some constructive criticism that many readers here likely agree with.
Here is an excerpt:

Former LA Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit says there's a lot that needs to change in MLS.

Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of winger Albert Riera from Espanyol after the
Spaniard flew to Merseyside for a medical.
The terms of his transfer have agreed between the two clubs, so now Riera, 26, needs only to
satisfy Liverpool's medics about his fitness for the deal to be finalised.

Arsenal thinking long-term and offer Wenger a new role to keep him on board
Arsene Wenger is to be offered a role on the Arsenal board as part of a long-term strategy to keep
hold of the most successful manager in the club's history.
In a move which has echoes of the ‘job for life' promise made by former vice-chairman David
Dein, the role has already been discussed tentatively by senior board members at Arsenal.

The Arab invasion of the Barclays Premier League seems certain to continue, with Liverpool's
American owners weakening in their resistance to selling the club to Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of
Dubai. Tom Hicks vetoed an attempted sale by George Gillett Jr, his co-chairman at Anfield, this
year, but the American tycoons are expected to return to the negotiating table as an unforgiving
financial climate takes a toll on their ambitions for the club.

Marco Borriello's fascinations with GoldenMcNuggets' cannoli. Why English women have dirty

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen has warned Rafael Benitez that signing wide players is more important
than bringing Gareth Barry or Robbie Keane to Anfield.
Benitez has made no secret of his attempts to sign midfielder Barry and striker Keane - but neither
would add much of the width Hansen feels Liverpool need if they are to challenge Manchester United
or Chelsea for the Barclays Premier League title.
Robbie Keane is relishing the prospect of teaming up with Fernando Torres after completing his
£20.3million move from Tottenham to Liverpool.
Keane, the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland captain, agreed a four-year deal at Anfield after
undergoing a medical at Liverpool's Melwood training ground and could now establish a
mouth-watering partnership in attack with Spain striker Torres.
Matchday one is now gone and we look forward to another weekend of action from the Barclays
Premier League. As I mentioned last week, I'm going to be tracking my performance in the same
manner IKTS does.
Even I will admit I was pretty bad by predictions standards last week. Only six out of ten
correct, none on the nose.
Liverpool have today finally beaten Manchester United at Anfield today after seven years without a
victory against the Premier League Champions. The Merseyside giants came into today's game unbeaten
in the Premier League along with their rivals, but were desperate to secure three points after
several years without a victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
Today's big game in the Premier League saw Chelsea and Manchester draw 1-1. In truth both Luis
Filipe Scolari and Sir Alex Ferguson will be reasonably happy with the point although with Chelsea
being at home, Scolari may feel a little upset.
Man United's Ji-Sung Park put the visitors in front after Chelsea keeper Peter Cech parried Dimitar
Berbatov's straight into the path of the on-rushing Park.

Gareth Barry would consider pulling the plug on his prospective move to Liverpool from Aston Villa
if the transfer is not resolved come the start of the Barclays Premier League season in eight days'
time.
Barry is eager to join Liverpool, but the England midfield player is becoming increasingly
concerned about the amount of time the deal is taking, after Villa paved the way for the move last
weekend, and he is not willing to wait much longer.
Andriy Voronin scored at the death to give Liverpool a 1-0 win over SS Lazio at Anfield in their
last pre-season friendly.
The kick-off of Liverpool's pre-season friendly against Lazio tonight was delayed until 20:15
because of ticketing problems.
New signings Robbie Keane and Andrea Dossena were making their Anfield debuts against Lazio, with
Pepe Reina and Damien Plessis returning to the starting XI in place of Diego Cavalieri and injured
captain Steven Gerrard.
Fabio Aurelio hopes to give Rafael Benitez a selection headache by declaring himself available for
Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener in Sunderland.
The Brazilian left-back has been on the sidelines for most of pre-season with a shin injury but he
is now back in training and determined to be fit for the big kick-off.

Club versus country is a perennial struggle. I used to play for England, suffer an injury and the
letters from Liverpool fans would question me for putting my country first.
It seemed harsh at the time, especially when I was nursing a broken ankle, but they had a point: I
was being paid by Liverpool and missing matches through injuries collected in an England shirt.
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan launched a stern defence of Joey Barton after the controversial
midfielder endured a hot reception on his return to action in Saturday's 3-0 Barclays Premier
League defeat at Arsenal. Barton - who was recently released early from a jail sentence following a
conviction for assault and affray - was sent on for [.

