Ronaldinho apparently enjoys the night life, perhaps a bit too much.
You've probably heard about it by now since every soccer blogger in the world has posted it on
their blog (including me), but Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea. A bit shocking, but honestly, if his
heart wasn't in it anymore and that clearly seemed the case, he should leave.
The timing of his departure seems a bit odd for a couple of reasons.
Here's a list of all the transfers conducted during the 2007 summer in the Spanish Premera Liga: La
Liga Summer Transfers. Have a look, link to it from your blog, and make additions / corrections if
I've missed out on anything. Thanks for reading Please vote for Soccerlens!.
We knew this would boil over at some point. The old 'club-vs.-country' debate.
Who is it more important to play for: the club that pays your bills? Or the country that feeds your
passions?
Word comes out of Spain today that Barcelona are looking to keep currently injured Cameroonian
striker Samuel Eto'o from playing in next year's African Cup of Nations.
While Nike brought out a "Best Team You've Never heard of" in the lead up to the Women's World Cup,
in trying to espouse on the brilliance of the US National Womens' Soccer Team, some pub regulars in
Birmingham had the opposite ideas. Being footballers who are generally crap, and turning out for
their lowly Lynam [...]
I wasn't too bad on my predictions from yesterday. I forgot to factor in 'referee error', which is
probably why I got the Liverpool-Porto and AC Milan-Benfica results off. I'm not so sure that was a
penalty for Porto and if it was, then Liverpool deserved the same later in the match. With their
horrid play, the Reds had no business winning the fixture anyhow, but I should have known better
than not to consider they were playing in Portugal.
We'll have to wait until Sunday to watch Ronaldinho play against the US but you can watch this clip
of him right now.
Simply amazing.
Barcelona are favourites to win in a group that includes French champions Lyon, German champions
Stuttgart and Rangers. Lyon's aura has diminished in the past two seasons and I don't see them as a
sure bet for qualifying out of this group. Stuttgart could be a surprise package this season - and
as far as [...]
If you want to see the rest of the goals and a higher quality version of the first one click the

Messi's first

and just for good measure,
here is Zaragoza's Zapater with a thing of beauty
If I had to go with one as the best, I'd probably go with Zapater's over Messi's first.
Hailed by many as the Mexican savior, Giovani Dos Santos debuted for Barcelona earlier Sunday.
Dos Santos replaced Thierry Henry in the 62nd minute with Barcelona holding a 2-0 lead over
Atletico Bilbao. Dos Santos showed some flashes but he also showed that he's just a pup and still
has plenty of room for improvement.
Dos Santos nearly scored but he pushed an open 15-yarder wide of the goal.
In the same vein as CHI's most prolific poster Jeff, I have decided to adopt his 'daily sweeper'
approach towards the EPL. Then we can touch on every little detail that I've wanted to share but
not elaborate on... There is still a lot to take place before out-of-favor striker Andrei
Shevchenko even looks at coming to [...]
With Ronaldinho "injured", the Barcelona fans bowed last night before a new idol, the brilliant
Argentinian Lionel Messi. Yes, FC Barcelona's very own Messiah (El Mes(s)ías, as they call him
here in Barcelona), came to the rescue as Barcelona defeated Sevilla 2-1 at the Camp Nou in a game
which never quite lived up to [...]
Barcelona handed out a pummeling to struggling Levante as Henry finally opened his league account
for the Catalan club and Lio Messi continued to distance himself with his brilliance from absent
Ronaldinho, whilst looking more and more like the REAL next Maradona. The opening minutes of the
match were slightly nervous and there were minor indications [.
Today's 3-0 Champions League wins for Barcelona and Arsenal over their top group rivals, Lyon and
Sevilla, respectively, demonstrate the collective power of these two teams. In fact, it's not a
stretch to say that these two could be the last two standings next May when the championship game
is contested in Moscow.
What you might not be expecting me to say is that I think Arsenal has a better chance of winning,
and will win, the Champions League, than their Spanish rivals.
A superb 0-5 win at Villarreal has left Real Madrid out on their own at the top of the Spanish
league. The current champions have started their defence well, being the only team in the league to
win both games so far. The first half was fairly even but after 38 minutes Wesley Sneijder sent
[...]
The debate continues. Which is more important? Playing for your club or playing for your country?
As you know, with the 2008 African Cup of Nations due to begin in January, many Africans playing in
Europe will have to leave their squads mid-season to represent their country.
We've covered this often in the past. Today, two reports of big clubs making their feelings known
over this issue.
Group standings. Group A FC Porto 1, Liverpool 1 Jermaine Pennant was sent off with 30 minutes
to go, but Liverpool survived finding the equalizer well before Pennant's ejection and hanging on
from there. Lucho Gonzalez converted an 8th minute penalty to put Porto up early. Marseille 2,
Besiktas 0 Having trouble finding domestic success again, but Les Bleus found a way past [.
MADRID (AFP) - Ronaldinho's teammates at Barcelona have rushed to defend the Brazilian striker
after he was jeered by fans earlier this week and accused once again by the Spanish press of being
under form.
The 27-year-old ace was whistled by a section of the Nou Camp as he was substituted during the
second half the 3-0 Champions League home win against Lyon because of what they felt was a
lacklustre performace.
Although in football the most important objective is to win and get the three points (or advance in
knockout competitions), more credence is given to those that do it in style. Ask nearly any
football fan if they remember these famous teams and they will- the Magicial Magyars (Hungary) in
the 1950s, the dynamic Brazilian [...]

