The ten FIFA nominees for the Puskas Award 2011 ("Goal of the Year' in Layman's terms) have been
announced, and the shortlist looks something* like this...
Ok while the lines in the title are attributed to the belligerent American tennis star John
McEnroe, they were exactly the words echoing across my mind (and am sure several million others) on
tuesday night. As the referee pulled out the yellow and red cards in succession on account of a
"technical foul" by Robin Van Persie and sent him off, the footballing world was left
dumbfounded.
Arsenal are out of the Champions League. The challenge came unstuck once again at Barcelona and
once again at the feet of Lionel Messi. The Argentinean maestro opened the scoring in first-half
injury time and fired home the tie-clinching penalty in the 71st minute.
Robin van Persie was sent off. Sounds OK but the reason of his sent off is just a bit special
this time. He was not sent off for showing studs, neither for abusing the referee, neither for
hitting anybody (though some CUNTalunyan did try to kill him), but no, so why was he sent off?
FC Barcelona vs Arsenal Promise to be yet another classic
FC Barcelona and Arsenalbuild up into the most important match of this season so far in
contrasting fashion. Played your opponent out of the park, is an under-statement when it comes to

inaccurate if one is to consider the many factors associated with the World Cup and involved in the
buildup to the biggest sports tournament in the world.
FC Barcelona - 6, Arsenal - 3 on Aggregate
FC Barcelona booked their place in this season's UEFA Champions League Semi-Final against Inter
Milan with a convincing 4-1 defeat of Arsenal at Camp Nou. Once again it was the night of the
"Little Magician" from Rosario - Lionel Messi, who scored all the four goals for Barca.
Sky describe tonight's FC Barcelona vs Arsenal game as "one of the biggest
in Arsenal's history", which judging by the mood amongst fans out in the Catalan capital may
well be true. "If we qualify it'll be on a par with Anfield '89″ claimed one Arsenal
fan, though the half-empty pint swaying in his hand and glazed, fixed stare on his face implied he
could have been standing outside Underhill, Barnet for a friendly and still said the same.
