They may have lost to Osasuna over the weekend, but don't blame it on lady
luck, por favor! Here's a snapshot of Barcelona's 'girlfriends club' at the Nou Camp last
week during Barca's Copa del Rey semi-final fixture.
From left : Antonella Rocuzzo (Lionel Messi) Daniella Semaan (Cesc
Fabregas) and Julia Vigas (Thiago Alcantara) all cheered their men on
from the stands.

Welcome to your Weekly Football wrap! From the looks of it, the
Valencianos are all ready to celebrate their traditional Fallas festival
by burning these "ninots" (puppets) of Jose Mourinho and
Barca's assistant coach, Tito Vilanova at the celebration on March 19.
Lionel Messi scored all four goals in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Espanyol because, well, that's
just what he does. His fourth goal marked his 50th La Liga goal of the season and 72nd in all
competitions -- a new record, surpassing the 70 Archie Stark scored for Bethlehem Steel in
1924/25.
After putting away the penalty, Messi jogged over to outgoing manager Pep Guardiola to give him
a hug, which quickly became a team embrace.
2012-13.

Watch, mere mortals, and weep as the slightly more 'agricultural' 50% of Barcelona's central
defence pulls off not one, but two 360° roulette tricks in a row as he maraudes his way through
Valencia's midfield during last night's Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.

The following photo has just landed on Pies' doormat in an unmarked Manila envelope, and
professes to be the new Nike home kits for Arsenal (featuring the gruesome black collar
and cuffs that Arsenalinsider alluded to a few days back), Barcelona (replete with
Corel Draw 3-style colour gradient) and Manchester United (seven shades of ugly
Gingham tablecloth).
Barcelona came back from conceding a 9th minute goal to beat Valencia 5-1 on Sunday. Lionel
Messi scored four of those goals just because he can, but with Barca up 3-1 in the 77th what seemed
like a routine substitution of Thiago for Cesc Fabregas got a little frisky. Fabregas gave Pep
Guardiola a hug as he made his way to the bench, but after the two exchange a few calm words,
Guardiola shoved Cesc by the back of the neck.
A brilliant counter attacking goal at the very end of the first half is standing strong between
Barcelona and the Champions League final in Munich after Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory at Stamford
Bridge tonight. It was kind of a harsh and unlucky night with players wasting gilt edged chances,
hitting the post on a couple of occasion and on all other occasion the Chelsea defense standing
strong.
Despite strangely eager claims that he doesn't come through in the big matches, Cristiano
Ronaldo scored the decisive 73rd-minute goal in Real Madrid's vital 2-1 win over Barcelona. He has
now scored in four of Real Madrid's last five matches against Barca (plus Real Madrid's extra-time
winner against Barca in last season's Copa del Rey final) and his latest virtually seals the league
title by extending Real's lead over Barcelona to seven points with four matches left to play.

Just sayin'.
Now for MLS:
As far back as November, rumors swirled about David Beckham's next move. Under the surface of
the MLS blogsphere, a small media circus simmered near a boil regarding whether Becks would stay,
or move on to Paris.
I wrote in the blog just before Christmas that I was broadly in favour of Thierry's return when it
was just a rumour. If all he does is score one goal, then it's been worth it for a number of
reasons.
Firstly, despite returning with Barca and NY, Thierry never really got the send off he deserved.

It's been 7 days since the beginning of the Dragon Year – and here we are 7 points ahead of Barca
in the league table. Our 3-1 over Zaragoza and Barca's 0-0 (their first scoreless game in 15
matches) made sure of that. In a league where the margins of error between a league title or a
bridesmaid finish is a hairline, 7 points is gold – it gives us that all-important precious
margin for error: to account for that somewhat inevitable match that will see us drop points
against a Levante, Sporting or.
Full credit to Osasuna who played like they had nothing to fear against their vaunted
opposition. Pep Guardiola resting Xavi, Iniesta, and Fabregas on the bench for the Bayer Leverkusen
CL first leg sent in Thiago Alcantara, Pedro, and Sergi Roberto. The latter breaking into the first
squad, all of four games old, completed the rejiggered midfield.