Happy Monday to everyone. After a crazy weekend of moving and such, I'm back up and blogging.
Here are the results for this weekend's La Liga action. The Sevilla-Osasuna game was postponed
due to Sevilla's Champions League tie with AEK Athens on Tuesday. The game will be made up mid
week sometime this season. Villareal 0 - [...]
Nic at the Barcelona Blog writes: After two league games and an annoying break for international
games, Barçelona now face the big test of seven games in three weeks after which we should have a
much clearer idea of how things are going to be this season. The first game is this Sunday at 9pm

If you want to watch Barcelona in full flow, this is your chance. Soccerlens (in partnership with
TicketsFC.com) is running a contest to award two free tickets to the Barcelona v Real Zaragoza game
on 26th Sep 2007 at Camp Nou. There are only 2 days left (final date for submission is 16th Sept,

Real Madrid made it three wins out of three with a 3-1 win at home to newly promoted Almeria.
Javier Saviola opened the scoring with his first goal for Madrid since signing from rivals
Barcelona. Wesley Sneijder scored his fourth of the season with another superb free kick to make it
two-nil after 68 minutes. [...]
After Sunday's stale draw away at the Reyno de Navarra, the sharks seem to be circling around the
career of Frank Rijkaard, whose chances of survival as head coach at the Camp Nou rest, according
to the Spanish press, on the performance of the team in the next three games. If Rijkaard were to
depart, [...]
- BBDO announced that Real Madrid has the top brand value at $1.53 billion dollars. Barcelona
finished second with Manchester United third. Surprisingly Chelsea was fourth at $828 million. For
a club that has only recently risen to the top of English football, it's marketers are certainly
working overtime. Other than the obvious benefactors of success, diversity in the squad and
offseason touring seem to be two other major contributions.
Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Lionel Messi had his third straight strong performance for
Barcelona - following up a three goals in two games performance last week - scoring two goals while
contributing numerous other spectacular plays in a 4-1 victory over Real Zaragoza in La Liga action
Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Argentinean took over for the supposedly injured Ronaldinho as the team's top
offensive player while Andres Iniesta and Rafael Marquez also added goals for the home side.
The war of the television companies continues in Spain. For the first time since TV began showing
football there was no game transmitted free on Spanish TV after Real Madrid president Ramon
Calderon decided to support Sogecable and not allow the transmission of yesterday's game with Betis
on the "La Sexta" channel. Calderon was also in [...]
Nig writes at the Barcelona blog. Despite only being two games into the Spanish league season there
are quite a few conclusions that can already be made. While last season may have had a thrilling
finale, it was not a vintage season for either Real Madrid or Barcelona. This summer has seen many
changes, Madrid even [...]
"Ronaldinho is no longer the future of Barcelona." When hearing this, one would say, "DUH!"
However, I would argue that Ronaldinho has a much larger hand in the future of the Catalan club
than most people think. Ronaldinho is still one of the top players in the world, but that isn't the
argument. His [...]
There's crazy, and then there's the absolute lunacy of Chealsea boss Jose Mourinho quitting the
Blues less than two months into the season, and in the midst of a Champions League campaign.
Leave it to Mourinho, the sports most insatiable attention whore, to steal the headlines on a day
his team isn't even playing. According to early reports, Mourinho added a touch of class to his
abandoning the team by informing Chelsea skipper John Terry via text message.
The 20-year-old Argentine slots home the goal after being set-up by his Spanish teammate in
Barça's 3-0 win over Lyon.
After a day of turbulent speculation, in which all of the panjandrums of modern football have come
out with their takes on the departure of Jose Mourinho, it is time to turn our attention to two
Spanish clubs whose future could very well be affected by the "Special One's" future movements.
This Saturday (22nd September) [...]
Football Club Barcelona took all three points in Saturday night's big game, beating a disappointing
Sevilla 2-1 at Camp Nou. Star of the game and scorer of both Barça goals Leo Messi continues his
rise to what ultimately should see him become the best player in the world (although having seen
Cesc Fabregas' display against [...]
I'll try to add the rest of them as I find them. Cheers.
Incroyable But de Messi !!! FC Barcelona- Zaragossa 1-0

The politics of fame and celebrity are pretty bizarre. You obviously don't need me to tell you
this, but bear with me. Take actors, musicians, circus performers, basically anyone that's
associated with celebrity. Many career paths take this course: 1. Unknown phase -- The struggling
artist, on his or her own, trying to catch a break. For a band it's grinding out shows in front of
Real Madrid maintained their unbeaten record and returned to the top of La Liga after a 2-0 win
over Real Betis but they made hard work of despatching the side from Seville on Thursday.
The reigning Spanish champions' captain Raul Gonzalez finally broke the deadlock from the penalty
spot after 66 minutes following a foul on him by Betis midfielder David Rivas.
