Liverpool have joined the race to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez, reports the
Metro.
Martinez has a growing list of suitors after impressing for both club and country in recent years,
and was an integral part of the Bilbao team that knocked Manchester United out of the Europa League
earlier this month.
Having opened up a 10-point advantage over second-place Barcelona, Real Madrid manager Jose
Mourinho has begun organizing a victory parade through the Catalan capital to celebrate his club's
first La Liga title since 2008. Though the parade will not go off until the end of the season in
May, Mourinho has already started making unprecedented arrangements to hold a title celebration in
a rival city.
THFC1882 welcomes another guest post by Anthony Lombardi, this one may have
some foaming at the mouth:
WHY SPURS NEED ARSENAL TO BE BETTER
As Arsenal succumbed to a humiliating 4-0 Champions League thrashing by AC Milan at the San
Siro, a rather surprising thought came to me:
Should we really be celebrating the demise of Arsenal Football Club?
Manchester United: The Next Steps for Ferguson's Side - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

When I look at the league table I get a shudder down my spine.
Of course S*urs sitting higher than us in the league table contributes to that shudder massively,
but what really causes that horrible feeling is that we sit outside the Champions League
places.
Now don't get me wrong, the thought of that lot finishing above us is indeed truly horrific.
AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has no plans to retire soon. The veteran Italian defender who
is now 35 made the startling remarks during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on
Wednesday.
Despite his numerous injuries over the years that have seen him missing lengthy spells of
regular playing time, Nesta has no desire of quitting just yet.

On this week's predictions we feature the big Milan derby between AC and Inter as well as games
involving Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Internazionale Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester United,
Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal. So many great clubs in the heart of Europe but not one has yet
made a major transfer purchase in this January transfer window. To some degree or another, it could
be argued, that each and every one of those aforementioned clubs need at least one single player,
if not more in a few different positions.
What a time to be a Tottenham Hotspur fan! Sitting third in the English Premier League and very
close to being able to topple the current league leaders should they win this weekend at the Ethiad
Stadium in Manchester, the chances are that some of the more hardened and cynical Spurs fans may
well be thinking that something dodgy is going on!
Sing along now: "There's only one Arsenal."
Or not.
Fans of the Gunners familiar with only the Premier League, or the top four leagues in England,
might know a few teams from other countries. Mostly, this has been due to the Champions League
being televised so widely. Crazed football fans may watch more games, including from the top
European leagues in Spain, Italy, Germany and France but, for the most part, naming three teams in
Denmark might prove to be a challenge.
Some good news for Madrid fans as arch rivals Barcelona slumped to a 3-2 loss Osasuna yesterday
forcing Barca coach Pep Guardiola to admit that his side is now at the mercy of Madrid and only a
slip up from the capital club would give his team a lifeline.
Madrid could go 10 points clear at the top of the table should they win at home to Levante today
an opportunity i am sure Mourinho would not want to miss.
Aside from troubles against Spanish nemesis Barcelona, Real Madrid is arguably in the greatest
form of any club around the world. Jose Mourinho's men have not dropped points against a
non-Barcelona team since Sept. 21, marking a span of 27 straight wins over non-Barcelona
opposition.
I read a rumour on this the other day and saw David Luiz's comments and wasn't surprised to be
honest. The news that Pep Guardiola is eyeing up a summer move for our Brazilian is something you
could see coming really.
There is an argument that Luiz is one of our most creative players in the side.
Sure Ronaldo didn't score anywhere near 5 goals last night, however, his double took his all
time tally for Real to 127 goals in 128 games. Very impressive if you ask me.
Los Blancos easily made it to the last eight thanks to a 4-1 win inspired by an improving Kaka.
The capital based club joins Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Milan,Marseille and APOEL
in the quarters finals that are expected to pair very interesting fixtures.
Defending champion Barcelona will take on Italian power AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League
quarterfinals, the toughest match-up in the quarterfinal draw, which took place on Friday.
While Barca earned the toughest draw, Real Madrid was given the easiest quarterfinal draw,
taking on Cyprus-based APOEL Nicosia.
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona cruised to victories while Getafe beat Valencia in the Spanish
Primera Division (La Liga) on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Results
Mallorca 0-2 FC Barcelona
Real Madrid 5-1 Real Sociedad
Getafe 3-1 Valencia
Ronaldo and Messi keep scoring
The title race is still going but the race for the league's top scorer could prove more
interesting.
Real Betis Balompié play their home games at the over 50,000 capacity Estadio Benito VillamarÃn.
The stadium has gradually been developed since 1929.
From 2000-2010 the stadium was called Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera after the President of the
football club at the time. However, after a popular vote, the ground reverted to its previous name.
Real Madrid won their match pretty clearly in the champions league against APEOL with an aggregate
score of 8-2. Ronaldo scored two goals and one of them was an absolute screamer of a goal from a
free kick and man what a great free kick it was. Kaka also scored a stunner of a goal. He also came
close to scoring another stunning goal just minutes later but was denied by the post.
Peter Vermes likened his team's high-pressure defensive strategy in the attacking third to a style
played by a certain powerhouse Spanish side.
Steve Brisendine of MLSsoccer.com wrote of how Vermes' team's ability to win second balls has aided
in their ability to defend and have success this season.

El Clasico Stats: Messi v Ronaldo, Valdes v Casillas and Mesut Ozil - originally posted on

Ahead of Barcelona v Real Madrid this Saturday, we look at key stats and performers that will
feature in El Clasico. The analysis looks at Messi v Ronaldo, Valdés v Casillas and Mesut
Özil.
Barcelona. Real Madrid. Messi. Ronaldo. Guardiola. Mourinho.
The two storied rivals are set for their next historic clash Saturday, with Madrid able to
effectively slam the door on Barcelona's league title hopes with a win at Camp Nou. Barcelona,
however, can sneak within a point of the league leaders with a home victory.
A second half Cristiano Ronaldo goal was the difference as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in
another edition of the El Clasico.
The match started out with Real Madrid getting the better chances and able to take an early
lead. The goal was scored by Sami Khedira in the 17th minute as he pounced on a rebound in front of
goal before Carlos Puyol could clear it.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted the chance to manage a footballing "dynasty" like Liverpool was
something that he could not turn down.
Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post ahead of his introductory press conference today
Rodgers had this to say about taking over at Liverpool:
"For me, the only way I was going to leave Swansea was for a big club, and I mean a big
club.
Robin van Persie has agreed with Arsenal to keep his own counsel over his future. There has been
lots of speculation as to whether or not he will stay at the Emirates and if not, where he would be
going. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus have all been
heavily linked with [.