Welcome to another late edition of La Liga Lunes! Many of the Spanish
League matches took place earlier in the weekend (with Real Madrid's 4-0 defeat of Racing,
Bilbao's 3-0 mauling of Malaga and Barca's 5-1 merciless
demolition of Valencia last night- no comments), so in place of the
post-match updates, here's something on football's own Jolie/Pitt couple.
Many times I've consideredwriting a piece on this and then discarded the idea, deciding it better
not toget into something so controversial. But now it's gone beyond the point where Ican take it. I
don't even have the time to be writing this but I am so infuriatedright now that I have to do this,
to vent everything.
Scoring five goals against Leverkusen in the Champions League... just another day in the office
for Lionel Messi! The question is, who's going mushroom picking with Xavi now?
(don't fret, there's no real answer to that question.)
"I am fortunate to have Messi in the team and all I can do is try and create the
conditions so that he plays his best football.
The former Arsenal midfielder is enjoying a renaissance at Barca where he now scores goals
regularly through headers, a hitherto unknown phenomenon.
He continues to blossom in the bastion of greatness aided by an unsurpassed system and a
perfectionist coach. But Arsenal is never too far from his mind.
Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move back to the Premier League this summer, but he has
thrown cold water on the hopes of Chelsea and Spurs fans by saying that he is going to sign a new
deal at Real Madrid.
Mourinho is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying:
"I am going to sign a new contract with Real Madrid," Mourinho said.
According to Marca, negotiations are ongoing between Barca and Pep Guardiola's agent Jose Maria
Orobitg that would keep him and Tito Vilanova on for next season. Barca is keen on re-signing their
most successful coach while Guardiola has talked about taking a sabbatical from the sport.
Barca cannot proceed with their future signings without knowing who their coach will be next
year.
Lionel Messi made more history on Tuesday, breaking Barcelona's team record for career goals,
with his hat-trick against Granada helping him surpass Cesar Rodriguez on Barca's all-time
list.
Messi's club goal total is now up to 234, an astronomical number for a player who is just 24
years old.
There's always a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when a rude match official flashes you
a Red Card just when your team needs you the most. It's so bad that you could cry,
because how could they?
That's exactly what happened to Sergio Ramos last night during Real's 1-1 draw
with Villarreal at El Madrigal.

Though Jose Mourinho claimed he would not watch the second leg of Barcelona and Milan's
Champions League quarterfinal, the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic invoked his name after the referee
gave Barca two decisive penalties must have called Mourinho's attention to the situation.
So, Jose's official spokesman Eladio Parames (who may or may not be one of Jose's pseudonyms)
went on Twitter after the match and shared a very Mourinhoish point of view about Barcelona in the
Champions League.

Ahead of their Champions League semi-final showdown against Chelsea tonight,
Barcelona's squad has been spending quality time in London, carrying their umbrellas and trying to
avoid Cesc Fabregas's former hang-out spots. There wasn't time to get on the
tour bus, but we're pretty sure Puyol would've ended up driving it had
the opportunity presented itself!
Barcelona have all the possessions. 75% of the play, hundreds of passes, gold
ingots embossed with Messi and his ilk. All that treasure waiting to be robbed.
It's a perfect plot for some good old London gangsters to exploit. Today, Chelsea burgled the
Catalans, stealing the goal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final in England's
capital.
Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits that it is too early to celebrate the club's 1-0 first-leg
triumph over reigning European champions Barcelona but the England international has taken some
time to reflect on his successful one-on-one tackle against Barca superstar Lionel Messi.
Messi, who was held to a seventh goalless fixture against the Blues on Wednesday evening,
created several chances for the Catalans to grab an away goal, only for the likes of Cesc Fabregas
and Sergio Busquets be wasteful.

Chelsea's epic performance against Barcelona last night is a result i am sure will be talked
about for weeks even years to come. The Blues finally broke their duck against a Barcelona side
that won more titles in their last 3 years than Chelsea have in the last decade.
The man of the moment however, was their £50 million signing Fernando Torres.
