FC Barcelona would be hoping to produce another sensational performance against Espanyol tonight at
the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic. FC Barcelona's last visit to Espanyol resulted in a very
controversial win for Barca. That was the night when the infamous Boix Nois once again came into
the fore front.
FC Barcelona would be looking to start the new year in the same way in which they have ended the
last year. With a huge ten point lead and a bigger fight between teams for the second spot, there
is only one team which can prevent Barca from the Championship - i.e FC Barcelona itself. There is
a high chance that players would become a bit complacent and would not focus on the pitch; but then
with Guardiola in charge the chances of that happening now is very rare.
FC Barcelona's quest for Copa Del Rey restarts today with a tough away game against Athletico
Madrid. This is one competition which Barca failed to master in recent years. Pep Guardiola would
want to correct that this time around. The last time when this two team met, Barca thrashed
Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou with a scoreline which read 6-1.
Xavi Hernandez would be playing his 300th game in the FC Barcelona jersey in today's match against
Osasuna. Osasuna lies in the bottom of table and hence this is the clash between the best and worst
side of this season. Osasuna has shown some good showing in last few games but it will be too much
for them to hold their fort against Barca.
FC Barcelona enter the 2nd leg of Copa Del Rey tie against Atletico Madrid being the firm
favourites to go through courtesy of a Messi inspired 1-3 victory in the first leg. But Guardiola
rightly insists that the tie is far from over even with a two goal lead and three away goals. Only
complacency could be the only factor which can bring down this FC Barcelona side.
FC Barcelona would be looking to obtain an all-time record of fifty points from the first nineteen
games of a season with a win over Deportivo at Camp Nou. Tonight's match would effectively end the
first half of the season which has been rather stunning as far as a Barca fan is concerned.
Deportivo who are currently in the 7th position is looking to regain some lost glory.
Usually a visit by a small club may not generate too much interest at Nou Camp. Then Numancia is no
other minnow club; they are the only club to have beaten FC Barcelona this season in the league. FC
Barcelona's defeat at Numancia might have been forgotten by the footballing fraternity but not by
the fans.
FC Barcelona could be up for their most toughest test of this seaon when they take on Espanyol at
the Camp Nou tonight. Espanyol is fighting a relegation battle and should not worry FC Barcelona in
normal circumstances. Then a knock-out match is no normal circumstances. Till this day whenever FC
Barcelona went to play we had the assurance of having another match to correct the performance, if
something goes wrong.