The Apparent Return of Gerry Francis to Football is being noted:
Gerry Francis who made his QPR debut forty years ago (coming on as a sixteen year-old sub against
Liverpool at Loftus Road); spent two periods as a player at QPR and two periods as manager at QPR,
is poised to return to football coaching, at Stoke City.
Rafael Benitez is hopeful a tactical switch off the field of play will help Liverpool generate an
atmosphere to send shivers down the spines of any side visiting Anfield this season.
The Reds boss believes the introduction of the Barclays Premier League anthem has curbed the impact
of the club's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and feels that asking fans to sing the famous song
just prior to kick-off will help give his side a psychological edge.
Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle believes current boss Juande Ramos has "a mammoth
task" on his hands to turn around the club's faltering start to the Barclays Premier League
season. Ramos has picked up just a solitary point from his opening four league games this season to
leave Spurs floundering at the foot of the table [.
Liverpool maintained their advantage with a slender 1 – 0 victory over Portsmouth. Tony Adams
in his first game in charge after being confirmed as Harry Redknapp's replacement looked as though
his charges would suffocate their hosts before Diop handled in the area with fourteen minutes
remaining, L'il Stevie Gerrard despatched the resultant penalty.
The 2010-2011 season could be a turning point for the Premier League. ESPN could have the TV rights
to the league by then and could share it with either Sky Sports or Setanta Sports in the UK, and
possibly Setanta Sports in the United States. And now we learn that the Premier League may have

The halfway point of the Premier League season has been reached and overall few surprises have

How they are actually performing is another matter. Manchester United Grade: A An impressive run

Manchester United's winner against Birmingham City at the weekend has re-opened the debate over the
issue of putting the ball into touch when an opponent is injured. Rio Ferdinand and Cameron Jerome
collided when challenging from the ball, the latter left in a crumpled heap having found
Ferdinand's boot in his thigh.
Dopo il portiere Cech, anche il centrocampista ghanese Michael Essien ha firmato un nuovo contratto
con il Chelsea fino a giugno 2013.
Da Calciomercato.com
Comunicato Ufficiale FC Chelsea:
Essien next to extend
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm that Michael Essien has signed a new five-year
contract that keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2013.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez refused to admit the Barclays Premier League title has become his
number one priority as the Merseyside club prepares to successfully conclude their summer-long
quest to sign Gareth Barry.
Villa have already rejected a number of bids which fell short of their £18million valuation
but manager Martin O'Neill admitted the door was open for Benitez to come in again with an
acceptable bid for his skipper.
On the eve of the new Barclays Premier League campaign Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina has spoken of his
belief that Rafael Benitez has assembled a squad capable of winning 'the most difficult competition
in the world'.
With hopes and expectations high ahead of the big kick-off Reina - Liverpool's penalty saving hero
against Standard Liege on Wednesday night - insists the Reds have never been better equipped to end
their 18-year wait for the title to return to Anfield.
There are myriad annual sporting events: Wimbledon, The Six Nations, The British Open Championships
and of course the Barclays Premier League. Internally, The Premier League has it's own
idiosyncratic, yearly occurrences and every Arsenal fan's personal favourite is the Gunners 4th
place prediction.
So Week 2 of the new Barclays Premier League season is over and following the fixtures on Saturday,
there were Sunday wins for Chelsea and Man City whilst on Monday evening, Man Utd also gained their
first win of the season. I feel I have to start with the Chelsea game, but not because of Chelsea

Olympic gold medallist Javier Mascherano will almost certainly be plunged into Liverpool's tough
away Barclays Premier League game at Aston Villa on Sunday.
The match has added spice after the summer of disagreement between Villa boss Martin O'Neill and
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez over the drawn-out saga of Gareth Barry's on-off move to Anfield.
The Fulham midfield player is widely regarded as the Barclays Premier League's court jester, a
likeable individual whose infectious sense of fun is best demonstrated by the occasion when he
treated the Real Madrid squad to an impromptu performance of Old MacDonald Had a Farm during
a chance encounter in the bar of an Austrian hotel during a pre-season tour.
